  1. There are many power supply calculators online, just google it and choose one. If one does not list all of your parts, then choose a different one. It is a good idea to try a few to get a better idea since they may use different criteria for their determination. Remember, the power supply is connected to every other component in your system and they don't just shut down when they fail. They could surge and damage other, very expensive, parts. Using a cheap power supply in a gaming PC is like putting retreads on a sports car.. . .NEVER a good idea. . . If / when looking for a CPU upgrade, look here first to verify compatibility and if you need to upgrade your BIOS. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H81MK/HelpDesk_CPU/ It usually is easier to find a deal on a CPU a couple of steps below the "Top of the line".
  2. Until someone else chimes in, I'll take a crack at this. First, usually you would need to hold the power button in for a few seconds to shut down the PC (depending on system settings). Pulling the power cord is ALWAYS a bad idea. It is simulating a power failure and unless you have an SSD there is a good chance of corrupting files or even damaging your HD. As to the monitor shutting down, did you try a different monitor to make sure that was not the problem? Next, the video card may be shutting down due to thermals, check to see if the fan(s) are spinning when you power up the PC. Try to get into the BIOS before the PC attempts to boot to windows, that will put less strain on the video card and you will have a chance to see if the monitor still shuts down in a few minutes. Since your Motherboard does not have integrated graphics, try to find another graphics card to put in the machine to see if the problem goes away. Try the GTX 1050TI in a different machine to see if the same problems occurs. Also, there could be a problem with the power suppy. If the graphics card is not getting proper power it could shutdown. Just because a PC turns on is not a guarantee that the power supply is funtioning properly.
  3. Don't forget the good'ole Wikipedia. . . and not for the info but for the listed resources. They will START to point you in the right direction. You need to learn HOW to research if you will be writing articles. Community forums are for quick answers to immediate problems from people who have had similar problems. And everyone will tell you to NOT rely 100% on the information, but take it in context. The people here want to help the community, but any information here cannot be used as a reference for published material. It most likely isn't your fault, the schools are just not teaching basic skills anymore. (Like critical thinking. . . )
