you dont need to get a new PSU.

if you want to get a new PSU for some reason. the SF750 would be the best choice as far as SFX PSUs go, as far as im aware.

atm, the first step is just getting a GPU that is around 700$ or less for near MSRP. (key word: near MSRP)

    so one of these: 3060, 6600xt, 3060ti, 6700xt, 3070/ti, RX 6800.
once you have managed to get one of these near MSRP, then you can order the rest, as the GPU atm will be the hardest component to get near MSRP.

sorry for not being specific with component choices, but given by the time you have managed to get a GPU, new stuff may have arrived on the market, or prices may have changed notably.

and some nitpicking of the other builds mentioned:

If you can get it close to the lowest price, get HX. If the HX is too expensive, get a V850 as the next best thing.

GoldenLag reacted to Spotty in What PSU should i get for a EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3?
Oversizing the power supply can actually be worse for noise. Higher wattage power supplies need more aggressive fans to deal with the extra heat generated at higher loads. Instead of buying a higher wattage power supply it's better to check professional reviews for quiet power supplies. Cybenetics grades power supplies by their noise output.

Seasonic does not manufacture Corsair's power supplies.

Is the Seasonic Prime TX-1300 1300w titanium PSU available? It received its 80+ certification several months ago but it's not currently listed on Seasonic's website or any retailer sites. I can only find the 1300w Platinum and Gold models.

[Good] power supplies are rated to operate continuously at their maximum rated output, with high end power supplies often rated to output their max load at temperatures as high as 50°C. Though do note that Seasonic power supplies are only rated for 100% load at 40°C and only 80% load at 50°C. It's just marketing fluff from Seasonic to put a 50°C temperature rating on a PSU that's really only rated for 40°C, though in review hotbox testing they seem to have no problem running at the full 50°C so I have no idea why they do it the way they do.

Given its a pretty poor group regulated unit, it wouldnt be a suprise if it was the culprit when it came to taking out cards. Granted its doing it a bit faster than what i would expect.

The issue is not wattage, you could use a lower wattage unit and be fine, issue is how good the powersupply is, and what its actually outputting to the hardware.

So either very unlucky, or something else, like the PSU is causing it

The cable between the wall and the PSU?  The electrical cable that is identical pretty much with PSU's, monitors, printers, refrigerators, etc?  Different gauges is all.

I guess then for the past 30 years I've gotten lucky.

    could you clarify this point?

if you mean daily driver means you have a GPU aswell. meaning it is possible, but it will require some trickery.

Ryzen consumer has 20 PCIe lanes where 4 are dedicated to nvme and 16 to the slots.

if you use PCIe 16x slot for the m.2 card (in 16x mode) it will allow for the use of all m.2 devices.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/M-2-NGFF-NVMe-M-Key2280-To-PCIe-3-0-4x-Riser-Card-Cable-PCI-Express/32833359557.html

then you will need to use this to get the GPU to run in 4x from the m.2 slot that is directly fed from the CPU. this will mean some performance loss.

Would a small formfactor system like a Asus PN50/PN51 be desirable?

Small footprint while offering quite good office and regular usage performance.

You can get such systems fully configured, or as Barebones to add memmory and storage.

    Edit: https://www.amazon.com/PN50-BBR065MD-Renoir-R5-4500U-USB3-1-Barebone/dp/B08TGXXGMK/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=PN50&qid=1624396918&sr=8-3

As an example, just add memmory and storage and you have a very neat small formfactor machine

Oh I dunno; simple things like a board that doesn't throttle itself, a power supply capable of handling more than just an APU, a full-size ATX formfactor for expandability, a current-gen processor that'd be okay for more than just basic HTPC work in 2021. Things that would keep it out of a landfill in the future.

if you read the legend, you can quite clearly see it in tier C

Ripple isnt good, but its not "very bad"

in the review you provided, it is specifically shown that UVP works.
review didnt really test beyond 120%. Now since the CX650M has a OPP set at 130%, and the CXM shuts down due to UVP before reaching 130%. I can only guess OPP sits higher than the 120% they tested. Especially since afaik these two units share the same plattform. Holdup time isnt good tho, but its a Tier C powersupply, its not really perticularly good.

Well, Asus sells Focus and Prime rebrands (mostly). Typically the same or more expensive than other Focus or Prime rebrands, and for the price they typically arent that nicely priced compared to other offerings.
