Not all downloads from launchers are direct streamed in sequential downloads.
Some decompression and unpacking can be involved making you CPU/Disk speed bound with some download launchers.

SkilledRebuilds reacted to Uttamattamakin in Nothing, Forever a AI generated, Twitch Streamed endless Seinfeld like sitcom. GPT is slowly coming for video creators.
    Summary
A project using GPT 3 to generate a mildly humorous Seinfeld like sitcom that goes on forever and is about nothing.   It is complete with blocky low res animation.  This shows the potential of AI generated VIDEO CONTENT  https://www.twitch.tv/watchmeforever

It had a really meta moment where it joked about inventing itself.

    Quotes
My thoughts (you know my opinions that don't need to be factual.)

This semester I am teaching a math class for people who are not going in to STEM fields.  I have a lot of film and media creation students in class.  I actually caught one of them scrubbing through the timeline of a video they were editing during class.  I had to make them close the laptop and pointed out that their film teacher wouldn't want them doing math in film class.  I mentioned this because we were discussing Chat GPT in class.  The potential the technology has to replace various kinds of lite knowledge work.  I speculated, not knowing about this shows existence, that someday someone would create an AI that would generate tv shows.  No actors, directors, camera men, just AI for the whole thing.

They said "No never".  I can't wait to show them them this LOL.

We already know that people will watch animated characters in surprising circumstances.  For example there was /is a cam girl whose whole act was done in VR Chat and streamed out on cam girl sites.  I can see even that kind of media being replaced with AI

As for the actual show... having watched it it has given me some genuine laughs.  Admittedly the biggest one was when I found out the first name of the Kraemer character... Zoltan.  I don't know why that name makes me laugh but it sounded enough like Cosmo while also being legally different enough to not get sued.

How long before we see a never ending AI generated Wan show that just takes an RSS feed of various tech news sources, and GPT3 or 4 trained on things Linus and Luke have said in the past?  Why not an AI generated MKBHD or Mr Beast? I can see 24 hour news going this way.  It feels like an inevitability.   Maybe not in 10 years but in 50.

SkilledRebuilds reacted to just_dave in The amount of (seemingly intentional) misinformation in LTT and ShortCircuit content about anything made by Apple (and featuring Alex) is alarming
Before I get called a fanboy - I do use Apple products and enjoy it very much. But I am also a developer and especially on macOS, there are many, many problems that need to be highlighted and addressed. These products/platforms are not perfect and criticism is necessary. But misinformation that is intentionally misleading is definitely not.

I hope I am not the only one, and I think the last ShortCircuit video proved it, as the now-pinned comment contains many replies sharing the same feeling.

Over the last year or so, I noticed a very strong trend in almost all LTT and ShortCircuit videos where incorrect specifications are stated/presented or completely dumb assumptions are being made.

It makes it seem that either the writers for these videos are completely stupid and incapable of actual research and writing, or it's being done intentionally to drive interaction and views.

Let me give a few examples with timestamps:

    1. Mac Studio SSD Swap video at 9:30 - 9:50 ish. Alex says that macOS recovery has been removed and it's not longer possible to reinstall the OS etc. and Linus reacts to it by saying how badly Apple treats their customers.

What even is that? Did anyone with IQ over 80 spend more than 30 seconds working on that video script? This literally takes 5 seconds to Google: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/intro-to-macos-recovery-mchl46d531d6/mac

    2. Mac Users Deserve Better  - at 6:12 - 7:20 Alex here just straight up says that the single external display support on M1/M2 is a software limitation and that the Thunderbolt 3 ports can support more than external display physically. It actually isn't true at all, because the external display hardware exists for only 1 display output on the M1/M2 die. Proving this is hard (as of now), because Hector Martin (the developer of Asahi Linux for Apple Silicon) has since deleted his Twitter (because of Musk) and his tTwitter account had all of this information documented (AT THE TIME OF RELEASE OF THE VIDEO WOULD COME UP IN REGULAR SEARCHES ON THIS TOPIC) along with die shots, die layout estimation etc. However, he posted it on hackernews, so there is only this comment thread available https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32175939

    3. Windows doesn't have an answer - 15:01 webcam comparison, again the video is terribly written with incorrect specs for the webcams and Alex making a big deal out of it (I understand you need clickbait views).
This time people corrected it and it was actually pinned, so that's at least some improvement.

