Yeah, i think im gna pass, just not worth it at all.

Yes, with soft tubing they will be quite difficult and could cause problems further down the loop from kinks, restricted flow, etc if not done perfectly right. And of course hardline would be incredibly expensive just for VRM cooling. If your case fans blow enough air across the VRM heatsinks (from your fan config in the picture it looks like they do), you won't really need the liquid cooling.

I went with a 4x8 4000/CL18 because it was affordable and fast. I paid $199 for it (Crucial Ballistix Elite 4000)
From what I've read, it starts to matter the more CPU bound you get, and depending on title.
So if you're chasing ultra high fps at lower resolutions (competitive FPS), or playing MMOs, it might matter more.
That said, I think that it's still not a huge amount of benefit going with very fast RAM.
I would personally go with a 3600, 4000, or 4400 kit of dual channel, dual rank memory (or 4x single rank).

noobftw got a reaction from WhitetailAni in 5950x CPU Lanes
Ahh ok, I am just trying to find the best possible CPU for gaming that I can pair with some 4400MHz or similar RAM, to maximise FPS. I guess i can't do much better than the 5950x right?
-
noobftw reacted to WhitetailAni in 5950x CPU Lanes
Ryzen CPUs have 24 PCIe lanes.
16 - top PCIe slot
4 - top M.2 slot
4 - chipset
The chipset can then provide more PCIe lanes to devices. They'll be limited to 4 GB/s both ways minimum, but that's plenty fast for a 10 Gbps LAN card and extras.

Use an extension or individual wires.
You could repurpose usb 2.0 extension cable or usb 2.0 to usb 3.0 extension cable
Individual wire extensions : Amazon.com : dupont male to female
usb 2.0 extension cable : Amazon.com: Duttek 1M/3.3Ft 10 Pin Motherboard PCB Cable Male to Female Header Extender Extension Dupont Jumper Wires Cable (10Pin M/F): Computers & Accessories
(just cut the extra holes in connector if they're a problem).

How do you look at a piece of computer hardware and think, oh yeah, that doesn't need any bubblerap, Utter idiots.

Squeeze these together and push them through the hole.

noobftw reacted to manikyath in Heat-sync Removal
those cards usually dont use paste, but use a thermal pad of sorts,
also from experience: dont bother taking it apart. you'll make a huge mess, you may break one of the pushpins, and the benefit of repasting these is neglible at best.
my suggestion is to stick a 40mm fan to the heatsink, and wire it into a +5v line somewhere (or to a fan header set to whatever the lowest is your board will go)

This person is correct. Also, most people spell the finned mass of metal atop a heat source a "heat sink."

yes you should be just fine re-using the fluid, I would only recommend straining it first through a coffee filter just to catch any particles it may have collected.

Yes, they'll work with FreeNAS. Why would you want something that fancy as a NAS though?

Yes the ram is compatible with that board.
You can find it here on the compatibility list: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/X470-GAMING-PLUS#support-mem-13

noobftw reacted to WereCatf in Confused - Speed - 1 Gigabit
Your Internet-connection has nothing to do with LAN-speeds, unless you've somehow fucked your network up in a major way. On a gigabit-network, file-transfers within LAN should be >100MB/s.
-
noobftw reacted to Oshino Shinobu in Confused - Speed - 1 Gigabit
Over LAN, your inetnert speeds don't matter as the traffic isn't leaving your network.
If everything in your LAN is running at 1Gbps, the maximum theoretical transfer speed will be 125MB/s, but it never really works like that. When you account for performance overheads, you're more likely to around 110-120MB/s max. I personally max out at about 115MB/s most of the time.
Bear in mind those are max transfer speeds. If you're moving a load of small files from one HDD to another over the network, it will be slower. Also, other traffic on the network can slow the transfers down, if they're using bandiwdth up on the same links.
-
noobftw reacted to RadiatingLight in Confused - Speed - 1 Gigabit
if every link in the chain is 1Gbps, then you should be getting LAN speeds of nearly 1Gb
note that Gigabit =/= Gigabyte
1 Gigabit (Gb) = 0.125 Gigabyte (GB)
^ Divide by 8 to get from bit to byte
-
noobftw reacted to Oshino Shinobu in Confused - Speed - 1 Gigabit
Theoretically, up to 125MB/s
Realistically, up to 110-120MB/s
The "up to" is important as the type of files being transferred and the traffic on the network can affect transfer speeds as well.

noobftw reacted to GDRRiley in Confused - Speed - 1 Gigabit
no 1gb theatrical maximum is about 130. so geting in the 110-125 is normal.
