BaRahTay reacted to AlTech in NeoGAF forum owner accused of Sexual Misconduct
I know this doesn't have huge ties to technology but bear with me.
For those who don't know, NeoGAF is a typically reputable online forum which mainly focuses on gaming.
The owner of NeoGAF is now being accused of Sexual Misconduct.
That's really weird and creepy. I've never been a part of NeoGAF but I know Rich from ReviewTechUSA has used the NeoGAF forum countless times as a source in his videos.
It's sad to see the NeoGAF forum become corrupted by someone who doesn't respect people .

BaRahTay reacted to Bouzoo in Bundle Stars is changing to Fanatical
So just few minutes ago I received an e-mail which says that Bundle Stars, which many of us has grown to love, is changing it's brand/name to Fanatical.
For me this is the first info about this, was anyone else informed about this? They say that they want to upgrade, but I am interested if there is a hidden reason as to why. This is not a conspiracy theory.
Anyway, hope they stay the same, they are for me personally one of of few positive things when it comes to reselling games. All the best to them.

BaRahTay reacted to vanished in Googles Sued For Censoring Conservative PragerU
another one that doesn't understand how this works... when will it end?
Freedom of speech means you can stand on the street-corner and say whatever you want, and no one can shut you up or take you away.
It does not mean you can go up to someone's house or business and demand they build you a pedestal from which to shout whilst on their property.

BaRahTay reacted to Weak1ings in Googles Sued For Censoring Conservative PragerU
Basically, PragerU, a non-profit conservative organization is suing Google for their content being blocked by Youtube in its "Restricted Mode," Citing that it infringes on their freedom of speech from the 1st US amendment. Their videos are also demonetized though to a extent I do not know. The demonetization could simply be missed revenue by having it not show up for the lost viewership. I think this is relevant because Internet censorship is something we should all be extremely interested in and if its happening, should respond to appropriately.

BaRahTay reacted to porina in PCIe 4 specification finalised and released
Source: https://www.anandtech.com/show/11967/pcisig-finalizes-and-releasees-pcie-40-spec
If you're feeling the need for more expansion bandwidth, you can look forward to PCIe 4.0 offering double the per-lane bandwidth over 3.0. This has now been finalised so people can start testing real products using it. It may be assumed they would have a head start using earlier versions of the specification, so they don't have to start from scratch now, and work will be mainly to iron out any implementation and compatibility bugs. From our perspective, could AMD and Intel implement it in the next generation chipsets? We'll have to wait and see. Assuming the number of PCIe lanes doesn't grow significantly in the consumer space, the increased bandwidth may help with using more and/or faster storage or IO.
It is also interesting that PCIe 5.0 has also got a date, under 2 years away in Q2 2019.

BaRahTay reacted to Hawx in Intel Launches its Next-Gen Intel Optane 900p SSD

Well, it's certainly fast. The latency is apparently what makes all the difference in general usage though.
A Star Citizen game package & ship, the Intel-exclusive Sabre Raven (which will be available to fly in SC's next major patch) is also bundled with the drive, which could potentially be a $170+ cashback if you aren't interested in holding on to it.
(this packaging looks really neat!)
EDIT: Review is now up:

Jesus christ this drive is fast

BaRahTay reacted to WMGroomAK in Has CAPTCHA been defeated? Meet the AI based on the Visual Cortex
Ars Technica has a nice write up of an article in Science where a Bay Area startup called Vicarious AI has developed a new AI based on how a mammals visual cortex works called the Recursive Cortical Network (RCN). The best description of how this works from Ars is:
https://arstechnica.com/science/2017/10/inspired-by-brains-visual-cortex-new-ai-utterly-wrecks-captcha-security/
When they used this methodology on reCAPTCHA, training the AI with the Georgia Font, the RCN was able to have a 94% recognition rate of letters as opposed to the human accuracy of 87% and the system even achieved a 57% accuracy against BotDetect, which is used by PayPal & Yahoo. When looking at training samples, this AI outperforms it's next best contender by about 1.9% but achieves this with only about 1400 image samples as compared to the leading contenders 7.9 million images.
It would seem to me that the CAPTCHA methodology of determining whether someone is a bot or not may be reaching it's end with this.

Just read this article about samsung tuning 40 old galaxy s5s in to a bitcoin mining rig and other uses
https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-bitcoin-mining-rig-810977/amp/
I love the idea of this becoming a thing and having them as connected smart cameras and alike
My s7 edge with a smashed screen sat In a draw would make a legit face recognition security camera
All I imagine it would need is a app and enclosure both made by some enterprising young person
