  1. i just talked to the dad and we discussed dulling the case down but he still wants RGB's on the keyboard and mouse and mouse pad. that will save some money. im going to research a little more tonight and see about putting that 3600 and either a 2070 or the AMD equivalent. i cant remember the number right now and ive got to go. thanks for the advice
  2. it is for me. i take my computer apart to "clean" it every 6 months. it usually doesnt need to be cleaned i just like taking it apart and putting it back together lol
  3. i completely agree. im going to talk to them about that but i have a feeling that he will have to learn about that the hard way like a lot of us have had to. looks may or may not be a factor i will find out soon and if i can cut cost on cosmetics i will and get him more performance.
  4. thanks for the info i will look into all of this as soon as i get the time. the 2060 was to compliment the mother board. just for aesthetics as he said he wanted a lot of RGB lights but i know exactly what you mean. the 4TB drive was only $15 more than the 2 and over the years i have found that there is never too much space cause i keep running out myself lol. but i see where money can be saved there. with the monitor i was thinking there would be better ones out there so im still looking but i really wanted to get one with high refresh rates. but yea i have an IPS monitor and it makes TN monitors look like toys so i know what you mean. i didnt realize i forgot a cooler. ill definately have to figure out something for that. good catch. with the PSU i only chose it because i bought one for a friend a couple of years ago and it was reliable. i used to have a lot of trouble with PSU's years back so im cautious about buying anything i havent used myself if you know what i mean. I'm not new to this forum btw. i joined over 6 years ago but i havent posted anything since. ive been working a lot and kind of got out of the PC building thing the past couple of years. i have a co worker who told me about his kid and he was going to buy a gaming PC from walmart and thats what got me looking back into it because i just couldnt let him do that.lol thank you for your post and taking the time to recommend some changes. it looks like i have some more research to do.
  5. i will keep all this in mind and thank you for your help
  6. nice build. one of the reasons i went with the amd 2600 and the nvidia 2060 was because the keyboard and mouse have to be included in the cost. i noticed that you didnt include that in your picks so thats why i bring it up. the rx 5700 that keeps getting brought up is priced higher than the 2060 as well, if i buy one that is cheaper than the one i picked of course so im a little torn between those two. windows has to be included but i have a copy i can give them thats legit.
  7. i must say that i just went back and read all of my replies and i see no argument from me so im just going to assume that you were trolling me
  8. i wasnt trying to argue. i was trying to ask questions. sorry if it seemed that way but i have stated several times im looking at the performance difference in those two cards so i dont know if you read all the comments but i have been saying that several times and thank you for taking the time to help me out with this. the only reason why im on here is because i stopped keeping up with current hardware about 3 years ago and i am taking all recommendations in account so that i can get "this kid" a good value for his money.
  9. why wouldnt that CPU be able to play at 165fps?
  10. im looking into performance differences on that card now. thanks for the recomendation
  11. thank you i will look into that and check out wht you recomended
  12. also i run raytracing on the new metro game and it runs really good at 1440p so i dont really understand why people say that its not good on this card. i cant turn ray tracing all the way up but i can turn it on and it looks amazing. i will say that when metro first came out the ray tracing was broken as all hell but after they updated the game it works pretty good for me. im talking about my personal system btw not the one for the kid. i havent bought anything for him yet
  13. i edited one of the last posts to clear that up
  14. no i havent bought it for him. i have one in my own system. sorry for the confusion
  15. that looks cool but like i stated in the original post those are just there for prices. i really wanted him to pick out his own mouse and keyboard
  16. i dont understand. i did point out in the original post that i picked the 2060 so he could have the option to have ray tracing. unless your saying that me having a 2060 would be an important factor. i dont see why that would be of any importance. of course it did persuade me to pick it for him since it works so well for me but i am looking at performance differences since you brought up the 5700x. i didnt really know about that card untill people started telling me about it on this forum. lol like i said its been awhile since ive built a PC
  17. i just realized that you were saying if you turned on ray tracing with the 2060 it would be bad. im getting pretty good performance with raytracing on the new Metro game. it wasnt good when the game first came out but after an update its running great.
  18. i have a 2060 and it runs everything at 1440p really nice with proper FPS. Ray tracing may not be there but it is an option that the 5700 doesnt have
  19. the 2070 is $100 more and i picked it to match the MB and have the RGB lights he wants
  20. idk if the 5700xt is "better" or not but the 2060 has ray tracing and its an option i wanted to give him the hard drive was $85. thats pretty cheap and the M.2 should give him the performance Im actually giving him a copy of windows myself for free but i added that to cover taxes or maybe a better keyboard/mouse
  21. I just posted this somewhere else in the forum and realized that it was in the wrong place. im sorry for re-posting but Heres what i was thinking would be good for this young man PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor $117.58 @ OutletPC Motherboard Asus ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard $119.89 @ OutletPC Memory G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory $84.99 @ Amazon Storage Intel 660p Series 1.02 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive $94.00 @ Walmart Storage Western Digital Blue 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive $84.99 @ Newegg Video Card Asus GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB STRIX GAMING Advanced Video Card $394.99 @ Newegg Case Corsair Carbide 175R RGB ATX Mid Tower Case $69.98 @ Amazon Power Supply Corsair CX (2017) 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $69.98 @ Amazon Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit $99.89 @ OutletPC Case Fan Corsair HD120 RGB 3-Pack w/Controller 54.4 CFM 120 mm Fans $73.89 @ OutletPC Monitor Asus VG248QG 24.0" 1920x1080 165 Hz Monitor $179.99 @ Best Buy Keyboard Corsair K55 RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard $49.88 @ Amazon Mouse Corsair M65 RGB ELITE Wired Optical Mouse $49.99 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $1555.04 Mail-in rebates -$65.00 Total $1490.04 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-10-30 10:44 EDT-0400 his dad asked me to build him a PC for gaming and a little video editing for youtube. no streaming. the only game he told me about was fortnight. I'm sure he will play other games but his dad doesnt really know. I havent been in the building pc game in a couple of years and i just wanted to make sure that this would be a nice starter system for this kid to get into pc gaming. his budget is $1500 for everything. he has nothing. im going to give him a gaming headset that ive had forever and never use but other than that i think ive thought of everything. if anyone knows a better set up for the same money i would be interested in checking out your recomendations. thanks in advance. oh and his dad says he really likes the RGB lighting lol i think he will be playing competitively online so i want him to be able to get high frame rates hence the monitor the extra hard drive space is because storage was cheap and he will be recording gameplay footage. i picked out the 2060 so he could have gsync and ray tracing abilities i picked the CPU because i thought it would not be a bottleneck and he could upgrade in a couple of years if need be. i picked out a lot of RGB lighting because his dad said he wanted that i picked the keyboard and mouse only for the prices. he will be picking out the peripherals that he wants on a side note, his dad is not paying for this believe it or not. he saved his money working summers. i only say this because it impressed me and i want to make sure he gets his moneys worth for working so hard at such a young age.
  22. i guess i put this in the wrong topic area. is there anyway to move this discussion to the right topic without re-posting it?
  23. BTW, this kids dad told me that the kid is paying for it with the money he saved from working summers. im only saying this because it really impressed me. i need to find out where he was working so i get a job there and upgrade my system lol
