  1. So most Windows software can be emulated on the Mac? Will i be able to use all Windows software including saving files and whatnot if i use parallels? Sorry for the dumb and repetitive questions haha Ive listed the different courses, their names are in Norwegian but ill attempt to translate their names as accurately as possible to give you an idea of what were going to be doing First Semester: -Databases -Digital Technology -Introduction to Programming -Creative Project Second Semeseter: -Computer Security (Cyber Security) -Object Oriented Programming -Visual Analytics Third Semester: -Android Programming -Interaction Design 1 -Web Developement Fourth Semester: -Agile Project -Free choice of subjects or exchange semester Fifth Semester: -IOS Programming -Cross Platform -Agile Project -Research Methods Sixth Semester: -Bachelor Project
  2. I did some research since you asked about the type of school haha Its not a trade school, we have those in Norway aswell. After youve finished 10 years of mandatory school in Norway you can go onto either "Specialized Studies" or "Trade School". Trade Schools do not offer Bachelors Degrees and you have to choose "Specialized Studies" to be eligible to enter either a University or a "Høyskole" which in the US is known as "University College" apperantly. Both "Trade Schools" & "Specialized Studies" require 3 years after the 10 years that are mandatory and once those are finished you can apply for a "University College" or "University". Both of these types of schools in Norway offer Bachelors, Masters and PHD degrees within their fields. Most people in Norway dont actually attend Universities but rather University Colleges and the most sought after one is the one specializing in Economics and its known as the "Norwegian School of Economics" or "Norges Handelshøyskole".
  3. So ive talked to my guidance councelor and he did not specify which software will be used exactly because he said theres "alot of it". Which i feel like is a poor reply but whatever... He said that the only software that is required to have MacOS for is IOS programming, but that other courses may require MacOS based on the individual teachers pick of software. And considering bootcamp is not a thing with Mac anymore i might have to get both machines wont i?
  4. Im from Norway and no, Universitys do not directly give courses in these exact subjects. Its a different type of institution in Norway thats not really comparable to College, but not either comparable to University. Its kind of lodged between the two, and is very common here because University in Norway are usually theory and not practice based, atleast moreso. Theyre common for people getting Bachelors degrees and Masters degrees in specific subjects like Economics and whatnot.
  5. Im not certain of the exact software ill be using. I have an appointment with my guidance councelor scheduled for the day after tomorrow. Would it be okay if i messaged you back then when i know more? Do you personally recommend getting a Macbook?
  6. Im starting my Bachelors degree in IT and im doing Front-End/Back-End developement alongside software developement for Android and IOS. The school says both Windows and MacOS are needed. Windows for basically everything and then MacOS for IOS developement. So i was wondering what my best option buying a laptop would be cause id rather not buy an expensive Windows laptop and then an expensive Macbook aswell They recommend a Mac with a partition of Windows on the drive, but is that even possible with M1? Can i partition MacOS on a Windows laptop instead? I know Windows can run in parralells, but will i be able to use Windows software (through emulation ofcourse) to its full potential and save files and programs and code and whatnot (lot of ands) if i use Windows 10 through parrallels on my M1 Mac? (also a bonus question thats not really relevant to the subforum: but based on what im going to be using the laptop for, if Windows is the way to go should i get a GPU? (i wont be gaming on the laptop) or just a really good CPU and rely on integrated graphics?) Any feedback is greatly appriciated!
  7. One more question if you dont mind haha Does it use a 3.5" or 2.5" HDD originally? Because if its a 3.5" ill probably also have to purchase some sort of bracket to make it fit correct?
  8. Thank you so much for all the in-depth help Actually im not replacing the drive, the store is. Because he has a "service agreement" that he was stupid enough to pay 900 Euros for they will replace it for him provided he has the hardware free of charge. I preferred to have them do it as i heard you need suction cups and whatnot to get the screen off which sounds like a hassle if i can avoid it haha (Yes they will perform the replacement even though they told him to buy a new one and when i came in told me they didnt recommend replacing the HDD because it may cause issues) but they will perform the task so i wanted to make sure before i purchase a HDD.
  9. Yes, it does have an Optical Drive on the right hand side.
  10. Yes im sorry. They PURCHASED it in 2012 i should have specified, i just assumed its a 2012 model i guess. I cannot log onto the computer so i cannot verify, but its a thick model i would assume as its not very slim imo.
  11. So my buddys 2012 iMac had the Hard Drive fail. The store which he bought it at told him Apple doesent supply parts to that machine anymore so its pretty much dead, which i find wierd because it just uses a standard HDD. So i went into the store and asked them if i couldnt just buy a new HDD from any company and throw that in there, and they say that MIGHT work, but that it might not "work correctly" and its not something they would recommend. To me this sounds wierd, its just a standard HDD in there so why wouldnt a replacement one work just fine? So my question is: Is what they are saying just bullshit because other HDDs are not "apple recommended" or will there be issues if i just throw another standard 7200rpm HDD in there and boot up the system? I found exact replacement drives on Ebay for the 2012 iMac but theyre more expensive, like 3 times as expensive so i was wondering if it would be okay just to throw the odd WD or Seagate drive into the Mac and boot up? I apologize in advance if this has been posted in the wrong sub-forum.
  12. The camera is detected, i checked and it gives me the Model ID and Unique ID of the camera. What can i check under privacy? Ive attempted to use online services also such as omegle and the camera is black even if i give the website permission. How can i check if drivers are corrupt?
