  1. Fair enough, after all it is YOUR computer. I'm just at a point in my life where practicality is King.
  2. I really can't argue with that...... dang it....

  4. Well, to be honest, 6 years on a laptop is pretty decent. Don't know if you cleaned it out of dusty annually, but if you didn't, then 6 years is really good.
  5. I'm pretty sure the new Navi achitecture makes liberal use of the Zen Infinity Fabric methods.
  6. Well, it may be an internal motherboard speaker that is working and not your actually computer speakers. I would recommend if you want, just buying the part online and replacing your speakers yourself. Its really not as difficult as you might think, just lots of screws to manage. Edit: Heck, it might just be the audio chip inside and the speakers themselves are just fine, would cost less likely unless you have to buy it as a unit. If the audio section is on the MB itself, then probably not worth it, get a USB audio controller or buy a new laptop.
  7. Bitdefender also has all those included in its package ?
  8. I have Bitdefender, and I absolutely love it right now. Super low-key (non-bloat ware as requested) on your computer and has a ton of features without getting in your face and/or messing up your computer (I"M LOOKING AT YOU NORTEN). Would recommend, and so would most publications who review antivirus. The ONLY thing that gets me every once in awhile is that I have my personal folders protected, so when I start up a new game, I have to allow the game to access My Documents folder.
  9. Okay, Silverstone cases are SUPER overpriced in Canada, so nevermind on that.
  10. Why not a Silverstone Redline 06 instead for your case? not a pretty, but near the top for out of the box performer. Or a Coolermaster Masterbox 5 if you want to save a few bucks, its not as good as the R06, but its still a good case.
  11. Okay, to be honest for your PSU, the load wattage is 380W on the calculated build. but considering natural degredation of PSU's. You usually want a 10% ceiling for unexpected decrease of output/increased needs, so that would be 418W, at that point, you are basically getting a 450W.
  12. I just calculated it, and from the GT620 to the GTX1060 is a 95W difference, you will need a 450W or higher to power your system. Also, to be honest, function over form is my opinion for cases. Though I think RGB is a waste of money, so take what you will from that. Especially on your budget, spend your money on power, not frills.
  13. Owch! Though if that was the price to go to renewables I'd probably just eat the cost. Renewable energy is still pretty subsidized here in the states so the cost isn't too different. Thats smart! In Japan, a lot of homes have a heater in the main living area of a home only because that is where the family will meet and congregate, when they go to their rooms, they typically will huddle up in bed/futons and so it being a bit cooler is not a big deal. For myself, I live in an efficiency, so its ALL just one room ;-P. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn off the folding today because it was warm out today and it got to like 85 in my apartment.
  14. As a gaming rig, 9/10 for a balanced build. You could easily get away with using this computer for a few years with no problems. Also, I'm guessing you don't have a high refresh rate monitor anyway. I am unqualified to rate it as a video editing station.
  15. Well the GTX 1070 and the GTX 1070ti are two very different cards is all.
  16. Well the biggest problem is the size of the SSD you metioned. if your getting an SSD THAT small, there is no way you can actually do much of anything on it. By speeding up your boot time and other windows processes, it will free up your hard drive to focus on your video editing/gaming. From my own experience, loading times on an HDD that has nothing else to do isn't too bad.
  17. Really, it doesn't matter too much WHICH ssd you get, just don't go too cheap. If you get one without a controller on it though you will regret it. That being said, the Corsair force mp500 fasauceome is a decent one.
  18. I believe it is now legal to "jailbreak" a phone, so though I personally don't know how, there has to be a way to install stock android on your phone.
  19. I second 1kv on the ssd and hard drive option. If you haven't used an SSD as a boot drive before, it will change your life.
  20. I live in the overly big headed state of Texas, so electricity cost isn't too bad here. I pay somewhere between $0.13 to $0.14 per kWh. I've heard of someones costs going all the way up to the thirtys cents per kWh in different areas.... that would suck.
  21. Well, I'm totally not thinking I'm ACTUALLY saving money, but it gives me enough of an excuse to do Folding@home for the winter, which is a good cause. But the way you worded it does sound much more sciency =D
  22. So! I live in a small 420 sq foot apartment and since the temperature has started to decrease, instead of running my furnace, I decided to start folding@home. Not only has this allowed me to basically turn off my AC/heating, but it has kept me apartment nice and toasty! I got home from work the other day and it was 78 degrees F, had to crack the window! If you were reluctant to run Folding@home before, think of all the money you can save (or use alternatively on computers power cost) to heat your home! Please, if anyone else uses this to heat their apartment/home, share your story!
  23. Reflect is easy to use and free. I've used it quite a few times. You may have to go into drive management and extend the drive to the rest of the space though. Edit: Program is made by Macrium Software.
  24. Hello! I have an unraid server that I built relatively recently and I was wanting to know if anyone knows of a case/tower that has a whole bunch of external 3.5" bays built into it. I know there are options out there of buying a case with bunches of 5.25" bays and then buying seperate 5.25" to 3.5" bays, but even then I don't really know what the best options for that are. Any ideas? -Kiyometa P.S. I have 6 3.5" drives and 1 2.5" drive currently in it. This will probably increase in the future to probably 8 3.5" and 2 2.5" at some point.
