Microsoft had a good design that made sense in Windows 7. Windows 10 (from a power user/techie point of view is an absolute mess. Mixture of Win7/Win8 GUI. Oftentimes I don't even bother clicking through 15 freaking links/menus to get where I want. Just keep direct shortcuts to things like Programs and Features, Network Adapter Settings, Windows Update, etc. Or if I remember the .msc or .exe, just open a cmd and type it out. The whole "settings" thing is a cluster fscked  mess.

Anyway M$ has been moving more and more towards Windows for Toddlers look and feel since Win 8.
"move on, get modern" they say. It's basically the same sh*t under the hood, just has some new features and a lot of eye candy and perhaps ridiculous restrictions.

I hate Flat UI, especially when trying to move a window. No borders, so easy to miss a window grab. Difficult to rezise a window. Simple annoying things like that.

I want to punch the inventor of Flat UI in the face lol (not really, but I do feel very strongly against Flat UI). Bring back skewomorphs and UI focused on usability and productivity.

If you've used Windows since v 3.1, you can understand my gripe. If you were born with an iPad in your hand, I'm just a cranky old man. lol

I will use desktop until either I die or desktop dies, but I want desktop to behave like a desktop, not a phone/tablet.

Dont change an os without a good reason. If you care not for consistancy or reliability then you can change the os constantly

    I actually really like it.
Its hard to notice when you switch to it, but things are less tedious on it
The settings app has more features,  WSL was added to the optional features, the store (in the beta release, the offical release store is still w10) is soooo much better, teh stock terminal app being windows terminal is great (tabs of cmd, powershell, wsl, and customizability of all is amazing)
Also if your on the beta channel, you can use WSA, and the android apps run great, even on a shitty A10 9600p laptop.

Its a great os, itd be on my main pc if it wasnt for Valorant enforcing the TPM requirements

Like the other posts say, it's a beta so it'll be unstable. Considering you need MS Teams, you're probably using it for work or school, so I'd recommend not installing it.

    Hard no for me

W11 is still in beta and there might be some really bad glitches so id suggest just staying away from it

Unless you happen to have a second drive that you dont use, in that case just install w11 on the unused drive

Just get a Blue. The Red is a NAS drive, and you don't need that.

Just pick one or the other. They're both about the same these days. I have a large fleet of hard drives new and old, and no brands have been worse than others. I have several drives that are well past the 100K hour mark with no issues.

Yeah, you might be better off getting an iPad and saving for a better laptop that's not a 2 in 1. Most of the cheaper ones have terrible cooling, and the Envy in particular might give you problems with the hinge after a year or two particularly if you switch modes frequently. Plus, they're not really that portable so tablet mode is not so ergonomic. And hopefully, we'll get even more efficient Mobile Chips from AMD soon so you don't need to compromise on battery life.

If I were you, I'd switch to iPad. The reason is simple - easier to bring along, plus calibration. I use one for digital art, the thinner glass with paper-like protector works great. Fingers don't stick to the screen, plus stylus recognizes your moves better. I applied the last foil more than a year ago, and it still functions as on the first day. Of course, there are some bald spots from intense use, yet still, works better than any other device I tried for handwriting and/or drawing.

Firstly is your current laptop cutting it for doing the work you are doing? This is very important as well if it's not then yeah a upgrade is in order.

However the pavilion x360 isn't a good laptop as the envy is barely more and a lot better (both have the too thin feet issue that causes airflow issues so both need to have their feet slightly thickened to allow enough air to make it run 40c cooler).

Any reason you want to take notes on a laptop and not just on paper? Writing on a 2 in 1 windows emr screen not as good as normal pen and paper that has always been hard to achieve even on professional devices. An ipad with a paper skin screen protector is one of the devices that get the closest.

But again depends ENTIRELY on the situation with your current laptop.

An important thing to consider in the working field is thunderbolt support. That way you can connect to a supported dock and get power, ethernet, more displays, etc from one USB-C cord. Thunderbolt is only on Intel atm.

If you don't need gaming potential, essentially any laptop with 4 cores, and NVMe SSD, and 8-16 GB of ram will be enough. I would highly recommend though having thunderbolt as it is becoming more and more standard in the professional world.

EDIT: This laptop for example. Intel i7, 16 Gb, and NVMe storage for $900. Its as thin and light, has thunderbolt support, and you can actually do very light gaming on Iris Xe graphics. I am AMD fanboy, but Intel definitely has the upper hand in the professional world.

Samsons are great, Philips do have better fidelity but whether it sounds better or not in terms of frequency response is purely dependent on your tastes.
If possible I would try out the Sennheiser HD 5-- series. Also look at which is most comfortable and what you can afford. If you can listen to them in person, then do it and you decide if it's worth the extra money for you.

Hmm thanks for that info. I'm stuck with a 500 GB one for now and I might just try to mess around with distros for the fun of it but I switch between school and other stuff way too often for dual boot to make sense.

Up until recently I dual-booted on my laptop as well, very similar deal. I had a Zenbook for years and I upgraded it to a Sandisk 960GB SSD back when those were still just north of $200. Also, don't be afraid to split one into four or five partitions if need be - I had six on mine (MS data, C:, /, /home, Docs Pics and Games, and Music) and the same SSD is still going strong in my tower.

Yes AMD is undoubtedly the best value right now. You save money on the motherboard and get most of the performance for gaming and better performance in other workloads. You can either go 3600 and later upload to Zen 3 down the line without a new motherboard. Or you can wait for 5600 to come back in stock.

Also websites like versus.com only compare the specs directly and score the chip based on that. While these numbers can be compared to get an idea of the performance it's not direct apples to apples comparison in most cases. You're better sticking to extensive benchmarks and gaming tests.

Just create Windows boot media, install, and then skip the activation. It'll occasionally bother and otherwise mildly inconvenience you, but it never ends the trial

And I dual boot. Kubuntu is my primary OS but I have a Windows boot stuffed into a HDD partition since those two games don't work in Linux

Don't buy an OEM Windows license for that money. Either spend the extra $20-30 on a white market retail license, or get a $20-35 key through one of the grey market license key sites.

As others said, go AMD. There's really no reason to buy Intel right now - AMD offers at least as good performance, better efficiency, better temps, better long-term support, and all of it for less money. A $200 3600 on a $130 B550 should be plenty for your needs.

Get a 5600x or wait for intel 11th gen in march. Ditch the hard drive and get a 1tb m.2 ssd instead, the wd black sn750 is usually a good deal. Also dont pay 100 for windows, DM me if you want a link to a better deal

By upgrade path, he/she means that you can get a newer Ryzen CPU and it'll still be supported on the same motherboard. You might need to do a BIOS update but that's about it.

I honestly don't think you'd need the room, 1tb is enough for most who are just gaming, and loading larger games on a hdd is a terrible experience.
