I think that the i7 3770K is fast enough for your 980 Ti.  Do yourself a favor and save that money needed to upgrade.

I'd highly recommend the Xeon E3 1231 V3 over the 4790.  It'll save you a lot of money for the same performance.

One can be Overclocked, (That's what the K means)
It's up to you, Know if you will OC.  I am sitting on a i7 myself with reasoning as the build has to last 5 years or more.  Overclocking, for me will be very important.

Weak1ings got a reaction from Mr.Tech.Qc in HDMI vs Displayport (the technical part)
Typically, Display Port is going to be the better if you are using it for Displays:  Primarily with older standards like DP 1.2 as HDMI could only drive 60hz 1080p and not 144hz unlike DP OR Dual-Link DVI.  (1.2 can drive 4K @ 60hz)

With the newest standards this is how they compare:
Display Port supports Daisy chaining and DP 1.3 4:2:0 supports 8K 60hz  But at 3m, can go longer depending on resolution and bitrate  (Please note that 8k 60hz is subsampled and not true as DP cannot achieve 45Gbps) HDMI 2.0 can do 4K 60Hz (note that DP can also do this) Doesn't support Daisy chain but can go further with 4K at 10m.  (I suspect DP can do this too, as that standard does 8k at 3m) Both support digital Audio

Just hope they have Skyrim.  Mind you, it's not done yet...  but it's fun to play Skyrim together, even if it's technically broken for now.

Really, it comes down to hosting the stuff yourself and keeping it in your own hands...  Only share what you want, this is where an open source thing comes handy because you know who that program serves and one can make it serve the user only.
    One big appeal for Linux.

    Since Modern Super Computers existed
"As of November 2014 [update], 485 or 97% of the world's fastest supercomputers use the Linux kernel. Of the remaining 3%, the majority run the AIX Unix variant, with one running another Unix variant, one supercomputer running Windows, and one with a "mixed" operating system."

Anyways, Linux is free, supports excellent VMware, is very Modular; Choose the GUI you like, Customizable, and runs all other programs designed for it.  And no, I am not saying it's mainstream... yet..  GabeN seems to want it to become so however.
You might not use it, and I might not use it, but just because neither of us uses it does not make it irrelevant  Linux is a great and broad platform with far more versatility than Windows or Mac.  Just look at those Supercomputers that use Linux; the same thing that can run on your PC.

If you want a great alternative to that CPU cooler, Go for the Cryorig H5 Universal and a XF140 fan (or any other 140mm with 120mm mounts) which for me on my 4790K at stock sat me under Prime & Maximum load at 62 C.  For $60, it's unbeatable (lower without the XF140 but Cyrorig has excellent warranties although, a new company.  6 & 5 year respectively)

I got mine not to OC, but to just keep it well cooled.

Weak1ings got a reaction from Oberon.Smite in GPU for budget rigs?
Ignore what has been said above, the GTX 660 is a Kepler GPU which out performs the GTX 750 Ti, the R7 265, and is around the 270 or 370.  However, it is old but it will serve you well.
My biggest concern is the fact it's a refurb though...  although it doesn't mean it will be terrible.

At this price, and with the low TDP it might be worth it to SLI right off the bat.

GTX 660 > the HD 7850 (which is the 265) and fights against the HD 7870 (the 270)
