An earlier job in my career was datacenter network design and in particular fibre deployments between data halls. We made extensive use of the optical multiplexers you mentioned towards the end of the video. The brand we used was SmartOptics. They have cheap passive CWDM (coarse) and more pricey DWDM (dense) multiplexers. The solutions were shockingly cheap compared to running more dark fiber - typically 10x cheaper - despite their transceivers costing more. An 8-channel will cost less than the switch you connect into. It might be a topic for a followup video but I'm not sure how many views. They're not very interesting boxes because they don't have any flashing lights. So despite being almost magical in how they work, probably not the kind of thing you can show in a youtube video.

BiDi is far more common today despite the transceivers costing more. In the high-density compute racks we use multi-core MTP fibres and high-density LC frames but its still never enough. Running duplex cabling would make the rack overflow with fibre. Cable management is the single greatest problem I hear from the datacenter ops these days. BiDi halves the cabling and makes everything fit. Nobody cares about the $50 transceiver cost. Saving even 15 mins of an ops time would cover the difference in cost.

You don't need the attenuators unless you go outside spec. This isn't relevant to cheap BiDi transceivers which are fixed power but with the more expensive WDM units there's a built-in optical amplifier which will increase/decrease the Tx power appropriately. Putting an attenuator in path might require the Tx to transmit brighter making it work harder and possibly shortening its life. Only use an attenuator if the minimum Tx exceeds the maximum Rx at the other end. Very rare unless you're dealing with high-distance (>10km) optics.

Also don't clean your fibres in water. Water is the natural enemy of fibre optic. It's the second worst thing you can do to fibre; the worst is bending it too far and cracking the glass. The fiber optic is sheathed and there's grease inside the sheath to prevent water ingress. But the connectors are the weak spot and should never get wet. If water does get into the sheath you need to cut off the connector and reterminate.

You were also far too delicate with the connectors. Even APC you can treat as rough as guts and they're usually fine. They're not indestructible but they're not nearly as fragile as people think. Invest in a $10 one-click cleaning pen and you're golden. The signal quality of fiber optic can be affected by a single speck of dust.

6:03 why is he laughing lol because he doesnt pay for it ? 😛 I mean there is no reason I can think of that ltt will saturate a 1 to 5 gbps connection (judging from the price $120 is a price point where quite a few ISPs in USA offer those speeds so I guess the same goes for canada too. ) for private internet like what? will ltt store throttle? youtube does all the heavy work for the video distribution they only have to upload a few videos per day, then there's what that eats up internet? The forum? lol

I mean sure a leased line is better like sure there cs support, guarantees of speed and more favorable connection ratio or even 0 but still for a use case such as ltt I do not see why it is laughable to not just use a $120 1gbps line really (and yeas even if that's nominal during most of the day) especially if we are talking about 5gbps.
You could also have like an extra 50 bucks 5G LTE as a back up and be golden.

Also your benches more often than not either miss something or are lower in general compared to others but only when we are talking AMD if we are talking nvidia or intel somehow the benches are either the same or higher than others lol and everything is on spot, you get pro Overclockers to help you OC them and generally the production is ideal.. with AMD you even goofed in a recent video using the non 3d cached ccd for games claiming that it is better (as you mentioned in that video) which is obviously not the case,

I am looking this entirely wrong because you were introduced to this crazy and I just want things to become normal again?

I am looking at this wrong because I cant excuse a consumer paying a month's net salary (and in many places of the world multiple months  of his salary) for a single PC component...

Or in other words for a component of a BASIC COMMODITY.... how would it look like to you if you had to spend 1 month's salary to change a component in your fridge or AC or TV ?

Just read this part of what I wrote again and let it sink in

And tell me what is wrong with THAT, while also keeping in the back of your head that things USED TO BE EXACTLY like this.. (and please dont just try to counter argue for the sake of counterarguing, try to understand what the message is instead, I mean yes e.g on 2007 there were no 12TB HDDs so dont tell me that.. but there were equally "almost top capacity models" HDDs of the time that provided almost limitless space for the software requirements and video requirements of an average person of the time that used to cost as much as that! that's the message)

Also keep in mind that as PCs go more and more popular (so more people have PCs now compared to e,g 2004 or to  2012) and as technology and manufacturing techniques get refined and advance and become more efficient and also because of economies of scale things shouldnt just be as good as in the past BUT BETTER in other words prices should become LOWER not stay the same compared to a few years back!!!

