I recently updated the BIOS on my Z390-A Prime 9700k system to the latest BIOS (v. 1502). I was running a much older version before (from early 2019) but now I'm experiencing an odd situation. I had a manual voltage OC (4.8ghz at 1.28v, level 6 load line calibration with an AVX offset of 2). When I would run Prime 95 version 26.6 (no avx) it would run all cores at 4.8ghz no problem. Now with the newer BIOS and the same settings applied, Prime 95 version 26.6 runs at the AVX clocks only (4.6ghz). The same thing happens with Cinebench R15. In other tasks it does jump to the full 4.8ghz but drops to 4.6 frequently at random (in games etc.) It is the same Windows install and nothing is running in the background. Any ideas as to what might have changed to cause this behavior?

I'm looking for a new PSU and saw that the Bitfenix Whisper is rated highly on this list. Is that including this model (seems like a decent deal - it say Whisper M rather than just Whisper): https://www.newegg.ca/p/N82E16817376005?Description=bitfenix whisper&cm_re=bitfenix_whisper-_-17-376-005-_-Product My main concern is silence as my current PSU is rather loud under load.

I managed to get Cinebench to run on the Geforce Now server. Uses a 36 thread E5-2697 v4 but is limited to 8 threads per VM.

I run a 1070 Ti with a 3770k @ 4.5GHz. on a 1440p display. The only game I have seen my CPU continuously hit 90%+ usage is Assassins Creed Origins. At 1080p maybe there will be a bit of a problem.

Turning off everything in the Power Management Tab seems to have fixed it. Thanks!

Just checked and the system is indeed fully up to date.

I recently upgraded my system to the latest version of Windows 10 Pro. I am experiencing abnormal stutter and rubber banding in games (BF1 and Fortnite is what I have tested so far). This doesn't occur constantly but ever minute or two. I have Windows 8.1 installed along side Windows 10 right now and it does not have this issue at all (same network of course). Checking my ping levels in game show them fluctuating much more than in 8.1. In Windows 8.1 in BF1 my ping is always in the 30-50 range while in Windows 10 it is anywhere from 30 - 100. Both using North American servers (tested multiple ones). Is there some setting in Windows 10 that needs to be changed?

First, my specs: i7 3770k @ 4.5 GHz Asus Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard XFX R9 280 16 GB of mixed DDR3 ram Seasonic M12II 620W PSU Various hard drives and SSD's See the video here (turn the volume up loud - my phone didn't pick it up that well but is very audible in person): https://streamable.com/9cfyl So I have had this PC for awhile (some parts were given to me and others were bought new) and I have mostly ignored this noise until now. It is not from any of the fans in the system as I have stopped each fan individually and the noise still persists. From what I can tell it comes from right around the CPU. The really weird thing is the noise actually continues on for a few minutes after the system is shut down. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Pretty sad a locked i5 is one of the best sellers. That CPU will be irrelevant much quicker and doesn't even have the capability to overclock to help keep it afloat. I really don't trust that Newegg list. FX is a dead platform and there is no way they are selling that many of those still.

There is no chance that those numbers will be accurate. I also expect some fairly large price increases.

I am looking at this monitor: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/yfx9TW/lg-27ud58-b-270-60hz-monitor-27ud58-b It says it has a 250 cd/m² brightness level. Is this a standard brightness level for a monitor? I am wondering if this will be bright enough for use in a well lit room.

Switching from Intel to AMD, OS questions.
Icetrio replied to Ethan_NLHW's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
When installing the OS, only the target drive should be plugged in to avoid confusion. Not to mention Windows creates hidden partitions that can end up on other drives if they are plugged in during install. That can lead to other problems later on. Once in the Windows installer you will want to wipe the drive before installing. The best way of doing this is though the command prompt while in the installer. To do this look here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/library/dn336946.aspx Follow the section that says To manually wipe a drive and convert it to GPT After that proceed through the installer choosing your now blank drive as the target. -
A 1070 would be my ideal option I think. I will hold off a bit longer in hopes that prices will drop a bit. Here in Canada the cheapest 1070 on pcpartpicker is $550 which is a bit more than I want to spend, especially when taxes are factored in. Vega doesn't really seem to be a great option and Volta is apparently quite a ways away.

My R9 280 is struggling to play newer games at 1080p 60 FPS without really turning the settings down. I want to get an upgrade but I feel like this isn't the best time to be buying GPU's. Heat output and power consumption is somewhat of a concern but not a complete deal breaker. I don't want to spend more than $500 CAD. Should I wait or bite the bullet and buy one of the cards on the market now?
