  7. Every PCIe GPU can run in any generation PCIe, it doesn't matter, what matter is how much the GPU can utilize the bandwidth. Every car can run on a 200mph highway, can it reach 200mph? most x16 gpu can work in x8, it is physically limited by the slots, what determines the bandwidth is the CPU or Chipset. It doesn't need to know which pcie version it is put on, as PCIe devices are version agnostic. there is a slight increase when using version 4.0, 1% at most.
  8. RTX3080 is a gen 3 cards, at pcie 4.0 x 8 it should be the same speed as gen 3.0x16 nothing to worry about pcie splitting.

  14. Get it used, you can get 50% off from the cpu and memory (or probably mobo). Ignore pcpartpicker price. If you use Unraid, all you need is just add another drive (as needed in the future), as long as it doesn't exceed the capacity of the parity drive. So with 3x10, or 2x20, 1 is for parity (doing the redundancy, must be the highest capacity) other for the storage, as many storage drive you want (limited by your port and unraid license). What's unique with Unraid nas, is you can mix match any drive (capacity / speed) you have, doesn't have to be the identical, very user friendly. If drive failed, only need to be replaced with similar capacity or higher.

If you want to maximize your money (and storage) my suggestion is : - Intel 10100 cheaper used, or i5 9400 even cheaper, use the included fan. not F, you'll need the onboard gpu for installation and plex. - cheapest mobo that you can find (with 4 sata port). - 8 gb ram, is enough. - 1x 256gb ssd nvme / sata no problemo. for cache - 3x10TB hdd, total space 20TB, if you have ANY leftover HDD you can add it to the mix, as long as nothing is over 10TB. - 8GB thumbdrive - 400w PSU, Any 80+ will do. - Unraid basic edition.

  20. They do work, there are some established brand like Huananzhi and machinist. These boards are very popular in Russia, they have a dedicated community that reviews these boards. Thing is a used ryzen chips are dirtcheap, you can build similar performing pc with newer hardware for a little bit more money.
  21. Tyan is a legit server grade motherboard maker. Not some chinese frankenboard. X79/99 boards you found on aliexpress is using random leftover chipsets. So you can endup with different chipset on the same motherboard layout (they probably share the design between manufacturer).

  23. Many AM5 (if not all) boards support XMP out of the box, i suggest getting that if you're planning on changing to intel in the future. The difference is probably miniscule, EXPO is just Amd way for the memory manufacturer to avoid paying Intel just to copy their timings.