But apparently they become considerably worse for some reason "I wonder what that could be" ...

No you are just trying to find "what else is crazy in the world so I can defent this argument"

    1) PCs are not a hobby they are a basic commodity nowadays, you cant have a household without needing/having to use some sort of a computer unless you REALLY try to just to protest or whatnot. You also most likely need a computer at work or when studying/researching.

    2) yes mountain bikes (and bicycles in general) as well as audiophile equipment have been deranged too and PCs following their path today...  a mountain bike part may be as expensive or more expensive than a car part or a motorbike part which are much more expensive to produce durable and sophisticated parts  compared to a bicycle which is simple aluminium alloys and some strings and oil and some small pieces of rubber and what not.. .

Also please do not start a post with innuendos I may have discussed prices in other topics but it doesnt mean that I have been proven  wrong or something (being wrong and just have people not agreeing with me is a totally different thing there are also people that agree with me and that is also a different thing from being right because those two can coincide doesnt mean that they are the same necessarily)

I could have started with "As I did before I will correct you once more again" but that wouldnt be a good premise for a dialogue would it?  instead I use arguments I find them better than ad hominem innuendos.

papajo reacted to SorryBella in Where to find RGB cherry mx switches in europe ?
The housings being clear does matter in maximum RGB coverage, but in general, a lot of the light can easily come through purely from the keyholes on the top and bottom housing. Example of what im talking about can be observed on the top-bottom housing of the JWK Ultimate Black. Notice the emptied notch at the bottom of this picture.

If you just want to go all out on RGB but without completely making the typing experience feel like crap, i highly recommend you to get either Akko Crystal or Everglide Aqua King V3. But thats just few of clear switches im pointing out in specific, any Polycarbonate transparent housing switches can radiate a hell of a lot of RGB, just mind the color shifts on the housing that are tinted like in Ajazz x Huano Diced Fruit lineup for example.
Cherry usually sits at the middle of the pack for per-switch costs, but to me the bang for the bucks have always been in the 70 cents or lower per switch. So shop around those range if youre looking for a switch upgrades or entry to the hobby.

Never do that if you are asking help on a forum for a troubleshooting thing just go directly to what works what doesnt the specs and what you have tried(a meta would be to not even mention what you have tried so that you keep a shorter OP in that way, and just respond to people who ask you to do something you tried with "I tried that and it didnt work").

Most people would see a wall of text with irrelevant (to the issue) stuff and get bored and dont even reach to the point where you explain the actual issue so you get no help.

So keep it simple, don't type unnecessary words and use the enter key a lot more frequently.

These are my 2cents so that your next post will actually get some replies.

take the battery out (I know it has a button for that but if you would like to hear me out then do what I kindly request) take the PSU out of the mains outlet and push the boot button of the case (or short the boot pins on the mobo if its not on a case) for a few seconds to deplete any remaining current in caps and what not wait for 10 minutes put the batter back in connect the psu to the mains boot the PC just to hear the fans or what not and then before its posts or whatever hold the power button continuously until it manually shuts down.

Now do the same as you just said (puting the stick on the right port) and then hold the BIOS FLASHBACK button for a while if nothing happens try to just click it.

If these are 4K monitor screens and this guy uses both to play a game at the native resolution of each screen the graphics card is going to render 8K  (4K + 4K)

What you dont add up but keep "as is" is the refresh rate of the screens....

    It is easy to determine

The quest 1 has a resolution of 1400*1600 per eye so in total 2800*3200 that's a little bit higher than 4K

and on top of that you need the GPU to be able to render at least at 75Hz at that resolution (cuz that's about the refreshrate of quest 1)

So you need to see at game benchmarks and see which GPUs can play 4K at above ~85ish average FPS .

BUT VR games are a lot less demanding than AAA 3D games set on high/ultra which is usually what the benchmarks are going to be set at so I suggest to look for a 2kliksphilip video on youtube testing out 4K with weaker settings cause I am sure he is going to have such things cause he is beautifully weird like that.

Now me without being a VR player so without having tested out GPUs for that just as a gut feeling would say that with a nvidia 2070 or even  better an amd 6800 xt and above you should be fine, but there could be some weaker GPUs that still could run (again since the games on VR are less demanding than the AAA 3d games) just fine maybe a Vega 64 would be the bottom line if not that then a gtx 1080
