Biography
Living in the central Virginia area my whole life, interested in tech from an early age, fell back on my interest once engineering school level math was above my comprehension, love what I do even it gives me a disdain for tech support at times.

Police Demand Google Maps Remove New ‘Speed Trap’ Feature
SpeedDemonAdam88 replied to Flying Sausages's topic in Tech News
One thing I think these claims to remove the feature neglect to mention is in my experience in Google Maps you only see the speed traps when you set a route and begin navigating. Even then it only shows those reported along your route. It is not like people pull up google maps and browse to find speed traps online. -
I think you are mistaking The indents in the IO sheild for where the case separates PCIe slots. I think the open gaps in most cases exist where those little fingers protrude at the bottom and the separators are at the peaks between them. It is cutting it awfully close though.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1180 PCB: more power, new SLI finger
SpeedDemonAdam88 replied to YongKang's topic in Tech News
Given the last update to SLI using the High Bandwidth bridge I don't see the bandwidth/scaling need since Nvidia has settled on 2 way SLI/Multi GPU support. I believe the SLI HB bridge was said to be good up to like 5K or Surround gaming. The question might be does more than 60 FPS at 4k require more bandwidth than 60hz 5K? food for thought. Hopefully we get an official announcement at the end of the month. SLI HB testing source -
Modifying AIO for custom loop
SpeedDemonAdam88 replied to Firewrath9's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
I agree, also having expanded an expandable AIO before i can say it works for a year or so but even with frequent fluid change the aluminum takes away some nickel plating on the cpu block and or GPU one, if the pump doesn't die first. This was only possible on an "expandable" AIO for me. I would recommend OP to look for an AIO for his GPU or when upgrading find a Hybrid/AIO equipped GPU if the CPU AIO is still going strong. -
Youtube kicking off Gun Channels, oppurtunity for Floatplane?
SpeedDemonAdam88 replied to starkiller1's topic in Tech News
Found a ok article about what this means. Take it for what it's worth. I do not pretend to agree or disagree with the opinions in said article. The Hill "YouTube introduces stricter policies on gun videos"- 140 replies

Youtube kicking off Gun Channels, oppurtunity for Floatplane?
SpeedDemonAdam88 replied to starkiller1's topic in Tech News
Good question. I would say no as long as you are not showing in an instructional manner no more than watching someone open a door is different than instructing them how to. Even if the task can be fairly simple. This seems like a bit of an edge case and is more aimed at modifying the gun with accessories to make it fire faster etc.. will see.- 140 replies

Youtube kicking off Gun Channels, oppurtunity for Floatplane?
SpeedDemonAdam88 replied to starkiller1's topic in Tech News
I second this. Out of the "gun" channels out there Matt should be ok going forward and almost all of his videos are not directly asking people to buy guns and he never shows how to modify or fix/work on them. Will see how heavy handed Youtube/Google is with this. They did say "Intends to sell firearms or certain firearms accessories through direct sales (e.g., private sales by individuals) or links to sites that sell these items. " which would mean as long as you are not trying to sell it like being a dealer or private seller OR don't put links to where to buy the guns or Hi-Cap / Bump-Fire accessories.- 140 replies

Inno3D leaks confirm a possible GP102 accelerator card for mining
SpeedDemonAdam88 replied to Djole123's topic in Tech News
Nvidia is just making a chip and selling it for the same price as ever. This chip likely will be similar cost to a 1080 ti but the board will be cheaper. Retailers like Newegg and Amazon are to blame for the high prices due to supply/demand. Supply Demand Curve -
Inno3D leaks confirm a possible GP102 accelerator card for mining
SpeedDemonAdam88 replied to Djole123's topic in Tech News
Agree, it is all down to MSRP. I think given the lack of video outputs this should be cheaper and i can assume it is just a re-tweaked existing GP102 core. Still may depend on yeilds and if they can get enough supplied to help at all. Previous efforts like this had failed due to insufficient supply and being the same price. -
Seems that once again Cryptocurrency like Etherium is spiking, causing some GPU prices to surge. A quick glance on Newegg, for GTX 1070 or GTX 1070 Ti cards even the RX 580 and RX 480 to some degree, shows many GPUs going for almost double MSRP. This is very unfortunate as it seemed GPU prices were just normalizing somewhat. PCGamer has written an article about this recent development which seems to cover it in some regard. http://www.pcgamer.com/hang-onto-your-graphics-cards-as-cryptocurrency-mining-spikes-gpus-prices/ I was initially tipped off to this on the PCMR subreddit. Showing a local electronics store being completely out of GPUs I have found that the site for PassMark benchmarks to show on average the price trends as it tries to find the lowest price cards to compare price/performance. GTX 1070 https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+1070&id=3521 GTX 1070 TI https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+1070+Ti&id=3842 -noting this cards price shows somewhat closer to normality but observe the big spike recently in the chart. GTX 1080 https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+1080&id=3502 Let's hope this calms down quickly for all those who want to build a PC as the RAM price hikes are bad enough right now.

Deepcool Baronkase Liquid with built in AIO
SpeedDemonAdam88 replied to NumLock21's topic in Tech News
Neat idea i wonder how they justified a flow indicator for a 120mm Rad routed to the front of the case. Seems like extra tubing for little benefit unless it's open loop in some way. -
