  1. The case holds 3 3.5 in and 2 2.5 in SSD, which is how many I plan to use. I would enjoy a hot swappable case but I can buy a different case down the line as I upgrade stuff. although I won't really be changing drives all that much (I won't be stressing the drives to bad witty my planned use so I'm assuming the red wd will hold up well. )
  2. Agreed, that's why I said over powered, but it's simply getting old parts from my main pc that aren't being used for the new pc. Rather than buying a setup that is more in line with what a nas really needs, ill use what I already have..
  3. Ok, so I have an upgrade planned here so that I can do two things. One, turn my current PC into an overpowered NAS. Two, upgrade main PC just cuz.... oh and to make a custom WC loop, just cuz.. I made a topic about case choices and have spent like 2 weeks now looking around, as this is one of the first pieces i NEED to get in order to get everything ready and know it will all FIT! I think i've narrowed it down and chose one that will work out well, and look good doing it.. So here's the list! Case: Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 (black/silver or black/black, haven't decided on color scheme yet) MB: MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon CPU: i5-7600K (not getting the 7700K so I can keep cost down, $100 cheaper, and honestly, I don't NEED a 7700K) RAM: G.Skill TridentZ RGB series, 2x8GB with 2 more planned later (DDR4 3000) GPU: MSI GTX 1080 SEAHAWK (comes with EK block, hopefully installed correctly!!!) PSU: Corsair RM750i (already have in current PC but am going to get a cablemods kit for it or possibly just do the custom sleeve myself so it can be.. well custom) Storage: Samsung 950 Pro M.2 that I have currently, replacing with a 960 EVO or Pro eventually (currently 250GB, will stay with 250 since this is just OS drive) Samsung 850 EVO x2 in Raid 1 (probably 500GB since I don't need MUCH storage on this PC) Cooling: EK waterblocks for CPU and GPU (comes with GPU), 2x 240/260 rads, pump and res (probably separate but still not sure), most likely all EKWB products. I'm doing a hard line loop, possibly acrylic but I MIGHT go with plated brass, still haven't decided. I'll be putting in custom lighting, more than likely customize a lot of other stuff, possibly even paint some internal components to look COOLLLERRR The NAS will be using my old system Case: NZXT H340 Razer Edition (really cool case, LOVE it, just to small for my new system) MB: ASUS Maximus VIII Hero z170 CPU: i5-6600K RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw V 2x8GB DDR4 2400 i think? PSU: Corsair RM550x Storage: 2x Samsung EVO 250GB SATA drives for OS in Raid 0 1-3 WD Red 4/8 TB drives for storage (starting with 1 but am aiming for 3 for a raid setup) Cooling: Corsair H110i? i think is whats on the CPU currently No GPU cuz it'll be headless running UnRaid or FreeNAS (leaning towards Unraid, been playing with it, really like its capabilities) Any opinions are welcome! I haven't been able to play with many of the latest toys because budget hasn't allowed for it. But I want to build a nice full tower with an open side so I can show off a shiney custom loop and even shinyer components! I'm looking at around $1500 in main PC + $800 (over-estimated) for WC loop with around $200 to spare for customization (LED strips, custom sleeves, custom other things and stuff...) for a total of about $2500. I don't wanna go over this and I over-estimated the WC setup so that I WILL have some wiggle room with any components (I actually expect about 500-600 for the WC setup since I don't need a GPU block). I'm also not "really" accounting for the NAS storage other than I think 1 4TB drive and 1 EVO 250GB (I already have 1..) so theres another ~300 in storage needed.
  4. Yea I was picking the 1070 because it came with an EK block installed already for the same price of the air cooled models (cheaper than many in fact..) and the 1080 with the EK block was only about 100 more but I was trying to cut the cost a wee bit and I don't do.. serioussss gaming, but in the end, I may go for a 1080. That's towards the end of the purchase list so I have time to figure it out.. But thanks, i'll take a look at those, pretty sure i've looked at a couple of them already. I'm flexible on 240 vs 360 but I do know I wanna run two rads
  5. Hey there guys! So, i'm looking for.. not really advice but more opinions really. I have some quite specific requirements for a case I want and i'm having trouble finding one that reallllly hits these. I need the case to have: - Full or nearly full acrylic or glass (prefer TG cuz.. awesome..) side panel so the internals are completely visible. - There needs to be room for ~ 2 240/280 360/380 radiators ~ A sizable reservoir - I want a covered PSU - Needs to be very cable management friendly - Needs to be relatively big, more than likely only full towers will work with the amount of cooling i'm putting in I think that's most of the main things i'm looking for. I'm trying to make a good looking case, with an open view to the inside to show off the water setup and components in general. I do not care about cost, to a point. I would like to keep the cost under $200, but I am not necessarily limited by that. Just don't recommend a $500 case please I do not care about other peripherals, there will be no 3.5" drives in this (it'll be 10Gb linked to my server) and I have no use for a 5.25" drive so prefer a case that I can remove that and use the room for a radiator or something. Color is not necessarily anything I care about (honestly theres a good chance i'll tear it down and paint it) but I would like it to not have fancy colors, stick to black/white/silver and such. I've been looking at the Thermaltake Core X71 case as it hits everything i'm really looking for.. For reference the system will be something like this, i'm still finalizing my buy list: Intel i7-7700 or i5-7600 (haven't decided yet..) MSI Gaming Pro Carbon z270 GTX 1070 (either EVGA or MSI probably) Custom EKWB cooling setup for CPU and GPU CableMod kit for Corsair RM750i Thanks all for any opinions you have (feel free to steer me to anything different on the internal components as well :-P).
