You just pull the stock pads off and put the other ones on. The sound signature on the M50x's is U/V shaped, so there is a dip in vocals/treble.

I bought some M50x's a few months ago and I love them. they're pretty comfortable, but you do have to break them in. I also recommend replacing the stock pads with something a little bit thicker, because I found my ears to scrape up against the insides.
