Covalent reacted to GeekaWhat in Decline in Content Quality & Exclusivity of Content
Unlike others I am going to mention this in what I feel is a fair manor.

Since the new office move I feel LMG content has declined in quality. I understand the lack of new product releases lately is ultimately gonna lead to a lack of GREAT videos, however yesterday I watched Linus put 8 GPUs into a 32 core beast server and today 'How to Install a GPU' like come on. I know this is a scrapyard wars week and this has led to videos that have to be faster to produce but I don't feel scrapyard wars, which will probably drag on too long at the end should lead to a week in which content is imo pretty sh*t. I feel aside from the xmas pc modding, fallout build guide, server videos, 7 gamers 1 CPU and the latest holy sh*t video it has all been quite disappointing. We haven't seen a build guide in the new office, like a full tutorial - I love those - especially the ULTIMATE ones!

I would however like to say the quality of editing has drastically increased, as has filming - not to say some sexy graphics overlays from Edzel really gave LTT videos a quirky look before and I feel LTT needs more of this.

To address the exclusive Nerd Sports, I'll be honest I was initially p*ssed. However seeing @LinusTech post on the forum about it I now fully understand why and have ti say I love the idea. Exclusivity and content behind a paywall is always gonna be controversial, but providing it doesn't take away from other content (for which it seems that way this week) I fully agree with the move, and whilst I am yet to make a decision may be the sole reason i renew vessel membership!

Linus my personal viewpoint/advice on this would be not to take on too much  I love some of the latest LTT videos but others have been awful imo. I understand this time of year lacks for product releases but aside the 'show style format' more reviews would be great - because that's what you do best. From new employees that you have mentioned it seems you are facilitating for all this new content you plan to make.

Tech quickie has also been superb lately.

Finally Brandon, Edzel, Taran and John are great on camera and seeing more of them would be great.

This is all subjective I know but these are my opinions and if you were to see this I hope I have put across an unbiased argument and would love to know what everyone on the forum thinks.

Ars slams SteamOS over issues with a single machine and a 4K monitor: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/01/hey-valve-whats-the-point-of-steam-os/

That was the original title, it has been updated to
We're off to a good start, right guys?
    Let's continue:
The Asus PQ321 4K model ... hmmm, let's see what the internet has to say about this monitor:

    Source: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/asus-pq321q-4k-monitor-review,3698-4.html

    Source: http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Displays/ASUS-PQ321Q-315-4K-Tiled-Monitor-Review/Setup-Process-AMD-and-NVIDIA-Dual-HDMI-Test
That's a hell of weird monitor to choose for a review, right?
So in summary, what we have here is a review of a weird monitor which doesn't work well with any hardware not running its unique drivers. I guess that justifies the "Valve needs to take a long, hard look at Steam OS." line perfectly.
I'm not saying SteamOS is great (Linus made that quite clear in his video on the topic), but this review is beyond stupid and Ars Technica should be ashamed of having such on article on their website.

Once again, as i said in my post, my opinion relates to my decision as a user to chose a specific device/environment. I am aware that most people dont use roms and that its beyond most people. I am merely stating that i believe that android is a superior platform (FOR MY OWN USE) because its an option that i dont have on iOS. And its an option that will exist for as long as someone wants to support the android open source project. While i know that most people dont know how to root/flash their phones the fact that someone can do it for you once (within reason) and you can get what you want. This is especially important on the Android platform where some mfg decide to stop providing anything more than security updates after 6mo-1yr and after 2 years stop all updates. The open source community tends to support systems far longer (assuming there are enough people who care). I prefer this to the system that iOS uses because you simply aren't given a choice, even in some cases where then phone cant handle the update (see the current class action suit against apple).

We just simply differ in beliefs on what a user should be able to do with their phone. I believe the choice should always be there, even if the majority of users decide not to use it.

It's an important distinction to make. Android is easier to fix for the people with the knowledge but those people are a drop in the ocean of Android users. Most Android users don't install custom ROMs. They use their phone the same way iOS users use their phone. They buy it and update it when the manufacture releases an update.

Us people who browse tech forums seem to become disconnected form reality if we don't constantly interact with non technically inclined people (not saying you but in general). I'm currently going to university and over winter went back home. It was quite a wake up to be with my family who have to work to manage the tv and sound system. Seeing friends again and realizing how challenging certain tasks are for them compared to me. When "we" talk about building computers a common analogy is comparing it to lego yet when ever it comes up that I've built computers everyone is blown away. The overwhelming majority of people would never ever think of doing anything like tinkering with their phones software outside of stuff built into what ever OS it came with. Even opening up a computer is scary for lots of them.

Yes im aware, but there are some issues that have been documented that are relatively easy to fix. Or you can read the rest of my comments where i said that most roms get updated far faster than any updates from carriers, and sometimes faster than google. So getting updates from something like CM or Krombi or something may fix your issues far faster than anything else.

Yes you can fix your own issues if you know what youre doing, but even if you arent a dev you can get fixes faster by letting someone who is good enough fix it for you. Both of these options arent allowed on iOS, and thats why i have a personal issue with the device/environment.

Thats the thing, if youre working on a custom rom (or just stock android) you CAN get the source code, and you CAN recompile the software for your phone in particular if you want to.

The only thing you cant get access to are things are the phone manufacturer specific stuff (sense, touchwiz etc) which i kinda hate to begin with so thats not a huge deal

If you complain about this you really fail to see how this is a good thing is most cases, people are fucked up and might not want their spouse to have access to certain devices because of reasons like bank accounts and the like. Some spouses are fucked up.

it wasn't structural failure. It was caused by a latching mechanism becoming seized because of frozen condensation. In short, there wasn't anything holding the leg from moving back up. Wasn't a buckling failure.
