  1. so, did anybody get "Discrete Device Assignment" working on a ASUS "P9X79-E WS" MOBO or any other x79 chipset?
  2. Hi, i'm traying to get PCI-e passthrough working. I have it (VT-d) enabled in BIOS. The hardware supports it. When i order Hyper-V to attach my HBA to my VM it says i need to enable VT-d in BIOS. i tried all possible settings variations in BIOS settings, everything is updated. i still can't get it to work. Did anybody successfully use VT-d on ASUS P9X79-E WS MOBO?
  3. in the past, they were uploaded one a week. If I'm not mistaken.
  4. I would legit pay 15$CAD to get immediate access to the rest of the Scrapyard Wars 7 so that I can binge watch it. Great content guys.
  5. FYI, the website is online right now... https://www.ncix.com/
  6. The big question is if you have a line of sight. if you can optically see from point A to B. then wireless 5Ghz PtP link will be easiest to implement, no digging trenches, no running cables. and it will be less expensive than buying 1000' of cable. you could run it over copper with a VDSL2 bridge or fibre. in both cases, you need to invest in modems or a switch that can accept SFP inserts. Wireless will be the least expensive if you have a clear line of sight. if you get me the GPS coordinates from Google I could run a simulation of the wireless link.
  7. Hey Guys, Here is my video entry to the #ROGRigReboot contest. Sorry for the speed up voice at the end, I had to squish it in to the 60s mark to qualify… Here are some benchmarks. Personally, I find it amazing that even tough I built this rig over 10 years ago: it still works (ASUS makes great MOBO’s). Yes, I had to do some minor upgrades, but that is expected with any rig. What would be even more awesome is: if I win the contest. In addition, September 8 is my 25th birthday, that would make once in a lifetime present. Flying down to build a new rig with your crew would be a once in a lifetime experience. I never went any where west of Toronto since arriving in Canada 14 years ago. This rig handles most AAA games in the 15-25 FPS range on Ultra LOooWwwwww settings. But unfortunately, anything built on Unity crashes way too much to be playable. The unreal engine is a bit more forgiving. It seems like, back in 2010, when my PSU broke and fried my GPU it did more damage then what I saw. Ever since it never worked as well. It always gives me some trouble. getting gradually worse and worse. Because I’m still in university (studying bachelor of construction engineering) I do not have the budget to build a new rig. I have been watching the LTT YouTube channel for a while but I never considered joining the forum. That is: until two weeks ago, when I decided to allocate a little budget to squeeze the last remaining juice from my rig. See thread: In conclusion, I don’t know if I fully deserve to win this contest. I feel like I could have take a better care of my rig and avoided some of the mishaps. (I did buy a UPS since my PSU blew because of faulty building wiring) But, I guess we all learn from our mistakes. One thing that I know for sure is that my rig needs a #ROGRigReboot and that you can help me. ASUS and LTT, Thank you for the contest, for your consideration and your time. Keep up the good work! -Art P.S. I apologize if I look a bit sleepy in the video, it was way to late at night when I recorded it. I meant to re do that part but I didn’t have enough time.
  8. sorry to hear about your loss. i guess that in this case: both of us should consider joining the contest.
  9. lol, i think anyone can "find" something worse. i have my pc from when i first moved in to canada 14 years ago sitting at the back of my closet collecting dust asking to be dusted off. lol. is yours a daily driver like mine?
  10. the one in the LGA775 thread i posted last night. you sugested i do the 771 mod.
  11. is it as bad as mine? lol. i should seriously consider joining this contest...
  12. The mobo is the ASUS P5K it is on the P35 chip... i dont remember why i don't have 8GB in there... but it would still be DDR2... i know that the Mobo i have is very OC-able. i would just need patience... i know that it supports out of the box DDR2 1066MHz. my ram is already running in 1066MHz. first time hearing about it, it seems really interesting. i'm open to that. i have confidence that i can make it work and do what i need it to do. in 3 years i'll do a real WS build and move it to my office and bring back home my i7-3970X rig. What i will do is: run full diagnostics. i'm thinking start with testing CPU, then RAM, then ... i need some guidance. i imagine running prime95+ for testing the CPU and memtest for the RAM? 13. i never took the time to look into the L3 cache importance. i'm wondering if i'm wasting my time trying to Frankenstein this thing back to life... (well, better life)
  14. i was contemplating the Q9650... they seem quite inexpensive used...
