The modem could be overheating. Do you have any other WIFI devices to test with with it?
A phone and a laptop.
-
I think it's the wifi adaptor. I used to use the same model, had consistant slowdowns and network drops, switched to the overkill of a router in bridge mode, and it no longer drops out.
The thing is only 5 months old, i mean it was only like 30 bucks but still. It only started dropping recently, would you seriously recommend i buy a different adapter as opposed to getting a replacement of this model under warranty?
-
sadly wifi isnt my strong area, sorry man
No worries i'll shoot by troubleshooting and see if they can help.
Thanks for putting my graphics card fears to rest
-
What is the model number of the PCI-E card and modem?
the pcie adapter is a TP-Link TL-WN881ND and the modem is a technicolor tg587n v3
-
I need help determining if my pcie wifi card is messed up, or if its the wireless modem?
When i go to device manager and disable than re-enable my wifi card some times it goes back up to full bars connectivity (were it always used to be until recently), but when i unplug and re-plug my modem the bars also go back up to 100 percent every time. I have no idea what's wrong. -
Is the graphics card loaded when your checking? most modern system will dynamically change the multiplier based on current needs, if i check mine at idle its 1x yet if i check when a game has it pinned its ful 16x
Just tested with tomb raider, seems to be bumping up to 16x when i play games
Well at least it's a non issue now
Don't suppose you'd know how i'd go about determining if my pcie wifi card is messed up, or if its the wireless modem?

