itsTrickAF reacted to RONOTHAN## in Carryover DDR4 or Upgrade to DDR5 (for i7-12700k)
If you were going to upgrade capacity at the same time, I'd say go DDR5, but since you have a decent kit already you might as well just transfer it over. DDR5 helps more on 13th gen than it does on 12th gen, so while it is a performance uplift it's not that big a performance uplift.

Video production rushed?
We just get a "After further testing, several components were replaced before we shipped the PC" text message rather than video explanation? Components replaced because failed testing or out of good will?
EDIT: Would have also been great to see how LTT packed the computer for shipment.

The specs for the CPU on the Intel specification page tell you.

itsTrickAF reacted to jj9987 in What do all these numbers mean?
Since no one really gave an in-depth explanation of numbers, I'll do it. Real-life differences are not really noticeable, unless you are using Ryzen platform, which can take advantage of higher memory speeds.
DDR3 - Double Data Rate, 3rd gen of Dynamic Random-Access Memory (DRAM).
1866 - frequency of memory it is working at.
PC3L - PC3 indicated that it is DDR3, L stands for Low-Power, meaning it can run at 1.35V as well in addition to DDR3 standard voltage of 1.5V.
14900 - module name, matches with memory frequency (DDR3-1866 = PC3-14900)
CAS Latency - memory latency, how many nanoseconds it takes to access to read or write to memory. CAS latency is calculated, kind of an average of latency for many different operations.
In general, the fastest memory has the highest frequency and lowest latency.

Your title instantly triggerd this in my head.

itsTrickAF reacted to Streetguru in What do all these numbers mean?
Just buy your laptop RAM off of ebay, should be way cheaper, RAM is basically indestructible anyways.
-
itsTrickAF reacted to Streetguru in What do all these numbers mean?
Are you just trying to double your RAM or something? Because faster RAM is unlikely to be worth it or make any major difference.
Those are just the speeds/latency, high speed with high latency is comparable to a lower speed with lower latency in terms of performance.
Really doesn't matter either way, buy whatever is cheaper unless the slightly faster stuff is the same price.

itsTrickAF reacted to yolosnail in New LTT Branding
So I was scrolling through Twitter before and noticed that the branding on the LTT Twitter account had been updated with a new logo and header.
I personally like it but judging by the replies people aren't a fan.

he will be using his GTX750ti for the rest of his near future.
Will it be difficult to buy same ram kit in future upgrades? (to avoid mixing rams at all cost?)

@Crunchy Dragon Okay cool, that puts my mind at ease.
@Moonzy Hmm, I didn't even think about dual-channel mode being a problem. Thank you for bringing it up, I'll look more into it.
Thanks guys!

it wont bring up any issues unless you're doing tasks that's memory bandwidth intensive... which is quite rare
(no, chrome isnt memory bandwidth intensive... i think...)

if it boots, it's probably fine
just that it might not run in dual-channel mode anymore due to difference in capacity between sticks
edit: not quite sure how dual channel reacts to 2 sets of different capacity ram
edit 2: actually, scratch that, i've tested it myself in the past and it doesnt run on dual channel with 2x8 and 2x4
-
itsTrickAF reacted to Crunchy Dragon in Mixing Ram of different Speeds, Sizes, and Timings?
I've never had problems mixing sizes of RAM.
Speed doesn't matter on modern systems, the board will default all memory to match the speed of the slowest DIMM. I believe it's the same for timings.

itsTrickAF reacted to Airdragonz in Life Span for AIO Liquid Coolers?
It really depends on the manufacturer's materials for the tubing. Better quality AIO's have less permeable tubing, and therefore less liquid escapes over long periods of time. There's also the pump. If you keep the pump constantly at max, like a fan, it will eventually die out. However, all modern AIOs that I have seen should definitely last at least 2-3 years.
