  1. Budget (including currency): 1000-1500 Country: Europe (Italy) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Photoshop, Rhinoceros, Unreal Engine, Cinema4d w/ Vray. occasional gaming Hello, with the new GPU releases i went a bit on a hype for a new graphics card, but i'm struggling to find the perfect match for my needs. Currently i have a 9900k with a quadro P4000, i do some light photoshop works and mostly 3d modeling and rendering for architectural purposes (Cinema4d w/ v-Ray, Rhinoceros, Unreal Engine, Blender) and occasional gaming. I'm interested into raytracing performance over common rasterization due to my work needs and workflow, so until last week i was trying to grab a 3080 o 3090 on ebay without too much price increase over base, 3090 have the least increase but the base price it's a bit of a stretch for me (1800+ €). Extra ram it's good but from what i saw/listened/read 3090 will not benefit from workstation applications optimized drivers like the previous titans. that's a bummer. Also, i think that those application will not benfit from DLSS so that it's out of the equation. Now with the AMD launch i was very pelased from the offerings of 6800xt and 6900xt from a price standpoint and for the extra ram (over the 3080) however the benchmarks for raytracing performances were not shown or somewhat hidden (the unspecified AMD RNA2 GPU from the benchmark footnotes with the 400ish fps on D3DX12 raytracing -source: https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/rdna-2 -source: https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-ray-accelerator-appear-to-be-slower-than-nvidia-rt-core-in-this-dxr-ray-tracing-benchmark) or possibly misleading due to being a composite benchmark with rasterization and raytracing (-source: https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/10/31/amd-radeon-rx-6800-beats-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3070-in-shadow-of-the-tomb-raider-4k-wqhd-even-with-ray-tracing-enabled-dlss-off/ - source: https://twitter.com/PJ_Lab_UH/status/1322463479417040896) and the two result that were leaked/shown are opposite one tho the other (D3DX12 not good, Shadow better then 3070). So i'm a little bit confused. What do you suggest?

  3. So to recap, in the current configuration 30c idle 97c prime95 (5min), 77c handbrake (10min)
  4. Yes the two big fan are down and the noctua is up The second "metal" slot is only x8, however i'll try! Thanks!
  5. Sure, i put it into the recommended orientation but turning it is no biggie. Everything is brand new, no dust and clear path in front of the fans.
  6. x2 180mm intake, x1 120mm + x1 135mm on tower cooler, x1 120mm exhaust
  7. thanks you all for the replies and advices ! i'll keep you posted
  8. i liked the case and it's based on air cooling, so i trued with a beefy one, however noctua nh-d15 dosent fit, maybe i could try a termalright no game yet, l'll try cinebench/blender 'cose i think that the most demanding workload in this will be 3d rendering I was hoping to avoid the lapping and voltage tweaking but seams imprescindible.. maybe i can squeeze a bonus couple of hundreds of mhz
  9. Hello everyone! Yesterday i completed my 2nd pc build, a new workstation after the first 8years ago. The parts are: Intel 9900k Gigabyte Aorus z390 pro wifi Corsair 2x16Gb 3200mhz CL16 Samung 970 Evo 1TB Nvidia Quadro P4000 Silverstone 850w Gold Everything is placed into a Silverstone FT05 case and the cpu is cooled by a BeQuiet DarkRock Pro4. Cable management i think is good , leaving as less cable as possible on the front section of the case to assure a free path to the 180mm fans. System at idle is dead silent with fans at 600ish rpm. First boot detects everything, windows installs in a pinch, all seams fine...time to do some test. Hardware Monitor shows 38°C at idle, and then i fire up prime95 to do some stress ( i choose the first stress test option) fans go full blast in a second and after 5-10 second CPU package is at 95-97°c with all cores into the 90s and one core fixed at 84°c. I left it there for a 10 minutes or so, nothing changed 97c and 4700mhz on all cores stable. When i stopped the stress test temperatures fell into 2-3 seconds to idle temps. After this poor performance i disassembled the cooler and cleaned the ihs and cooler with alcool and paper towels, re-placed the cpu looking for bent pins that maybe could lead to misread temps (everything fine on the socket) and then i reinstalled the cooler. i noticed that the cooler coldplate had two little protusions (like a little dust/sand grain) and the ihs has two matching little scratches (2-3mm from the edge of the ihs) that weren't before. However i repasted the cpu with a Noctua paste siringe that i had laying around from the last year (i repasted the old workstation), mount back the cooler and retested, but nothing changed (maybe 1 degree lower). Last note, idle temp with cpu fans at full speed is 28°. What could it be? If needed i'll post some picures (time to disassembly once more) Thanks for reading!
  10. Awesome. Thank you, i will look for your advices!
  11. Lol. Right view distance? I'll start to dig round!