Dunno, take a look around?
all i could find was pci slot configuration and that would only let me select 1x or 4x
-
Is the PCIe slot your graphics card is in set to 16x in the BIOS?
Do you know where the option for that would be?
-
My graphics card is in the 16x slot of my motherbord the gigabyte 787x d3h yet no matter what i do cpu-z only shows link width: 1x max supported: 16x
I'm at my wits end, to top it off my pci e wifi adapter is loosing signal strength and seems screwed as well
I have a loud antec 620 watt high current gamer psu, that seems like the fan bearing is screwed up
And to top it all off this PC is only 5 months old FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEONE HELP ME -
What about a manufacturer RMA? Even though, it isnt working how it is supposed to be and you didnt do anything to it so just RMA it...
Hmmm, i think i'll send umart (the retailer) A message and include the video i posted here and ask if it's enough for them to replace it. if it's not i'll go through Antec.
-
The only problem is the online retailer i bought it from has a RTB policy that states: If after testing we find that the product is not faulty or damaged and any fault was caused by you, we will return the product to you and invoice you the processing fee and freight costs to return the product to you.
So if they end up thinking a slight rattle is'nt a big enough problem they could end up charging me money. -
I would never recommend opening a power supply if you dont know what youre doing because
- Voids warranty
- Risked electric shock and/or ESD
- Destroy other components inside of it
So i would just not take the risk and RMA it. Youll get a brand new or refurbished one that will work like new. And most likely keep your warranty.
Yeah i don't think I'm savvy enough to open and fix a power supply. So just to be clear, you do think it's worthy of RMA?
-
So I've had this power supply for 5 months (the antec high current gamer 620watt) and it was basically wispier quiet for the first couple of months, but then the fan started getting louder. It didn't bother me that much but it was annoying for something that new to be sounding like that. Anyway i left it and it's only gotten worse it's even louder and there is a permanent slight rattle, I've included a video to show what i mean.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgiGEEl_95I
So my question is should i RMA it? would they accept this as a reason to return it? I've only been a pc gamer for 5 months so I've never had to return anything. -
Okay so two weeks ago i finally built my first pc the specs are
i5-4670k cooled by a cooler master hyper 212 evo
8 gigs of g.skill ram at 1600mhz
Sapphire r9 290 Tri X edition
gigabyte ga-z87x-d3h
antec 620w high current gamer power supply
and it's all in a define r4 with only the fans that came with the case.
A samsung 840 evo ssd (i also have a 2tb hdd)
I'm currently gaming at 1440p and want to get the most out of my hardware. Everything is still at stock speeds as i have absolutely no idea where to begin learning about over clocking, you guys probably get asked about a million times on this forum so i sorry if this is the millionth and 1 time but can you tell me which componets i should overclock first? Does it make a difference? I have Trixx and furmark installed, but i'm not exactly sure what to do with them, any help you could give me would be appreciated. Ultimately what im asking is...... how the hell do i overclock? -
Out of curiosity, how much do you pay for your internet? I'm paying $50 for 15d/1u but the deal is about to expire (3 days) and I'll have to pay $60. Going to get Comcast if it's available here, which is still a ripoff, but it's better internet at a cheaper price. Like I said, I'm pretty sure I pay more for less despite you being in AU. It's crazy.
To be honest i'm not the one who pays the Internet bill (20 year old still living at home) but i know that my mum has a bundle deal with telstra so her mobile, home phone and Internet are all in one bill. But i will say this, i'd still be willing to bet that you pay less for your Internet. Everything is more expensive here.
-
Don't worry. I live in a part of the U.S. where they sell expensive, crap internet. I probably pay more than you do for equivalent/lower grade internet. They advertise 10mb/s down and nonexistant upload like it's gonna give you 400 more fps at ultra settings on games and download 30gb files in under 10 minutes.
if you have a camera and think it'll be worth it, I don't think people would mind you putting up a build log for this computer .
I actually have somewhat decent Internet speed for my area, especially by Australian standards though they are still laughable to a lot of people. 18.05 Mbps down 0.87 Mbps up.
I'm very much contemplating doing a build log, i figure it's the least i could do by showing you guy's the finished product, considering you basically helped me build it.
-
I think you skimped a bit on the CPU cooler personally. There's loads of options besides the Hyper 212 EVO that perform a bit better.
Edit: Totally apologize for undermining location..
Build looks fine overall, just try to get better deals where you can if you can as with any build .
I wasn't planing on any super extreme overclocking, just a mild overclock to try and eek out more performance. From what i see of the builds here the evo is a very popular cooler in that regard i really don't think i skimped on the cooler, i think i paid what was expected for a system that's somewhat focused on price to performance.
Everyone underestimates the unfairness of Australian prices. The sad truth is there are no better deals.
-
then go Nvidia if you can't wait >_<
Cyrpto mining hasn't affected Australian prices quite like it has US prices. Amd is still far and away better performance per dollar but hey if Nvidia starts lowering prices and starts being more competitive when it comes to the price to performance ratio, then i'll buy a Nvidia card.
-
Just a heads up, Gigabyte recalled all of there 290/290x windforce cards as there was a flaw with the cooler. So they might be out of stock for a while.
....Crap. The Windforce 290 is the only non reference 290 the store has listed. They don't know when they're getting other non reference cards...

I got the same keyboard myself and there is nothing to worry about. So nothing to worry about if you like/need blue switches, likes the looks and want to spend that sort of money on a keyboard
Thanks for the reassurance
So far all i'm hearing is that this is a pretty solid build, so i can't wait to build it.
-
I have no problems with any of that. I personally prefer the Corsair K70 as a keyboard though. Mechanical switches in several flavours, great media keys and solid construction, also personally feel it looks better.
I guess i just wanted it to match my mouse, not to mention it's cheaper.. so there's that.
-
Awesome build , would love to see a build log of some sort.
It could be awhile, the store said that it would take atleast 2 weeks to get the gpu in stock It's still not a 100 percent guarantee i'll get one

So i went to the PC store today and basically ordered these parts, however i am still waiting for the store to get some stock of the R9 290 windforce edition. So as it stands anything on this list of parts i can change so i want to know whether you guy's think i should change anything.
PS: Please note that the GPU listed on my parts list is actually a gigabyte non reference cooler one, but i couldn't find it on pc part picker. And also please note i'm open to suggestions on whether the mouse and keyboard i chose were good options, i also chose a razer mouse pad one of those really long ones that you sit you keyboard on. -
My worry is that they have a shortage of the chips and hold off launching the non reference 290's in Australia so that they have more product for the US. If that happens then i'd have to wait even longer, damn litecoin miners.

I RMA'd it. It's definitely quieter.
