Project Datacentre Evolution
It's been just over half a year since the last update, so time to talk about some changes to Project Datacentre Evolution If you're looking for Project Rackcentre, Project Personal Datacentre, Project New Client, or Project Low-Power, you know what to do. This time, I'm going to briefly talk about a current objective.
With the way that devices seem to be pretty much connected no matter where they are, I've decided to put some focus on having more multifunction devices in my inventory. Ones that serve a primary function (such as multimedia consumption), while also being connected to cellular networks. The last part is so that I'll always have a way to reach the server (Project Personal Datacentre), in case something happens. My phone's battery goes bad? My tablet decides that it's time to die? No problem - I have an auxillary client ready, and can still contact the people that I need to (family and friends). While many of the devices on thie current shopping list already fulfill this, some may be changed out for better alternatives over the next half-year. Here's the current list:
-
2020 ::
iPhone 3Gs -
2020 ::
JBL Synchros E50BTor AKG K361 (went for theAKG K240 Studiothis year) -
2020/2021 ::
ASUS Nexus 7 LTE(2013) -
2021 :: Project New Client upgrade plan (
GTX 980M,16GB RAM, etc.) -
2021/2022 ::
Project Personal Datacentre upgrade plan (Tesla K80's, SSD's, etc.) -
2021/2022 :: Perhaps a
new smartwatch(done -LEMFO LEM-T) - Hopefully move out in 2-3 years
- 2023/2024 :: Blackmagic Design camera (for a ded hobby of mine)
-
2025/2026 :: Infrastructure upgrade (EPYC,
10GbE, DDR5, etc.)
As you can see, I originally left out the 10GbE part for the Infrastructure upgrade. That's because I've already started on that, and will be building out a compatible intranet over the next few years. In addition to this, the multifunction part applies to almost everything in this setup. Even Project New Client has cellular capabilities. As of now, Phase 1 of Project Personal Datacentre is nearing completion. Project New Client and Project Low-Power are nearing completion as well, as they are integrated with services from Project Personal Datacentre. Phase 2 will involve major OS updates and addition of a bare-metal host for applications that are currently either not VM friendly or perform poorly in a virtualised environment. Phase 3 will be upgrading of the hypervisor host itself.
