  1. I thought it was going to excel in games being that it's advertised as a gaming headset but it's worse than my apple earbuds in terms of sound quality and even how much of an advantage I have over opponents. Footsteps are fainter and can't be heard from as far and it feels like there's little to no bass in these things. Explosions and gunfire sound harsh and kind of empty. Even worse is the mic isn't working! The comfort and build quality aside from that is superb but I feel like I've made a mistake buying these because of the sound.
  2. My long time $30 apple earbuds went dead recently. I needed a mic anyways too so I opted to kill two birds with one stone and buy a gaming headset. I didn't want to spend more than a $100, and of all the budget gaming headsets I looked at, the HyperX Cloud Alpha was highly praised. Some people said it was even decent for music which was a plus since I wanted something I could listen to music on too (I listen to a lot of music). It showed up today and after listening to a few songs and playing a few games, I'm reeeally disappointed. It sounds empty and flat, like the speakers are far from my ears but they're not. Is it likely that's just because I've used earbuds for years? I'm not kidding the old apple earbuds sounded so much better. The difference is night and day. I'm not really sure what to do. Has anyone been in a similar experience making the switch?
  3. I switched out my HP monitor for my craptastic Sceptre TV and the stuttering and choppiness was still there. Even though the TV is pretty cheap, I'm fairly confident the issue I'm having is with my computer hardware/software. I tried a different HDMI cable with both the TV as well as my monitor and no apparent difference there either. Once I can afford a new mouse, I'll look at buying a higher-end one to rule out any problems with mouse input. I'm not so sure that's the problem anymore but I'll replace it when I can anyways. Forgot to add I overclocked the ram back to its rated 2666 speeds but haven't seen any improvement. The games I've been playing lately are CS:GO, Insurgency, Minecraft and Sea of Thieves. I was able to pinpoint some stuff in Minecraft that I thought was worth noting: -- Better fps with the Optifine mod and drastically reduced stuttering/choppiness. -- Very stuttery without Optifine -- Every 5-10 seconds, the game freezes for a split second and then catches back up to realtime. It's sort of subtle and noticeable at the same time. -- Lots of FPS fluctuation ranging from 300 FPS down to 30 FPS. So overall, Minecraft and Sea of Thieves usually run at a solid 60+ FPS but most of the time they FEEL like 30-40 FPS. And on the other hand CS:GO and Insurgency run buttery smooth with no stuttering at all. Whether or not that info is helpful or not, I do not know. I'm getting desperate though lol
  4. You should be good fine but maybe make it a little more even. You don't want too much or too little. Remember it'll spread out when the pressure from the heatsink is applied.
  5. Bump Please... anyone... My expensive new rig is effectively no better than my old craptastic laptop
  6. I built my first rig back in summer and I'm super proud of it. Anyways, I only play with friends I know personally for the most part. You can search for Discord communities or look on Reddit I think though. Good luck building!
  7. Wired mouse. HP 25f, 1920x1080, 60Hz (OC 75), 5ms response.
  8. If it's over a few years old and the usage is constantly at 100% for no reason, it might be about to die. My laptop drive was about 3 years when Windows slowed to a crawl and usage was constantly 100%. I just barely got all my stuff off it and onto a new drive.
  9. What a headache. We may be having the same problem but the solution could be totally different. Sorry dude.
  10. I'm no expert so I don't know but I will say that I'm having the same problem as you and all my components are fine. I run a solid 60+ fps on games and it feels like 30-40. It looks just like what your video shows.
  11. Nvidia is locking it. You can turn that off in 3D settings from the Nvidia control panel.
  12. I've noticed some games' fps counters show a high avg fps but a consistently very low minimum so that could be it? What software do you recommend for benchmarking? I have 4 x 4gb sticks running @ 2400Mhz. They're rated at 2666MHz though so I assume that means I can't take advantage of dual channel speeds? Or can I change that in the BIOS? I know it's not the ideal set up. I built the rig with 2 x 4gb sticks originally and scored an identical pair of the same ram for free so I threw them in. Both singleplayer and multiplayer.
  13. I built a new rig back in summer and despite being more than capable of handling the games I play, they all feel pretty off--they feel laggy even though I'm getting high frame rates. I've messed around with v-sync on/off, various monitor refresh rates + overclocking to 75Hz, tons of different Nvidia settings, using the lowest settings in games and updating my drivers. Nothing seems to help substantially though. I'm starting to question if it has something to do with the cheap mouse I've had for a few years. Could it be causing some sort of input choppiness that appears as lag? Some games don't feel as laggy though so I don't know. I'm really not sure how else to troubleshoot this. Specs: Ryzen 5 1400 GTX 1050 Ti 16gb RAM @ 2400MHz HP 25f 1080p 60Hz Redragon Centrophorus mouse
  14. I deconstructed the whole laptop last night and did a full clean on it. The fan was clogged with about a 1/4 of an inch of thick dust. Temps are on average 15-20 degrees cooler now at idle. I'll do some game testing later and update this post. Edit: Spent half an hour in CS:GO again and the average temp was around 140F over both cores and peeked at 170F. I'm not really sure what "package" refers to in HWMonitor. I'm assuming it's the average of the entire CPU? Anyways, so far no FPS dips and everything is running smoothly.
