If you're talking about this one, then I think yes. The card from EVGA is more neutral and has no color.

Coffee Lake laptops are slowly starting to roll out but so far its with desktop chips so with that in mind and for that price I would just buy the Y720 as the 8700HQ is going to be awhile and it is going to cost you $300+ more for no real good reason.

Well, as I have mentioned, I play games like Cities: Skylines, BeamNG.drive, ETS2, etc. and I don’t think the IGPU could hold it’s standard.

Well, I may end up opting for that when the H/B series come out. If they don’t make it in time for me to build, then I’ll go for the 8700K, but I think I would like the 8700 better since it’s my first PC and I don’t see myself needing an OC.

    Edit: forgot about PSU

I am going to invest in a 550W Focus Plus, I’ve decided.

Hey Dyl its Dyl here, the 8700k is a monster and will not bottleneck anywhere in the near future, the only thing that is a little shoddy is the 2003 psu, the capacitors could have degraded from just sitting along with anything else that is in it (it is fourteen years old at this point) I would say to invest in a newer psu because it will probably put out cleaner power with less variations in voltage to your components. Second the efficiency from a gold standard power supply from 2017 will be easily noticeable in heat output and power draw from a psu manufactured in 2003. I usually recommend to use new psu's because they are fire risks when you really don't know the condition the internals might be in. Other than that you should be good to go.

    Some light programming.
Going to be buying a 1440p monitor when I get out of debt for this build haha.

Need 8700K for threads, I do VMs sometimes and some programming tasks.

The 470 isn't terrible, you may want to recommend something like a Ryzen 3 or 5 with 8GB DDR4 and a B350 mobo.

Okay. Basically what CPU I buy is all going to come down to a few things: 1. What CPU MicroCenter has (if either) when I'm Black Friday shopping, or 2. What price they are and if either is in stock if I miss Black Friday. If the 8400 is available I'll purchase that, if the 8350K is available and the 8400 isn't I'll buy that. If for some insane reason the 8600K is on sale I'll buy that. I'm not really trying to set things in stone, I'm just trying to put together a rough plan.

But you lose OC, and many people call the 7350K a premium box opener (myself included), but i guess so. Just wait another month though.

So yeah, this is a good build for $500. Fastest you can do atm, however you should wait for Coffee Lake to come out in a month, if you can.
However, if you need a PC now then this will be good https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fhfJKZ

No, it's not. That's pretty poor. Unlocked CPU doesn't make sense with that motherboard.
No, it won't. Don't spread misinformation about bottlenecking. That's not how it works.
    Group regulated doesn't mean bad.

B360 for Coffee Lake. It seemed like you were saying a B250 chipset motherboard would be compatible with Coffee Lake. I don't think that's what you were implying, but just to clarify for anyone, Coffee Lake will NOT work on any of the current motherboards. You'll need an H310, B360, H370, or Z370 chipset motherboard(or I guess Z390 when those release).

OP - Don't go Ryzen. From the information you've given us, Intel is still going to be better, especially if you already have that motherboard. An i5 or i7 is going to be better for "1080p with the highest FPS he can get". However, if he only has a 1080p 60Hz monitor, it doesn't matter at all, so you'd be better off with an R5 1600 and GTX 1060 6GB.

So, tell us the make and model of the monitor he'll be using, as well as which games he plans on playing and THEN we can properly help you.
