In my experience using NVB during interviews/calls/discord/streaming/etc…nobody cared or noticed. It’s practicality is on a “do I need it” basis and being limited to one brand doesn’t make it any better than other options available; for example (in my case) using OBS Virtual Camera with filters and Voicemeeter. I can do nearly the same thing with less resources and equivalent results on almost any machine without an RTX GPU. Maybe not the eye-contact feature, but it’s a little unnatural looking.

That said I recently picked up a Fifine USB condenser mic from my local pawn shop for $25 and now use Camo with my iPhone 12 as the camera source for any "live" events, making NVB obsolete altogether.

yeah...ok...you're system will do absolutely fine with that pad and its software lmfao. last comment had me about to change my remedy to throwing it back at your e-waste friend. definitely give it a fresh coat of paste, i'm not sure how long you've had it or if your friend had already had that taken care of but if heat is the issue definitely take care of that first. good ol' kryonaut would probably be overkill, but Best Buy has some very decent Corsair TM30 that is only a few bucks for a tube that would go well across half a dozen systems use if you want a quick pick-up. loved the stuff on my Lenovo Legion 5 with a toasty running Ryzen 5 4600H

It's very much a second-hand/second-rate experience in almost every aspect...the middle sibling trying to do all the things the big kids do but with the maturity and intelligence the youngest kid has. I thought this was gonna be a Bethesda game akin to Bulletstorm until I looked further into it and that description I gave pretty much suits this title. Clunky and slow melee combat, slower ADS than most base weapons in Call of Duty with the hit detection to match, poor and predictable scenarios, some of the cringiest dialog I've heard in a while with 0 environmental detail/occlusion (anything dialog related outside of phone calls sounds like I'm just listening to a podcast)...it’s all around a cheap feeling experience.

    Story:

Met a guy on Reddit needed some coaching through how to start using OBS, he offered me some "old" mining gear as payment for my help; an entire gaming PC (minus the case) for 2 hours on a Discord call isn't a bad days work. When he shipped the parts over the holidays, however, the CPU and motherboard arrived damaged. I reached out here on LTTF for help in diagnosing/testing what could be salvaged and a very kind user (shoutout to BOTH of you legends for making my entire YEAR considering what I had going on) lent a more than generous hand in replacing the 3300x and motherboard as a Christmas gift. First upgrade after successfully testing the system was a kit of dual-channel RAM (originally had only one stick) and a WD BLUE 500gb SSD.

After having the system running for about a month in an open-bench setup on the motherboard box, I decided the system needed some proper love and attention so I started the "Purple Haze" project (as I'm calling it now...Hazel, for short). I found what I thought was a beautiful case with 11 fans + controllers on Facebook marketplace for $100. Little did I realize how HUGE this case was, lmao! The poor B450 motherboard looked so tiny inside this thing, but the GPU looked like it could fill some of space in with a vertical mount, which the case supports. I was planning on replacing the optical fiber cable and the fans on the GPU anyway, so I ordered a 200mm PCIE 3.0 Riser cable from Amazon (also Thermaltake...see a pattern here?) along with the clean optical fiber and a new fan assembly. I then found the NH-D15 on FBMP for $40 and thought the stock fans threw off the aesthetic so I replaced them with extra fans and a controller I hadn't figured out what to do with yet. Some repairs, fan configuration and cable management later...she's my masterpiece.

I'm not much for RGB...but if you have it, might as well use it. It's a little janky but I found a way to make it work to my taste. I plan on replacing the regular boring Riing fans since they're only addressable by a single light at a time over a Play/Pause RGB system. I think I'll replace them with another Riing Premium kit and put these at the bottom of the case instead. The RGB on the GPU and Riing Premium fans is set to a "stormy" effect and occasionally the GPU goes full RGB-unicorn-vomit...because that's fun, I guess *shrug*. I do plan to water-cool in the future, as this is not the quietest or coolest system, but temperatures are in check and it isn't audible with headphones on.

Thoughts, comments, questions or concerns (other than the shady PSU that will also be getting an upgrade in the next week or so)? What do you think?

I managed to fix it by reseating one of the molex pins on the power connector. It may have had just enough contact to turn on the fans/lights but wouldn’t connect to the software.

Thank you though, I will definitely look into replacement adaptors. My front fans aren’t controllable by the software though (they’re connected to sys_fan)…would you happen to know what I would be looking for to link 2 controllers so I could control all of them at the same time?

    Case: Thermaltake View 51
Fans (push/pull): Thermaltake something or other…the controllers aren’t compatible with my motherboard, so the exhaust at the top is perpetually cycling RGB but whatever
    Motherboard: MSI B450M Pro M2-Max
    CPU: Ryzen 3 3300x
RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengence Black 3600Mhz (2x8gb dual channel)
GPU: Asus Strix RTX 2080ti Gaming OC 11GB (middle fan motor is dead, new assembly coming shortly…optical fiber RGB diffuser is opaque, also replacing soon)
PSU: GameMax RGB 600w (replacing shortly)
Monitor: HP 27m 1080p/60hz (custom resolution at 1440p/76hz)
    Keyboard: something from NPET…
    Mouse: Logitech G305 Wireless
Mousepad: some ONN RGB thing from Walmart I think

So yeah, purple because it looks the best…never got out of my ”dark” faze, I guess. This case is FAR bigger than I thought it was gonna be, it's obscene haha, but it was a good price on FB and came with more fans than I know what to do with (or can even control). Thermals overall aren't great but are managed by locking fps in games and lowered power limits (a good thing considering the PSU quality anyway.) It's a really long story how this system came to be, but I made some incredible friends in building this beast. When the final repairs/replacements are done, my dream still has a large upgrade path ahead of it...but for now, it'll do...it'll do.

thank you. as i said, on older platforms this was possible. a reputable PSU is also on the list.

basically it comes down to i got a free high-end graphics card, a good motherboard (presumably) and some RAM. with the most expensive stuff already here, the CPU and PSU shouldn't be more than about $200 together. that is IF everything else DOES work as expected

pop in an i7 3770 (no need to change motherboard) and 2x8gb 1600mhz RAM. then save up for a used GTX 1060 or RX 580 4gb. more than enough power for daily use, gaming and productivity. shouldnt cost more than $200usd total depending on your residence and product availability

i can do 1440p/60/High without much issue in most titles. but yea, performance on AMD hasnt gotten much better since probably when that November driver was out. though i can say that recently ive noticed slightly better overall performance and stability on my RX 580 with the recent driver update. nothing major, but at least 5%

If it gets the job done, I'll take it. I don't buy expensive shit because I can't afford it. But if there's an option that gets the main functions right at a dirty cheap price I'm good with that. Always had budget phones, always been on MVNOs, always had 4-10yo computer parts. Most up to date electronics I own are an RX460 GPU and a Nintendo Switch, not quality products at reasonable prices while still falling short of the bigger competitors. Works for me
