  1. Yep, I know, tried on Ebay, craigslist, ebay, new egg, all the strange big volume sellers or specialists. It tried them all. nothing has come up. then again it's been like 7 years. It's the same thing with old cars. You have to have a bit of luck A.
  2. I forgot to mention. it's dual CPU system. and I'm running on a 1000W be quiet PSU
  3. Intel Xeon X5365 - socket 771 LGA @3Ghz fam. 6/model F/stepping B rev. G0 4 cores/ 4 threads 32Gb of DDR2@332.1Mhz MB: HP 0A08h chipset:intel 5000X rev. 12 - southbridge: intel 6321ESB rev 09 graphic card GTX1070 DDR5 8Gb no way of modifying the multiplier, clock care speed, bus speed in the BIOS no way of OCing the board via software (won't accept it) any ideas?
  4. hello! Does anybody low where i can find a Intel D5400XS motherboard? it's the last piece of my puzzle . for the moment all the other bits are on a HP xw8400 workstation MB and I can't OC the damn thing ^^ I just spent a ton of money on cooling and I can't OC the MB...facepalm... A.
  5. intel XTU tells me that my platform isn't Ocable... bugger, that will teach me to not do my research properly. oh eel can always use the modern components on the next build ^^
  6. Greetings again! Once again unto the fold my fellow silicon addicts... ahhheeeeemmm, Ladies, and Gentlemen I have stumbled on perhaps a big problem. The last hurdle so to speak, after getting over finding the right parts, the right bios update, the right coolers (air coolers) It seems that I can't over clock my HP xw8400... unless somebody has the way of getting to the advanced bios elements? I've been through dozens of forums, articles and posts all seem to point to one thing. HP did't want you to change their specs or change their settings on the MBs since the MBs where generally not that good. Yet, How did they set up the boards in the factory?? There has to be a way of changing some specs on the bios?? are there any HP specialists in the LTT crowd that could help?? Thanks! A.
  7. don't know as of yet. first need to get that graphics card on the mother board. still debating on what to get. I think i'll go for the GTX1070 although I suspect it will bottle neck hard. then again, I'm looking for continuity so this GC will probably be in my next build as well.
  8. well, errrr i don't, wife was out of town so I colonised the kitchen makes it all the easier to get a beer too the one thing I learned on this build: patience. you need a truck load of it just not to strangle people talking out of their proverbial backsides. And even if some forum tells you it can't be done. unless the tech support page from the MB maker tells you otherwise. keep digging, you will find the solution.
  9. greetings silicon lovers ^^ After seeing the old (very old) video on youtube on using workstation grade components with 2K $ cpus from the past costing 50$ , about the equivalent worth in ram, basically i maxed out the MB with the fastest ram it could take for 50$ and I even bought for good measure another set of CPUS for 50$ (they came in pairs, and i could have bought a lot of 20 for 25$ but they where not paired up sooooo, I didn't want to troubleshoot for a month trying cpus out ). As our story goes, I got a old HP xw8400 from 2012 at the office. The old work horse was going on it's way out to the dumpster and I wanted to try out LTT's thing with old Xeons on the cheap. it had just one cpu, so I got a pair of cpus to try to give the thing a bit of a bite, nothing like the recent pcs of course, just a bit of tech related fun ^^. Strait outta the box so to speak, i reinstalled windows 10 on a samsung SSD and it went without a scratch. all drivers installed no problems. It had it's original 2 gigs of ram and a 3K xeon cpu. One word on cooling, I went of course for noctuas offer on cooling since i wanted the best. took me one month to find and purchase the two fans with the help of noctuas tach support (without which this build would have been impossible). You cannot imagine the amount of bull you get on the interwebs concerning compatibility (THIS GOES OUT TO HP AS WELL, your support site isn't geared up to help people who just want to know the pinout on your MBs... silly hits )And old rads and fans are not common... thank god we have ebay and somewhere people are hoarding old pc parts... (like me) Did a bit of reading and it turns out that flashing the bios to the latest bios version will be mandatory to allow for dual cpus. That was easy, done and done. After getting the ram from Germany, I upgrade the RAM (32 gigs in a set) and....rebooted, no problems, the HP xw8400 nags a bit because it wasn't told it had 16x more memory so I had to go through the bios to reassure the beastie. reboot again and bingo, all is well. Got the cpus a few days later and knowing that just swapping the cpus out wouldn't work so I decide to reinstalled the win10 (again). Did a quick reboot, before, with the new cpus of course to see if the power supply would hold (it did). So i'm thinking , no problems right, if the first time windows 10 installed itself with no human intervention appart from the 'hit any key' the first time around, this time it would be no different... ERRRRRRR! wrong! Anywho, after slap the cpus (intel Xeon X5365) on, and..... bang half a decent install with windows 10... then it goes into melt down, crashing "variably" during installing. no amount of swapping things after that would help. Even went back to the default layout thinking it was a case of bad CPUS or bad RAM (nope and nope). Solution?? try initialling ALL of the previous windows OSes going all the way back to windows 7 RC 64 bit. (And yes I have all of the licenses for them, or got them from windows when they where available). I managed a stable install with said RC version. (GOD BLESS windows RC ^^, why can't they all be that good??? ) So once i had the W7 RC 64 bit, i upgrade to W7 pro and then to W10 home edition (big big mistake). why? cos win10 home edition isn't compatible with dual sockets MBs ... I found that out the hard way (had to fork out another 150$...). After rebooting, upgrading win 10, forcing the nvidia drivers for a quadro 3450 FX (old ones...) to work (nvidia, why you no love 5 year old graphic cards??) bingo! one working pc ^^ muuhahahahahahhahh!!!! ...bathe in the glory of dual xeon, quad core cpus with 32 gigs of ram peasants!... my old rig is faster.... face palm.... yeah well I knew that, i just wanted to see if I could pull it off. which I did The one question which still is on my mind: go with a GTX 1070 or a RX 580?? Last hurdle: Swapping out the 800W power unit for a Be silent 1K power unit would allow me to put in a GTX1070 strix or a RX580. Oh and a ton of Noctua fans too. air cooling the monster is a bit of a hassle, but fun ^^ just borrowed a cylinder saw to cut holes into the case. You will not believe the thickness of HP's system cases... jesus , they build them like freaking tanks. Hopefull I'll get not too much of an over kill with the Graphics. in any case I'll be using the card in the next rig sooooo, might as well go bonkers A.
  10. thx! I was looking at http://www.cwc-group.com/446358001.html finally went for the moment for a genuine HP piece off ebay from England. Think I might just upgrade to a water block for the CPUS ^^
  11. nope 771 coolers! NH-U12DX to be precise. Or any other model as long as they are LGA771s. yes this is going back into time !! A.
  12. Greetings people! I'm looking to buy / acquire Socket LGA771 heatsinks. I've gone through soooo many sites and nada, zip. I really want to get noctuas. but can't seem to find any. So What to do? is there any way to use something else?? Any ideas?
  13. indeed, ever so slight. Have you seen the state of the market for graphic cards for the moment. All most all my usual sellers have no stock. strange isn't it?
