  1. Balance is only left-right in windows. You have to use analog output in order to have the volume on each channel. The problem with analog over windows is that it's not that great. For instance i've had youtube songs that had the voice only on the center channel and music coming over the rest of the speakers. And in movies the same. Something's not right. I believe 5.1 support was removed from windows since XP.
  2. Reviving this as i still haven't found a solution. I kept using the Auzentech X-Plosion Cinema 7.1 soundcard and the same Z906 system. But i intend to upgrade my motherboard in a month or two and i won't be able to have PCI on the new motherboard. At this point i really need a new soundcard with DTS or DDL over SPDIF (not over analog). Any ideas?
  3. I was not able to add delays, i have honestly never thought of that. Either i don't know i need it, or i don't need it. The difference in distance between me and front speakers vs me and rear speakers is about an extra 1.5 m. Imagine a room that is 3.5 by 3 meters and 2.3 m high, and i am staying 1 m away from the front wall, and 2 m away from the back wall and the speakers are mounted about 2.1 m high. I don't know if timings are necessary for this short distance, but i'm not excluding it would improve the sound. So far i haven't noticed a need for this but maybe because i didn't know i could need it Any idea about a good sound card with either DTS or Dolby Digital Live? Thanks for your response
  4. It sounds like you might have a problem with the connection between the speakers and the sound card. Try to clean out the dust in the sound card's output. You can try to update the drivers and see if that helps, that's always a good thing to do. Also if this doesn't help can you give us a recording of the sound.
  5. Hey guys, I'm here to ask for help in finding a solution to my audio issue. Here's the problem: I am using a Logitech Z906 5.1 sound system which has an integrated decoder and optical (Toslink) connection and that speaker system is plugged into my PC, the audio card on it is a VERY old AUZEN X-Plosion 7.1. The problem is that due to the way i am sitting in the room where my speakers are set up on the wall, i am way closer to the front (center and left/right) speakers than i am to the back ones. Now the Z906 does have a volume control for front/center/rear speakers but it's not from 0 to 100%, it's more of a small adjustment. Which is not enough. For that matter i was forced to find an audio card (in this case the Auzen X-Plosion) in order to have individual volume control over each speaker when outputting digital 5.1. This way i can turn the volume up on the rear speakers in order to hear them when i'm sitting at my PC, since they're so far away. So far i was able to solve this issue. But i do not know how much this audio card will keep running since it's stopped production in 2008. So i'm betting it's at least 10 years old now (it was bought as SH from Ebay about 3 years ago). The problem now is what to replace it with when it finally goes dead. I would require an audio card (internal preferred but not exclusive) that is able to output a 5.1 digital (not analog) output over toslink (or even coaxial). I've tried using analog outputs from several sound cards but from what I've read and understand, since Windows XP, there is no longer good support for analog 5.1 by Microsoft's Windows. It's pretty hard to find accurate information about what kind of signal is outputted by audio cards when it's digital. Usually they just mention that it's a digital output. but most of the cases it means it's just a stereo output. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope you can help me.
