  1. Try running the Network ID wizard to rejoin the computer to the domain. Right click on Start Menu > System > Advanced System Settings > Network ID Just follow the wizard and choose to use the existing computer account in AD when you get the choice.
  2. Hi all, Just looking for a bit of expert advice on this since choosing a UPS is not my forté at all! Looking to replace all of the UPS units in one of the server environments I manage. The units will be supplying power for the following items: 4x Servers (2800 watts roughly in total I would predict) 2x 24 Port PoE Switches 4x 48 Port Switches 1x Chassis based HP core switch 1x Cisco 1900 Series enterprise router 1x VoIP phone system 1x NTE unit Im trying to find a couple of units that will provide a little bit of expandability in the future, but not something that is completely over kill. Aiming for a 5-10 minute run time in the event of power loss. My choice at the moment is two of these units, I think they fall nicely into the remit of what I am looking for. http://www.misco.co.uk/product/Q628622/APC-Smart-UPS-X-3000VA-Rack-Tower-LCD-200-240V Do you guys think I am going after the right units or am I way off the mark? Thanks!
  3. Its been so long, that I almost forgot how I found Linus Tech Tips, I was looking for a review of something and amongst all search results on youtube, outpopped an unboxing video, a concept I had never 'viewed' before, after all, who wants to look at a guy open a box and take a product out? Oh boy how wrong was I, the videos were snappy, insightful, gave an actual hands on experience of the unboxing of the product with a minimalist overview of what it offers. I have watched the channel grow from what was blue room with cameraman (the old blue room!) to what is now an organization thriving base and an extremely diverse set of skilled individuals. The production quality has increased tenfold, but the essence of the videos has stayed the same throughout - provide viewers with insightful information about up and coming technology and provide a hands on visual experience of the product. And then along came the Linus Tech Tips forum, from its conception way back in the garage live streaming days when the server would flake out if Linus so much as looked at it, to what is now a stable, reliable forum with a massive community. Again though the essence has stayed the same throughout with this project, to provide a warm welcoming environment for people to share their enthusiasm in technology and share support and ideas with one another without the fear of being judged. And that's why I still watch Linus Tech Tips, its a god damn awesome these days, but it never forgets its roots. I don't post on the forum an awful lot, but I know that's its here if I ever need support or if I ever feel like giving support to others. Amen to that!.
  4. Apologies if I go over things that have already been said, just skimmed the topic so might have missed some stuff. Boy it looks like one hell of a setup for a home environment. Ill chip in my 2 pennies worth though. Switch is a good choice, you can't really go wrong with HP network kit (I manage the network of an Academy which is running full HP networking infrastructure and they really are bullet proof). Patch Panel, honestly I wouldn't skimp on this, buy a good decent brand one, some of the cheaper ones like to hold onto your patch cables for dear life and never let go, excel panels are great. Cable, some good quality Cat6 cable will serve you well, I understand some peoples arguments for installing Cat5e, but honestly, if you want to future proof, its Cat6 all the way. 10Gig ethernet will become affordable at some point. Use solid core cables with a low AWG for the runs through the walls. RJ45 Keystones, You should be fine with what you have, easy enough to replace if they turn out to be garbage, I have to ask though since you are buying panels which are not flush mounted, are you planning on running trunking down all your walls to the ports? Might look a bit unruly if you do. Before you pull your cables through, label them up, that will save you a headache when you come around to patching them in. Also if you buy a few lengths / reels of cable you can pull through multiple runs at once, makes it a little easier. Just speaking from my experience of cabling CAT6. Take it as you wish
  5. Is it just me or was Slick right? I couldn't see a cherry mx logo on those keyboards, cant verify this now as the video has been removed.
  6. Beast PC - 9.5/10, perfect for gaming, only voted 9.5/10 because I guess 10/10 is reserved for the 'best in slot' systems. 7. Well a LAN party would be pretty impossible I think, but why not a WAN party? If LMG could organize some game servers, charge a small fee to 'enter', to cover the costs, then we just have a big old party for a weekend or something. Get a rough idea of numbers from the forum then create the world's biggest WAN party to date! I would pay $10 for sure.
  8. Normally Scan, Ebuyer, Aria and Amazon. Although I am buying more stuff off ebay these days, Scan has an ebay shop which sells a lot of their items they do on their own website, yet the delivery is next day for free, unlike their site where its normally at least £4.99, doesn't make much sense, but I am not complaining!
  9. Heres the protocol I use: For data I can easily replace and that wouldn't be more than a minor inconvienience if I lose: I don't eject but I also make sure that I am not performing any writes to the drive at the time. For other peoples USB sticks, or data which I do not have a backup of (I always take a backup though so its a bit of an null point): I always eject the USB stick under all circumstances, I work as an IT technician and the last thing I want is some one crying to me because their memory stick becomes corrupt and they are too dumb to think about taking a backup. From experience, it does make a difference though, the amount of staff members I have had come to me with corrupt USB sticks expecting me to wave some magic wand over it and recover their data is immense, they never take backups and they never eject, so its bound to happen to them sooner or later, especially when they use the stupid free memory sticks that look like they should be found in a bag of cereal. Bare in mind also that the amount of use the drive receives also makes it more likely to be come corrupt, in my work environment USB sticks are the primary method of transfer between work and home for some reason and as a result they get hammered on a regular basis. As much as their ignorance annoys me, I do take backups of their data whenever I can, normally gets me on their good side if I can save their day and present a backup of their data.
  10. Sublime Text 2 for web development.
  11. Really love this keyboard but I feel like £120 is just a bit too expensive for it here in the UK, especially when they are $130 in the US. :(
  12. Its already happening, I know that VMWare Fusion comes on a memory stick, the memory sticks are read-only which is a shame though (we now have 50 of them at work with no use for them!). Its pretty essential when you think about it, laptop disc drivers are being sacraficed in a lot of cases to make way for a smaller chassis, so I guess companies need to appeal to that segment aswell as everyone else.
