  1. Hi, The fans are connected straight to the motherboard and are 3 pin DC fans, using HWinfo it didn't really show clearly if they were slowing down or speeding up (numbers were varying up and down) but seeing as its not causing any issues and I thought it might have been PSU related, I wont worry about it. Its good to know not to worry about the PSU, thanks for the help
  2. Hi, I've recently started to worry that there is something wrong with my computers PSU. With the CPU and GPU under a constant load, the reported voltage for the motherboards 12v sensor according to HWinfo seems to vary erratically. I know its normal for the PSUs voltage to drop when its under a load but the fact that is seems to be swaying around so much seems to suggest that something is wrong. I logged 5 minutes of data from HWinfo while my computer was running folding@home to create some quick graphs in excel to show what I've found. The same behaviour can also be created while gaming however. My computers key specs are: -i5 8400 -GTX 970 overclocked slightly -ASUS H370-I motherboard -Corsair VS550 Orange label PSU From doing some research, I know my PSU is fairly well known for being poor quality but what I'm wondering is if the PSU should urgently be replaced or whether its safe to keep using. Other things that might be interesting to know is with the case fans set to 100%, the pitch of the sound they make reduces when something GPU intensive is opened suggesting they all slow down slightly. My motherboards built in sound also recently stopped working properly - not sure if this is PSU related but its not a huge problem.
  3. Hi, Recently I bought an old acer all in one that happens to have a 23" 1080p 120Hz refresh rate. The internal screen itself is powered by a sata connector and uses a dvi cable and I was going to use it just as a monitor but I've found that the screen has some fairly deep scratches. I've tried a magic eraser, tooth paste and a normal pencil eraser which has had little to no effect. After looking around a bit, some people have tried to remove the anti-glare coating on their monitors and have had varying levels of success. Would it be a good idea to try this? Or is their anything else I could try to remove the scratches. Also if i did remove the anti-glare coating, how would i protect the now bare panel? While I like this idea, after seeing a picture of a dell ultrasharp with a ruined polariser (patch of distorted colours), I feel that this would be pretty risky to do. The physical LCD panels model is: LG lm230wf4 tl a1
  4. CPU temperatures are looking normal at around 60 degrees under load. I could get him to try the video. I'm just a bit worried about how the computer started beeping and refused to post but them started working again. Seems like something is beginning to die in the system.
  5. Hi guys, One of my friends has recently came to me for help with his computer. Recently, his Acer Predator G3 710 has done the following: A few days ago, it froze while playing Planet Coaster, he held the power button but then the system refused to POST and would begin to beep rapidly. Eventually with out doing anything, it started up again. I ran Memtest for him which reported no issues. The following day it froze again but this time restarted fine. Then, I got him to run Prime95 and Furmark at the same time which caused the computer to freeze. Upon rebooting, he repeated with just Prime95 which ran fine. He then ran furmark which is when he realised his GPU temperature had peaked at 91 degrees. We concluded that this could be to blame and decided that it would be best for him to add some fans to his case as none were installed by Acer originally and then to see if the system was stable for a while. However, today, the computer had a BSOD with the error code: Kernel_Security_Check_Failure. The computer was just sat at idle when this happened. By this point I'm not sure what to do and really need some help to get his computer up and running. He has had the computer just over a year and was refurbished when bought. The specs of the system are as follows: -i5 6400 -1 x DDR4 8GB stick of RAM -GTX 970 -Samsung 860 evo ssd -2TB seagate hard drive Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hi, To test the memory, I just used the built in windows memory diagnostics tool. I will update the BIOS and test the memory again using memtest86.
  7. Hi, Over the past half a year, the computer I assembled back in 2016 has been having numerous issues. Running up to recent weeks, the computer would occasionally crash and freeze for no reason (this has not happened in a while though) but also there would be strange glitches such as programmes randomly freezing. In the past two weeks, the computer would sometimes fail to post with a message saying "The system has POSTed in safe mode" ( i will attach a picture of the whole screen). Looking around, this pointed to a RAM issue but after running a memory test, no problems were found. I also read that a bad power supply could cause this. My power supply is a corsair VS550 which I understand is regarded as being awful. What I am wondering is first of all, could it be a power supply fault (I can only monitor voltages using the motherboard as I have nothing else to use) they fluctuate between 11.7 and 12.1 depending on load and if it is, would I need to provide evidence to corsair to claim the warranty. Could the issue be motherboard related too. The screen on the boot up warning says the "press F1 to run setup" but this only results in a black screen. The BIOS can be accessed on a normal boot though. The specs of my PC are: -i3 6100 -Asus H110m-a motherboard -Gigabyte GTX 1050 ti -Basic 2x4gb hyperx DDR4 2133Mhz ram -Samsung 860 evo SSD and WD blue 1TB HDD -Corsair VS550
  8. I'll give under volting a try, hopefully this should fix the issue. Thank you!
  9. Hi, I have a Toshiba Kira-109 with an i5 5200u and have realised that the CPU is getting very hot when under any load. Using MSI afterburner to get an idea of temperatures, i have noticed that the hottest core can exceed 90C when doing something intensive such as gaming. I don't game on the laptop often but its still concerning. I have tried replacing the thermal compound and have cleaned the laptop but this has not made much of a change. Is it possible that a temperature sensor could be defective or that the heatsink has some form of internal defect? I know that high temperatures are bad but what are the implications of temperatures this high, even if it is only for a few seconds before dipping back to the high 80s. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  10. Thanks for all the help, I'll avoid the 6400 and save some more.
  11. Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. I have looked at the 6700/7700 but I didn't really want to spend that much (£260ish). I just thought that if I sell my i3 for £70, I wouldn't have to spend that much money.
  12. Hi, There is the possibility of me being able to get an i5 6400 for £130 (175 USD) but the question I have is, is it worth it? I can sell the i3 to reduce the amount of money I have to spend on it but will I notice a performance increase? My system currently has a 1050 ti and 8GB RAM but I have found the i3 lack of cores is ruining my gaming experience. However, the i5 is clocked significantly slower than the i3 so will this reduce my performance? Games I often play are: Battlegrounds, GTA 5, Beamng.drive, Just Cause 3 and Forza Motorsport 7. Thank you.
  13. I did wonder about the gpu issue but most people who have had a computer suffer from this issue had more of a response from their laptop such as the startup chime, but mine does not do this. I guess its still possible though.
  14. As far as I'm aware, there is a circuit board on the left that handles power, some inputs and charging which the hard drive is connected to which then connects to the motherboard. This board also provides power to the motherboard. So do you think its possible it could be this?
  15. The laptops condition is okay, has some cosmetic damage in certain places but everything is connected internally from looking briefly. I may later try and take apart the laptop to see if anything has come disconnected.
