2SidedPolygon reacted to SupaKomputa in Is Asus rx 580 cooler compatible Sapphire rx 580 ?
If the fans are working, just use anything to make it stick. Zip tie, tape etc.
Probably better using the factory cooler than aftermarket.

Several leaked benchmarks suggest that the 3950X beats the 10920X by a significant margin. As for overclockability, you're not going to be reaching Intel-level speeds anytime soon, but the process itself should be relatively similar, essentially just tweaking voltages and clock speeds until you have something stable. No real recommendation for the SSD, just try to get whatever has the lowest price/gigabyte at the time of purchase, and go for NVMe if it's important (Which it probably won't be but up to you).

There is probably a flash drive or external drive plugged in that its trying to boot from. Find it, unplug it, then restart. Hopefully that helps!

2SidedPolygon got a reaction from Sauron in Intel Core i9-10980XE Cascade Lake-X CPU Can Hit Lofty 5.1GHz Overclock Across All 18 Cores
I wouldn't get too excited. Firstly, a comparison against last-gen silicon is useless. The 3900X performs better in most of the Geekbench scores I found (https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/search?utf8=✓&q=ryzen+9+3900x, I'd guesstimate around 15%-20% based on these numbers), and with significantly higher power efficiency, more than likely. Regarding those overclocks, I wouldn't be inclined to trust Intel's own statistic, and I certainly wouldn't be inclined to claim that if the overclocks are X% faster, then the performance is X% better.

And let's not even get started on the price tag. This isn't a mainstream processor, this is an Extreme chip. I'd expect some eye-watering numbers, even in light of the recent 7nm shortages.

So don't get ahead of yourself, 10th gen isn't shaping up to be Intel's big break.

USB support is different, otherwise nothing limited by the chipset

Gigabyte Aorus boards are definitely much stronger in power delivery than even the Z390-F, while Asrock Phantom 6 gives better troubleshooting features (post code display). Dont see the point of going Asus on Z370 nor Z390 (except the Apex and Gene)

2SidedPolygon got a reaction from KlipGans in Is RTX a real value add?
The GPUs trade blows in terms of performance, and the RTX feature suite arguably adds very little value, so I'd  go with whatever you can get a good card with for a lower price, unless one performs better in a game you care about.

Un-plug and re-plug in all your PCI-E riser cables. If that doesn't fix it, contact Silverstone and say you believe you have a faulty riser. They should send you a new one.

2SidedPolygon got a reaction from star_pilot475 in Best way to make money over the summer with computers?
Risky business, not much profit. If you want to make money with computers, your best bet is repair. I'm 15 and have decent money repairing computers in my neighborhood, and depending on where you live you might be able to get a lot of business. Repair often costs hundreds of dollars that people don't want to pay, so, as a teenager, you can just get in there at a really low price and fix all the computers people don't want to cough up a couple Benjamins for.

2SidedPolygon reacted to LogicWeasel in Slight confusion on Motherboard standoffs
Yes you should feel compelled to use standoffs.  The standoffs are there to keep the bottom of your motherboard (it's full of metal traces/contacts and solder'y bits that connect things) from touching case metal and shorting, causing a nice flash with a burning smell and a motherboard (along with maybe other stuff) that fried.

The standoffs typically come with the case but if you lost yours or didn't keep them from the case when it was new, they're very cheap to buy, so go do that (online like amazon or local computer store maybe even a BestBuy would have 'em).