  13. When i attempt to use any app with the built in camera the green light goes on but the screen remains black. I booted into safe mode and attempted the same apps (facetime, photobooth, microsoft teams) but this time the green light does not appear and it tells me the camera is not connected. Its a 2016 model Intel Macbook Pro. Might this be a hardware error? Or are there any other steps i may attempt to resolve the issue? Edit ive also tried: sudo killall VDCAssistant command in Terminal and no "processes were found".
  14. Completely agree, imo the difference in resolutions on small monitors is not really noticable to myself atleast so i prefer to target high frame rates. Much smoother experience all the way!
  15. So, a friend of mine recently invested in a Macbook Air (the Intel one the M1 hadnt come out yet) because at school she needed to use software only availible on MacOS. I told her to just go Hackintosh with a Windows laptop as i feel they offer far more bang for the buck. Realizing that alot of editing softwares are Mac exclusives, will this make them even more exclusive in the future when the software cuts support for older x86 Macs? Do you think that these developers will start making x86 Windows compatible versions of the software to not have it locked on the Mac or do you think people will be absolutely forced to purchase Macs in the future to use ceirtain software? I know Microsoft is already doing the custom chip thing with their Surface Books, are we looking at a future where not all computing will be x86 and will see a very fragmented market? With every company attempting to lock down their own platform to create monopolies? (im not an expert in computer architectures so some stuff i might have misunderstood)
  16. Not to divert from the conversation, but since youre being so careful about your purchase. How much are you giving for that 360?
  17. Its an old topic but in case you havent found an answer yet ill pitch in. Im not completely sure what youre asking though, are you looking for a new laptop to run SWTOR better? Heres the deal: Yeah, your GPU is definetely a bigger bottleneck than your CPU here, but your CPU is definetely a bottleneck aswell. Heres the thing: SWTOR is heavily reliant on CPU, and tbh the indicators in the corner, you shouldnt mind them. Biowares version (broken version) of the Hero Engine is horribly optimized and is not at all good for use in an MMO, it was most likely used to cut corners on cost. SWTOR is a 32 bit application, so it does not use 1 only. It can use all your cores, but usually doesent scale very well beyond 2 cores therefore IPC (Instructions Per Cycle) of the CPU is extremely important. This is in laymans terms the ammount of calculations your core can do. Higher = Better (especially for a game like SWTOR. Looking at your CPU its got Hyperthreading, which is nice for multitasking, but SWTOR is an old game and doesent really give two shits about your hyperthreading CPUs abilities. Its ability to boost to 3.5Ghz is nice, but it depends on the individual laptops cooling to give it the ability to get that extra oumph. Otherwise it has a relatively low gaming base clock of 2.6Ghz. Dont expect to upgrade and be able to do 16 man raids or Warzones and get a good framerate however. With my i5 10600K (if im playing at max settings) i can still drop to 25FPS in 16 Wzs. Thats why you always turn off foliage quality and turn off shadows when doing anything other than questing in this game, it will tank your framerate. If youre looking at a laptop for an upgrade i would need your budget and location to help you out. TLDR: You need a better computer, especially CPU (but GPU also wouldnt hurt).
  18. No, the 9900K is already overkill for gaming and is MORE than enough for even 4K gaming. So youre good for a awhile. (assuming you have the 9900k already and youre considering an upgrade)
  19. So, recently after my buddy installed Geforce Experience to update his drivers, his framerate in Fortnite has been capped at wierd numbers: When he launches the game the framerate is always capped at some arbitrary number like 80-95-115 etc. Weve tried the following: Uninstall and re-installing the game Disabling V-sync in Nvidia control panel aswell as in-game Uncapping the framerate in geforce experience, nvidia control panel and ingame Re-rolling to older drivers Uninstalling geforce experience Yet it has all been to no avail, any recommendations on steps he may take to proceed? Temps and loads are normal and not anything out of the ordinary The GPU in question is an ASUS Geforce GTX 1060 6GB
  20. Got a 1080p screen, so not going 4K in the near future, im more concerned with framerate. I usually do 1080p Max Settings, and id like to try Ray Tracing. So essentially id like to run newer games at 1080p, Max Settings w/ Ray Tracing @60fps
  21. Correct, im not into Overclocking and dont know much about it, so the CPU only goes as far as the stock settings will allow it to boost (which i believe is 4.5Ghz on all cores?) And another thing, will i be bottlenecking a 3070 with a 10600k?
  22. Im considering upgrading to a 3070 (if im able to get my hands on one :P) once they launch. Im however wondering if i need to upgrade my PSU, ive found other threads about this, some say you dont need a very powerful one if its a good model, others say you need 750W. My current specs: CPU: Core i5 10600k GPU: ASUS 1660 Super ROG Strix CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition Ram: 2x8GB HyperX Fury DDR4 2666Mhz MB: ASUS ROG Strix B460-F Gaming Storage: Kingston A2000 Nvme SSD 500GB PSU: Corsair RM550x 550W Any help would be greatly appricated
  23. I recently sold my old computer but forgot to log out of my microsoft account on the computer. I was wondering if there is a way for me or for the new owner to disconnect my microsoft account from the computer? Is there a way i can "log out of all devices"? Or something like that? Any help is greatly appriciated
  24. Will the system support 2 M.2 ssds? Im planning on getting another 1TB in the future, i hate hard drives Duly noted on the PSU though
  25. Will a 10th gen i5 bottleneck a 2060 in gaming? Im planning GPU upgrades in the future so i would like the CPU to last a bit.