Linus and Alex always say how they want to perform in-depth testing for products, how they want to share transparent results and be the trusted place for consumers to come for information about what products to buy.
Well, this definitely doesn't inspire any confidence in that.

They are for 125w parts.... 65 watt parts the temps don't spike to 100*c but more 70-80*c, they might be considered a little noisy at load, but if it saves you money for a better GPU, you can do that and replace the fully working but little loud CPU cooler at a later time to a Hyper212 tower cooler, many brands have copied the Hyper212 design, many competing aftermarket coolers would suit, but at first you might not even need them..

Free roam is expansive, you can jump and climb up to various areas and locations.
The map opens up a great deal after some missions/tasks are complete.

You can't enter all buildings, many locked doors stay locked, but exploration around buildings and climbing buildings is there, can get some great photos climbing up to a place ypu shouldn't be for a great shot.

Its open world, with a fair amount of locked doors (looking at the whole map)
You can still spend plenty of time just looking around, climbing and exploring though.

I'm not going to comment on the build, because everyone else have done so.
But the I HATE Intel part is just uncalled for, especially after seeing your ideal build list, it is clear that you don't even know enough about hardware, yet you hate on a specific brand.
Both Intel and AMD are profit driven, neither of them are your friend, it's just Intel has been worse than AMD.
But, look at the product, not the company, 12th gen and 13th gen i3s and i5s are so good for their price point, AMD left the budget segment, and Intel swoop in to secure the market.
AMD's 7000 series so far has been more anti-consumer than Intel has been with their 12th and 13th gen.

Which a 4070ti would absolutely shred anyhow.  And that's a single game that has legendarily bad performance on any hardware.  That little cherry isn't a great pick for the general focus of what I'm saying, and you know it.  If OP specified Cyberpunk, I'd take that into consideration, and still not recommend the 4090.  Especially when the lists OP originally posted had either a 4070ti or a 6800.  To recommend an $1800 GPU to a first-timer when that wasn't even in the original conversation, as if you were proposing to them something that would be a better value based on one's matured knowledge of value is ridiculous.

There are a lot of problems with this parts list.  A lot of this stuff is either useless or is not good enough for what you want, so I'm just gonna give you a fresh pitch for a good gaming computer based on your needs and budget:

This will get you gaming as fast as that $2800 system for over $1200 less without any issues.
8-core CPU that way faster than you'd need for 4k gaming with a 4070ti 4070ti for ultra fast 4k gaming 280mm AiO with good fittings and fans 32GB of RAM, more than enough for gaming and streaming.  3600MHz should match the infinity fabric on the 5700x (which is the exact smae chip as the 5800x, just a different base clock which you can change in the BIOs. 2TB Gen 4 drive Wifi motherboard with all the features you'd ever need High-end 850w PSU (A-Tier) Case that has good airflow and includes RGB fans Don;t buy windows that way.  Just get a key for $15 online
Why?  There's still no real benefit to gaming with DDR5, and especially not at 4K.  The socket is fine, Ryzen 5000 CPUs are still blazing fast, and at 4k it REALLY doesn't matter at all, there's 0 benefit to Ryzen 7000 at 4k and it costs way more.  Upgrade path is a complete meme.  No one should be upgrading a CPU often enough to reuse a motherboard, and by the time OP would want a new system, DDR5 RAM will be probably half the price it is now, so that's not even an 'investment' in reusability anyway, considering how much DDR5 costs right now for no real benefit.

I could watch the RAM increase in realtime while writing to the DR-LESS SSD, it could be a few gig extra RAM use at times, slowly climbing, then falling, then rising, then falling, meanwhile, the average response time (shown in task manager looking at drive stats) the response times get into the 'seconds' not milliseconds. (1000-4000ms) response times when active.
Just not ideal whatsoever for a Boot Drive where you are likely also Multitasking... or trying to.
Maybe its MY USE case, or even MY drive in question vs someone elses dramless drive without much issue. (Not all drives ARE equal is true)
I am just explaining what I saw over time using it as I do.

Networking Quality has so many factors that go into it.... it would take a long time to explain each and every link in the network chain and how each link on the path could potentially be a problem at some point...
Even if everything was identical (very unlikely ever), the ISP would then be a factor (they notice a link in the chain is weird, they could then adjust something hence different results again)
