  1. Hi there, Just an quick update... amazon finally delivered the thermal paste (they lost my package), after putting new one, I launch a new OCCT test and the temperature stay stable at 65degres. Thank you all for the help!
  2. I just bought some thermal paste from amazon, as soon as I get it, I switch it, and keep you posted Thanks agains!
  3. Hello, So I installed CPUID HWMonitor to see my stats and did a OCCT tests. The tests lasted exactly 14seconds before telling me that the cpu was over maximum value. Value reached 89. I'm guessing this is not normal. While looking inside my computer, I saw that the heat sink had some jiggle room, is this normal? Anyway, not too sure what data you need to help me, so I'll make a screenshot of HWMonitor with it's data and the result of the short OCCT test. Thank you again. HWMonitor.txt
  4. Hi there Thanks for the answers. Here are some more informations: I did not overclock anything, pretty much everything in the bios is by default except for virtualization settings. I had this computer made for me since I did not have time to check everything out (I'm a little bit rusty, the last computer I mount was 8years ago), so I do not know if they have put any thermal paste. A lots of you said that the t4 might not be good enough for a i7-7700k, what would you recommand? (If possible without any leds) Also, is there a way to verify if there is enough thermal paste without having to unmount everything and reapplying some other? @NowThatsDamp you talk about some stress tests, could you recommand one, and tell me how do I see if result are abnormal? Thank you
  5. This summer I bought a new computer. I don't use my computer for a lots of stuff, word, excel, little bit of coding, and youtube. I wanted a really fast computer and a quiet one. So I bought an i7-7700k with a asus prime b250m board, no graphics cards (using the cpu), and a coolermaster hyper t4 for cpu cooling. To be the most quiest possible, I bought an thermaltake suppressor f31. Most of the time, it is super quiet, and based on my sensors, the cpu temperature stay around 32-33°C But sometime, most of the time when I compile some code (real small application), the temperature will go up to 88-90, and the fan will start spinning and making a lots of sound. And after a little whiles, the temperature will drop almost instantly and the fan will be quiet again. Is it possible that something was badly done when making the computer, or thoses gaps in temperature are normal? And is there a way to reduce the amount of noise while the cpu is getting hot, or at least, to reduce the temperature of the cpu? Thank you

    DDC/CI

Hello, I have a LG 34UC88-B with 3 computer plug into it. (Two hdmi and one displayport) Normally I use the monitor menu to switch from one computer to an other but it's not the easiest way possible, so I started to look into DDC/CI where I can directly send commands to the monitor. Most of my computer are on debian so I'm using ddccontrol (https://github.com/ddccontrol) to send data. When I'm on my main computer (display port), I can switch to any of the hdmi port with the command "sudo ddccontrol -r 0x60 -w 18 dev:/dev/i2c-4" or "sudo ddccontrol -r 0x60 -w 17 dev:/dev/i2c-4" And from any hdmi I can switch to the other hdmi without any problem with the same command. But I have a problem when I try to return to my main computer (display port). The only value that change something is 14, and I get an error message on screen telling me that nothing is plugged in. So, do you know if there are a second command to activate the display port, or something else I'm not doing right? Thanks
  7. I'm currently following this guide https://forum.level1techs.com/t/play-games-in-windows-on-linux-pci-passthrough-quick-guide/108981 to be able to make a vm with a pci passthrough. My vm is created, and everthing seem ok, but I get a black screen on the second screen (the vm screen) each time. You can find my virt config file here: https://pastebin.com/RrCuvXg8 lspci -k show that both my video card and audio card (on my video card) are using vfio 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. If you need more info, I'll edit this post. Thanks
  8. Thank you for the reply. So just to be sure, with that motherboard, if I buy an SSD 960 EVO NVMe M.2 250GB, I will be able to have the nvme and use it as pcie and so it should go faster than a m.2 sata connection or a normal ssd sata?
  9. Hello, I would like to change my computer soon. I am not a gamer, mostly work. But there is something with M.2 that I'm not quite sure to understand. I know there are m.2 sata, m.2 pcie and m.2 nvme. From what I understand, m.2 sata pretty much the same speed as a ssd sata, and pcie is the fastest and nvme is mostly just a protocol to replace ahci. Where I'm a little bit fuzzy does it depend of the m.2 or of the motherboard? I'm currently looking at the motherboard asus prime b250m-c/csm (https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/PRIME-B250M-C-CSM/) that come with 2 m.2 slot. If I plug any m.2 in it, will it have the speed of a m.2 sata or a m.2 pcie? Or is the only way to have m.2 pcie is to plug it into a pcie slot? And does the motherboard and the m.2 have to be nvme compatible or only one of them? Thank you for taking time to answer me.
