OrionFOTL got a reaction from derf2ooo in COOLER MASTER MWE 550, SEASONIC S12Ii-520 or another PSU?
MWE 550W is made by HEC, and it uses a double forward, group regulated topology - the same outdated principle as the Seasonic S12II, which doesn't respond well to load from modern PCs. The MWE line is tricky, because only the 600W and 650W models use DC-DC converters, while 550W and everything below uses group regulation.

You can't choose computer components based on brand: MSI GTX1080 GaminX is a fast card, but that doesn't mean MSI GT1030 is fast too. Cooler Master MasterWatt Maker MIJ 1200 is an extremely well-built power supply, but Cooler Master MWE 550W uses the cheapest design possible.

    Between Corsair CX450M and Corsair TX550M there's also Corsair CX550: https://www.chip7.pt/fontes-alimentacao/21087-corsair-fonte-cx550-550-watt-80-bronce-cp-9020121-eu-CP-9020121-E.html
It uses an upgraded design than CX450M (half bridge LLC resonant with DC-DC converters), but it doesn't have modular cables. The warranty for the CXes is 5 years, while for TX it's 7 years and it will last much longer.

OrionFOTL reacted to Spotty in Aresgame caught lying about 80+ rating by Gamers Nexus
Gamers Nexus latest video tested the Aresgame AGS850 power supply, one of the highest rated power supplies listed on Amazon, and found that the products claims of 80+ Gold certification were false. The unit tested by Gamers Nexus unit only managed to meet 80+ Standard certification, which is the lowest tier.

Aresgame have responded and admitted that the samples they tested internally also did not meet the 80+ Gold standard. They've removed the 80+ Gold claim from their website and the Amazon product page, however they are still selling through existing stock which falsely bears the 80+ Gold logo on the box and power supply.

The power supply was originally certified as 80+ Gold by Clear Result (the company that provides 80+ ratings) and the report is displayed on their website (attached as a pdf below), however supposedly there were changes made to the power supply due to COVID-19 supply constraints that have resulted in the change and lower efficiency, though in my opinion this is likely just an excuse for bait-and-switching to cheaper components after receiving its initial 80+ Gold rating.

The Amazon page has been updated to state "80+ Certified" without any rank listed, however since the PSU has undergone changes and no longer meets its original 80+ Gold rating this should be removed completely as it the PSU has undergone changes and is not the same as what received that certification. Aresgame should resubmit it to be tested and then only claim 80+ Certification once it has received a new certification.

Gamers Nexus only tested the 850W "AGS" model, however it is likely the same story with other AGS models and the 80+ ratings from other Aresgame power supplies should also be questioned.

After Gamers Nexus testing of the Gigabyte PGM 80+ Gold power supplies this is another good example of why "It's 80+ Gold so it must be good" is not a good way to choose a power supply.

OrionFOTL reacted to Spotty in PSU efficiency
The report you linked to is for the Corsair CX550. Different power supply than the CX550M.
This is the report for the CX550M. http://members.cybenetics.report:5050/d/cybenetics_xR6.pdf

It's normal for PSUs to have low efficiency at very low loads.
With your CPU, GPU, LEDs, drives, fans, etc... Let's say for simplicity sake you're idling at around 40W for the total system. With your CX550M you'd be drawing around 52W from the wall, which is approximately 75% efficient (as shown in the low load tests in the above cybenetics report). 75% efficiency is probably pretty normal for an 80+ Bronze rated PSU and might seem low when you hear "only 75%", but because you're drawing such a tiny amount of power to begin with it's only 12W that is being wasted. To put it in perspective at 275W (50% load) it would be around 88% efficient, which sounds much better, but that would mean it's drawing 312W with 37W being wasted - more than 3 times the energy wasted at low loads.

There are new requirements for better efficiency at low loads. The requirement is for 70% efficiency measured at 10W load for <500W PSUs or measured at 2% load for >500W PSUs. If you're really concerned about efficiency at low loads then you could look at replacing the PSU with one of those such as the new Corsair RM series, which taken as an example would be around 85% efficient at the same 40W load pulling 47W which is 5W less than the CX550M [Source: Cybenetics]. Because the difference in terms of power draw due to efficiency at low loads is so small it really wouldn't make any appreciable difference, not something you would notice on your power bill that's for sure.

80+ ratings are based on meeting efficiency requirements at 20%, 50%, and 100%, with additional requirements at 10% load for 80+ Titanium.

