Project New Client
Assuming that I continue the trend of using my laptop(s) primarily as remote access clients/terminals for my T7500 workstation at home, I shouldn't really need anything amazing to take with me, on-the-go. So, why do I have the urge to replace my ProBook 6475b with this:
-
HP EliteBook 8770w
- 17-inch 1080p DreamColor (10-bit) Display
-
choice of either
- Intel Core i7-3940XM
- Intel Core i7-3920XM
- GPU choice of either:
-
either:
- 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-12800 DDR3-1600
- 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-12800 DDR3-1600
- 2TB or 4TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gbps HDD
-
Optical drive choice of either
- Blu-ray R/RE DVD+/-RW SuperMulti DL drive
- DVD+/-RW SuperMulti DL
- No webcam, but include a microphone
- HP 8-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (83 WHr)
- External HP 230W Slim Smart AC adapter (with HP Fast Charge)
- Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise
- HP Advanced Docking Station
I know - overkill laptop is old. But old laptop is also repairable (unlike BGA components) And yes - I know it's IvyBridge. Still better than what I currently have. Also, not interested in thin-and-light. I'm already used to carrying heavier laptops, so I'm willing to get something chunky if it has decent specs and is easy to maintain/repair over time And they kept the Expresscard slot :3 That means my current eGPU dock stays! Just wish that I could get an MXM 3.0b GPU for cheap...
