  1. I'm wondering if would be possible and viable (stable) to create a virtual machine that runs Windows Server 2019 (or 2022) on a Linux server. My goal is to avoid the higher licence cost of the Windows Server Standard Edition versus the Essentials Editon.I need the remote connection feature that is only available in the Standard Edition. My idea would be the user connect to a Linux and them use Windows on a Virtual Machine. Also how much hardware power I would need? Some context and clarification: This server is for my father small accounting firm with 9 employees. I'm asking this because he needs a new server. There isn't a lot of remote working been done in his company right now, but after the pandemic he would like to have this option. So I would prefer to avoid make he pay for a premium for a feature that will see little use. I live in a country where currency conversion rates, import taxes and the poor economic environment makes the price for a multiple windows licence is prohibitive. It seems that Microsoft import all its licences because even if you take currency conversion into account the price should be half of what is compared with the US. He needs Windows because the software used in his company doesn't run on Linux, but is the best on the market (so no switching). And he uses a server because people of different departments are needed to complete the accounting of every client. I'm no pro IT and we are willing to hire a pro, I just want to know what are my options before hire someone. I already talk to a small IT firm, but they seem more interested in getting me a Windows Server and selling me a monthly tech support plan. So any help would be appreciated.
  2. I'm not familiar with TWAIN Import but I will look into it. Thank you.
  3. This is HP LaserJet Pro MPF M127fn and I starting the scan from a PC.
  4. There is no time out, and I tried to reinstall the driver and now the scan program can't even find the scanner. But the printer is working fine.
  5. It is both but I need to scan a register book so flatbed is the only option.
  6. I use the programs that came with the printer/scanner(AIO) to scan documents. When I say there is a problem to add more page to the file I mean this: I select scan page and the page gets scanned then I get a option to save or to scan another page. I should be able to scan any number of pages I want but after the first one I get connections problems.
  7. Posted it on HP boards but got no anwser and I'm on bit of a hurry. Sometimes the coumputers on the network can't find the scanner and I have to reinstall the the driver, not at the sametime, from time to time one computer loses the ability to use the scanner but not the printer. But my problem right now is: it scan the first page but when I try to scan more pages it says that there is a error of connections. I tried rebooting the printer/scanner and the computers. not at the sametime, from time to time one computer loses the ability to use the scanner but not the printer. There is no problem printing, but scanning is always giving me problems. A few more informations: I running Windows 10 Pro and a i5 8400 on all the computers and they are connected to the network by wire throught a router(or a switch, I don't know I have both and a modem to handle my office local network and phones).
  8. The problem is that I am not familiar with server hardware, so I don't know what to pick, I would have to take the salesperson's word for performance and quality of their product. They have access some government platforms that require an ID check, those checks are done with encrypted file that is stored on the server and we need one for each client. We could install a copy on each computer, but I think it would be a bigger risk. Or we could switch to card based identification, but my father having been pushing away from it because the files are more convenient. Also, I'm from Brazil so we don't get every product those kinds of companies have to offer and they take time to be available to here. And that is before the Covid shortages and the devaluation of our currency (5,6:1). Finally, I saw this server on the DELL website, but I don't know if would fit his needs and the steep discount tells me is outdated (Am I wrong?). https://www.dell.com/pt-br/work/shop/servidores-armazenamento-rede/poweredge-t340/spd/poweredge-t340/pe_t340_13159_bcc_2?view=configurations All the product they have available right now have similar discounts.
  9. My father asked me to help him pick a new server for his company. It is a small accounting office with 8 employees. The current rig configuration is: an i7-7700k, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, 2 750GB hard drives and Windows Server 2012. The main reason for a server is that the professional accounting program that he bought requires to be run on a server. Besides accounting they edit documents with LibreOffice, browse the internet with Chrome and run a few other light applications. Outside accounting, most of the others activities are done on their workstations. The workstation setup: i5-8400,8GB of DDR4 RAM, 250GB SSD and Windows 10. I also need to use the server to backup the data from the workstations and then store all the data (server + workstations) elsewhere (external SSD, cloud storage service or both). Finally, I would like to have a USB-C port to transfer data to an external SSD that my father already own. Because I'm not familiar with server specific hardware and there will not be an upgrade for at least some 5 years, that is what I thought: Ryzen 9 5900x; 32 GB of DDR4 RAM; Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite ATX (for the USB-C header) (could go for a smaller form factor); Corsair 4000d Airflow (for the USB-C port, could go for something smaller); Noctua NH-D15S (could go for something cheaper, but no liquid); 1TB Samsung M.2 SSD (currently the server has 550GB of data store incluiding the OS, and each workstation about 40GB of data besides the OS); 500 watts gold certified power supply; Windows Server 2019. What you think? Am I on the right track? Should I go for a pre-built (like a DELL)?
  10. Is there such a thing as: 4k monitor sized between 30'' and 34'' with HDR and a refresh rate of 100Hz or more? For gaming?
  11. I am upgrading my father DELL laptop with a new RAM chip, from 4Gb to 8Gb. I want to double the current amount by adding a second chip equal to the first, but I can't find out the RAM frequency, to be more precise I have two conflinting values: Task manager and the prompt command "wmic memorychip get speed" give: 2400MHz but; Dell support system give: 2133MHz. My question is: Which value should I trust? edit:typo
  12. That was what I thought, unfortunately my father went for the cheap option. I am going to see if he wants to put more money on it. Thank you both. edit: spell check
  13. My father bought a Dell laptop for office work, but the thing is so weak that he prefers to use his 8 years old Sony Vaio laptop. The Dell constantly slows down and stops for a few seconds every time a second program or app starts. First thing I did was uninstall McAffe that came pre-install but I have not seen much difference, someone have any suggestion to give this computer a boost? Configuration: Dell Inspirion 5566 - i3 6006U 2,00GHz; 4GB of RAM; integraded graphics card, Windows 10 Home and 1TB Hard Drive.
  14. No I don't. Probably I will have to buy a new one. Thank you for the help anyway.
  15. Yes it is a actual card, my motherboard built in is dead for a long time, and I tried to blow the dust off.
  16. Take all those icons in the middle and you will have what I have. The problem I think is that my PC doesn't detect my network card, like it isn't plugged.
  17. When I press 'change adapter settings" I get nothing between the task bar at the bottom and the address* bar at the top of the screen. *: that is it's name?
  18. I get just a blank page on 'change adapter settings' part.
  19. Yes, forgot to mention that, the link lights turn on both ends.
  20. Hello A few day a go my PC came back from maintenance and now I can't connect it to the internet and already tried to: Switch cables; Reinstall my network card driver; Switch the cable door on my router; See if the card is disconnected; Reboot the router and the PC. I used a D-link DFE-520 TX and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits. My computer is the only one with this problem and the only one connect via ethernet cable to my house network. So any advice? Edit: The link lights are on on both ends. Edit2: Reboot the router and the PC
  21. Thank you guys, I going to look into this options.