OrionFOTL reacted to tikker in How can I force google to repair my phone, that is damaged due to a design flaw that they made?
That's unfortunate. It always sucks when things like this break.
I'm sorry, but you dropping your phone on concrete isn't a design flaw nor is dropping your phone normal operations. Unfortunate with all the modern fancyness of glass touchscreens and bodies comes great vulnerability.
You've provided your own counterargument in your last sentence: it's a pain in the ass to replace just the glass and you need expensive equipment to do it, hence why your run of the mill shop won't or can't do it. They either don't have the expertise or the turnaround to justify it, or both. It's much cheaper and easier to sell and replace screen assembly replacements. $100 also doesn't sound too bad yet to me. All a phone is nowadays is basically a fancy screen with a processor attached put in a tiny case.
Not just somehow, the original cracks definitely weakened the screen. A lot. They introduced a weak point waiting to explode.
Most screen protectors are more to protect from scratches and pointy objects, not from dropping on concrete. Screen protectors are literally made to be destroyed. It wouldn't make sense to provide a multi-year warranty on something that is meant to break (preferably before your phone screen does). If you want to protect against dropping on concrete, you'll need some shock absorbing case to enclose your phone. Not a sticker on the screen.
No it's not. It's literally a piece of glass.

I get it, it sucks when an expensive item breaks, but unfortunately phones aren't the cheap indestructible Nokia's that you can run over with a bulldozer from yonder anymore. They are often quite literally made out of glass and thin plastic/aluminium which just aren't super strong. If you want a rugged phone that you can drop you'll need to look for rugged cases or a rugged phone.

You had an accident, it happens. Do you have any insurance you can perhaps claim it on?

    1. Create a new partition of around 100GB in size.
    2. Install Windows on it.
    3. Done, you'll have Windows on the new partition, and all your old data on the original partition. You'll see them as 'C:' and 'D:' drives in file explorer, or whatever other letters you assign them.

If you want to merge the two partitions later, you can gradually move data from the original partition to the new Windows partition, while resizing the partitions until there's nothing left of the original one.

Yes. Read the documentation for string.Split(). Two overloads of this method take a string[] as an argument.

    var text = "Hello=>here's=>some=>text=>and some symbols: 2=2, 5>4"; var delimiters = new string[] { "=>" }; string[] splittedStrings = text.Split(delimiters, StringSplitOptions.None); foreach (var part in splittedStrings) Console.WriteLine(part); // Output: // Hello // here's // some // text // and some symbols: 2=2, 5>4

The suggestions above to split on chars '=' and '>' are not acceptable, because, well, the task is to split on the string "=>", not on chars '=' and '>'.
    var text = "Hello=>here's=>some=>text=>and some symbols: 2=2, 5>4"; var separators = new char[] { '=', '>' }; string[] splittedStrings = text.Split(separators, StringSplitOptions.RemoveEmptyEntries); foreach (var part in splittedStrings) Console.WriteLine(part); // Output: // Hello // here's // some // text // and some symbols: 2 // 2, 5 // 4

OrionFOTL reacted to Laborant in Good program to learn python?
First of all: Do not install the Python Version you find within the Microsoft Store - this gets installed in a really weird place so the VS Code Python Plugin by Microsoft does not find the Python Installation (At least I run into that problem about half a year ago, when I gave it a try).

Beginners usually do not need many different packages and package versions, so I would even recommend a local install on the PC without any virtual machine. Python itself can be uninstalled cleanly off Windows if things go bad. After Python is installed, Windows listens to the commands "python" and "pip" within the PowerShell. While python executes scripts, pip is your "packet manager". To install packages, simply type "pip install numpy" (for the numpy package) and the packet will be added.

import numpy as np for example will work after that install on your system.

For actual coding, I recommend installing "Visual Studio Code" (not Community 2019, just "VS Code") with Microsofts official Python and PyLance extensions. This conveniently connects to your Python installation, lets you run the Python script by pressing "F5", integrates a Powershell terminal for pip-installs and even integrates the Jupyter-Notebooks. (see below)

When dealing with different package versions, I recommend using Anaconda. (But I do not recommend this to a beginner)

I really like programming Python code within a "JuPyter Notebook". (See image below) This is not really the "way to go" for programming actual programs in an object oriented way, but to develop different algorithms for image processing or to set up a machine learning pipeline. The VS Code installation will connect to your installed Python and let you develop comfortably in a "document" style split into sections. Each section can be run independently but might rely on previous sections.
