IndioBravo reacted to Mister Woof in RX 5700-xt performance issues on Fallout 76
for fun, did some more tweaking. got my ram to 3466, bumped up the power limit to +20%.
pretty happy with that 405fps cpu max render

Glad I could help you out. It’s not too often on here where you get people with comparable builds that are cool and willing to help someone out. We’ve all been there before and if you need any help in the future feel free to tag me in your post and I’ll help as much as I can.

totally agree - if you ignore the "% GPU bound" numbers and look at the actual result, you're talking about a difference between ~110fps and 100fps. I mean, can you even notice that?
Obiously the FPS lows/frametime will be the most apparent, but still.......is it worth the trouble/money to get an incremental upgrade, or wait a bit?
I'd wait.

Thank you very much @Mister Woof @Gohardgrandpa @i_build_nanosuits and everyone else who helped with this thread.
Many things have been made clear for me and I know what my next steps are.
Stay safe!

seems about right; the 3600x and 8700k are a fair bit stronger than the 2600x. if you run it at 1440p though you'll probably get very similar results

Only 30% of the time your gpu was limiting factor in this bench at 1080p...so 70% of the benchmark was cpu limited....

@Pablo Molina
Your results look right to me. About 10 fps lower then mine and that accounts for the IPC difference going from ryzen 2000 to ryzen 3000.
If I could get this cpu to go higher clock speed I’d be able to compete with @Mister Woof but we know ryzen is at its max out of the box unfortunately

i had to give my CPU a lobotomy though, so there's that.

@Pablo Molina
If I were you I’d wait for the next gen ryzen cpus. Your not that far behind me performance wise. Your system is good and it’s running games fine, I wouldn’t waste money on ryzen 3000.
@Mister Woof
thank you for helping in this thread by providing numbers.

Thanks!
I see, I`ll test it at 1440p just to check, but I think it is pretty much clear that the bottleneck is mostly the CPU.
I am looking to upgrade, but from the little research I`ve made, people recommend to wait for 4th gen AMD, which means I`d have to upgrade my MoBo aswell.

I got the cheapest 5700xt i could get, which is the XFX RAW II. Mine will generally hang around 1900-2000mhz with a P3 state of 2100mhz @ 1175mv. I have the fan set VERY aggressively, as the cooling system pretty much sucks.
With this set up, GPU core temperature isn't an issue; the core never goes above 70c. It's the memory junction temp, which can hit the high 70s, VR VDDC which is the high 60s, and the hottest is the Hot Spot temperature which under heavy load will hang around 85c.
Even though AMD states 110c is within spec 🤣 for the hotspot.....i keep the aggressive curve.
That said, i also tend to run it undervolted at P3 state of 1900mhz @ 1100mv. The oeverall performance difference is under 2-3%, but is much cooler. At this setting, It hangs around 1800-1900mhz.

That is actually a very good idea! I will try it on some games and I will post back the result

I have the Sapphire Pulse, and my clock speeds are very volatile. I hardly see a horizontal straight line with clock speeds.
Depends on the game, on RDR2 I had a somewhat steady clock of 2050mhz, but on LoL for example and FO76 it varies from 800mhz to 1900mhz.
EDIT: it never throttles due to thermal issues, but rather reasons I don`t yet fully understand.

Sometimes cpu cores are just too slow to process fast enough to provide more frames per second...they can be overwhelmed with full usage and be an issue yes...but they can also just be not fast enough when the code is really bad.

IndioBravo reacted to Kilrah in Is Lenovo Legion Y530 Gaming Laptop compatible with Occulus Link?
Pavlov says minimum requirement is a 970, which is 50% more powerful than a 1050Ti. So wouldn't expect much.
VR is mostly GPU bound, CPU is less important.
There is a somewhat cut down standalone version that runs on the Quest itself though (and is free).

IndioBravo reacted to ZzLy in Ryzen 5 2600x bottlenecking RX5700 XT?
It's the games fault for only using 2 cores. Gta 5 is getting pretty old now, it was made back in the day when dual cores were still very common.

Found it! I had it on 60. I reduced it to 40 to see the difference. Thanks!

That’s why I prefer black / rgb edition of that cooler, they using metal clips instead of this plastic ones, plus they look much better in black ?

IndioBravo reacted to Bombastinator in Is this fan compatible with the Evo 212?
Just be careful of the hyper212 side clips if they’re plastic. They tend to break and if even one clip breaks it messes up the whole thing.

Any 120mm fan should work.
