foxhound590 reacted to Ostwind in gtx 590 vs 760
Raw power the 590 wins but scaling issues and VRAM limit the card to being a toy rather than a serious GPU to game with these days. You'll run into a lot of problems with only 1.5GB of VRAM and that's not even taking into account needing a good PSU and case airflow to run the 590. The 760 is a better choice between the two.

Oh no, you guys sure are gonna miss out on these sweet rocky bits that come off walls when you shoot them. How will you ever enjoy Fallout 4 again without this priceless feature that totally revolutionizes the entirety of the game?

I think a change.org petition should be setup to make Besthesda provide 980 Ti's to every AMD user who bought Fallout 4 so that they can enjoy the game to it's fullest potential without having to live through the horror of not having access a feature which is probably the most important and influential feature to ever be added to any game in the entire history of gaming.

Yes. because that was not done before:

Can't wait for the new iTouch Keyboard for the Apple iSurface Pro 2
(and yes, it detects how much pressure you are applying on the keys, that is how it knows if you typing or having your fingers on the keys resting)

foxhound590 reacted to Kobz360 in Halo 5 legendary ending rant (spoilers, obviously)
Cortana in Halo 5 isn't really the Cortana we know. In Halo 4, when Didact fell into slipspace, allegedly some of Cortana was with him (remember she had multiple copies and whatnot) and in a nutshell, those fragments of Cortana touched the Domain and 'cured' her. While her rampancy is gone in a way, her personality is not all there.. she's not all there. It's obviously clear though that she's not the same, which is why she acts so differently in this game.

Between Halo 4 and 5, Chief and Blue team found Didact on one of the Halo rings and digitised him. The sick lad is still alive though, technically speaking so I'm sure that ties into all of this somehow.

It was pretty much like how the Pillar of Autumn found the 1st Halo ring, wouldn't be surprised if Infinity finds this ring too and hence the continuation of Halo 6. Cortana doesn't believe the Humans should have the mantle of responsibility and hence will kill them all, (with other AI assistance) to ensure it doesn't happen.. I can't really confirm though.

I think the issue with 343's games is that they require a lot more knowledge and backstory, outside of the games itself, all of which I just obtained from Halopedia and whatnot. I think, however, that Cortana going crazy in this game was justified and made sense - it should've been assumed that after H4, Cortana as a whole was dead, regardless of whether she came back or not (if that makes sense).

Overall though, campaign probably could've been longer to include a lot more backstory to all of this and allow things to make more sense.

    UPDATE!
Well this is the conclusion to my project. Is it a good idea to ghetto water cool a PC? YES! If you made a waterblock out of something water tight I could totally see it viable. I don't see it happening on a titan X and i7 5960X but for an old home sever it is a nice little project. We entered the BIOS and the idle temps went from 90C to 59C. I call that a major win considering toothpastes thermal properties. I was going to post a video of use overclocking it and the temps but well lets just say hot glue isn't the best thing to seal things with. After we got the temps we went to the voltage and clock speed but by the time we went to it in the BIOS water had gotten under the pins of the CPU and well you can sorta guess what happened. I also dropped it on a kids toe and think I broke his toe so I might need to give him something. In conclusion it was a fun little project that could of worked it we would have used something like epoxy or waterproof glue. This isn't the end of these kinds of threads from me as we are trying to run GTA V on a cluster of 16 computers. Man it is going to be hard but seeing tek syndicate show a video on how to make GTA V run on linux I have faith. I will post a real build log of when I do a 4K overhaul on my PC this June.

foxhound590 reacted to esplin2966 in !nverse: A Highly Versatile Console Form-Factor Case Design
Hi everyone, I'm here to tell you about an exciting PC case design I am working on. It is called "Inverse". I would very much appreciate any comments or criticisms you may have regarding its design!     My venture into the world of custom-designed cases began when I started building in the tiny Minibox M350 case. Being in a long-distance relationship, I needed something small and powerful so I can take my research with me on a 13-hour train ride every weekend. My pragmatic need for a portable PC soon developed into a full-on obsession as I find myself endlessly tweaking parts and designing mounts to cram as many components as I could into every last bit of space. It is from this obsession that "Inverse" was born.   Shaped by the ethos of fitting the most performance and versatility into the smallest amount of space, Inverse is a sub-10L computer case that can accommodate a full-length graphics card, a 240mm closed-loop liquid cooler, 3.5" and 2.5" hard drives, and a SFX power supply. Its versatile internal layout accommodates hard-core gamers, enthusiasts enamored with water cooling, media hoarders looking to create their own home theater, and anyone in between. Its smooth yet eye-catching exterior will blend into and enhance any desktop or home theater setup.       No exhaust holes on top for a smooth and unobtrusive look.

Internal components are inverted to allow a smooth top panel.

Monitors, speakers, and other desktop peripherals may be placed on top to created an integrated entertainment unit with minimal footprint.

Specifications: Dimension: 464mm x 308.5mm x 72mm (10.31L)   Material: 2mm aluminum for the exterior, and 1.5mm steel for the interior skeleton.   Inverse is designed with 4 interior configurations in mind, though other configurations are possible.   1) Gaming with air cooling i) Accommodates Mini-ITX motherboard.
ii) Accommodates SFX or SFX-L power supply. iii) Accommodates one graphics card up to 12" (305mm) in length, 5.91" (150mm) in width, and 1.81" (46mm) in thickness. iv) Accommodate air coolers up to 55mm in height. v) Accommodate up to 3 x 3.5" drives and 4 x 2.5" drives. vi) Accommodate up to 2 120mm x 15mm case fans over the graphics card for added cooling.

foxhound590 reacted to LinusTech in GTX 480 Video Card Drivers - Then vs Now
NVIDIA owns 80 percent of the discrete graphics card market. This video addresses 80% of our audience and was less than half as much work as one that includes another graphics card just to drive home the same point.

And besides, I don't have any 5 year old AMD graphics cards lying around unfortunately, so we threw the GTX 480 on the bench and went with it.

Nothing to do with h8ing on AMD or whatever. We feature their stuff where it makes sense (lots of VRAM, surround gaming for example -
    )

So Japan has now responded and decided to not only accept, but they've upped the ante.  They want to battle, but they also want the bots to duke it out in melee combat instead of just a paintball duel.

This should be very interesting and I wouldn't be surprised if one of the major networks like Discovery or NBC gets ahold of the TV rights to air this battle.

Should make for some interesting spectacle if nothing else now that robots are trending up with the recent revival of battlebots.

foxhound590 reacted to Whiskers in laptop running slower than pc with same specs
This is quite inaccurate. Windows 8.1 is slightly more efficient than Windows 7 for performance - especially in regards to use on SSDs.

OP: Is the version of Windows on your laptop an OEM version? (A version installed by your laptop's manufacturer) If so, that may be the reason as some OEMs install a lot of bloatware on their devices. A solution to this may be at the very least uninstalling as much of this unnecessary bloatware as possible and see if that improves things. If this doesn't work, you may want to consider a complete reinstall with a normal copy of Windows 8 if that's at all feasible for you.

As an example of this issue, I have a Lenovo B50-30 running an OEM copy of Windows 8.1. When idling, the CPU can randomly jump to 80% utilisation owing to a combination of different programs installed by Lenovo eating up far too many resources.

Rest assured, the problem is highly unlikely to be with Windows 8.1 itself. Although some may dislike the OS for its "modern UI" side of things and lack of a start menu, the OS itself is very well polished and generally regarded as being a slightly improved version of Windows 7.
