    No it's not worth it

No the next card worth upgrading to would be a 2080ti, going off Nvidia history, the 2080 will be around the same as an average overclocked 1080ti, So your gains in performance will be whatever overclock you can get out of the 2080.

I have a rule that i don't upgrade my GPU until i can get around 75% gains in performance increase, the way AMD are going my next card will be in the year 2035.

if the 2080 is faster than the 1080ti it will have the exact same price hikes over msrp or shortages. you won't be getting this card for msrp.

The brand is less important. Its better to compare the controller and the kind of flash on the ssd.

I used rocket chat on a server for a while, that has a mobile app with push notification and a lot of admin powers, however I am not 100% sure about how secure it is, you need a reserve proxie on port 80 for SSL and such, and an NGINX cert I think, but if all else fails lets encrypt could be used for a signed cert. I never had issues but I don't think anyone tried to hack me while I used it,.

if gaming the logitech g933 is pretty nice with good bass.
if mobile i own the apple air pods. They are light, fits good (my ears), long batterie, good bass, wireless (no wire at all not like the beats),good quality, cool features under apple products and essential features under android, fully bluetooth compatible

True, I just checked it myself .. well sorry for that misinformation @BLVCKRIPPER
This one is the same model but with a 1050Ti 2GB. It has a Kaby Lake CPU, DDR4 slots, etc
But "This 15.6inch N850HK1 barebone from Clevo comes standard without memory, hdd/ssd and Operating System."
You'll have to provide that .. and it is € 700 .. so that isn't really a good deal anymore, I'll check some other OEM's and post some results here if you'd like.

BLVCKRIPPER reacted to Sfekke in Looking for a good "gaming Laptop" below 600
    I myself have a Clevo N150RD which is pretty capable with 12GB's of DDR3 a SkyLake i5 and a GTX960M 2GB.
It is a bit more then €600
But this one is pretty great spec wise (This one costs € 660)
it has a MX150 which is a little faster then a laptop 1050Ti.
For €660 it  isn't easy to find good gaming laptops, ASUS/HP/ACER/MSI do not offer any great options unless you'll want to live with Intel HD.

I already bought items at this webshop, not sure if they ship to Germany but the person selling them "Frits" is a understand and helpful person.

You're talking about a lot of different services on one server and a bunch of different platforms. Interesting combinations here

First of all, why do you want PFSense, DNSmasq and LDAP specifically? Is your home router or modem not good enough?

Especially, if you want this server to function as a firewall for your network, you'll have to turn it into your primary network gateway for client devices in order to actually forward the traffic through the firewall. Also don't forget to disable DHCP on your ISP's router.
I'm not seeing much use case for Windows Server either, as most of what you intend to run is Linux based. I'm assuming it's for game servers only? If so, a client OS will suffice . I'd personally skip LDAP and use AD instead, but hey, that's just what I have experience with, I wouldn't touch LDAP with a 10 foot pole since I only manage Windows environments.

Any idea which hypervisor you want to use? ESXi? Proxmox VE? XenServer? Hyper-V Server?

I'm not seeing any major resource hogs otherwise. A basic 8-core Xeon setup with 32GB of RAM will probably do fine for you.

    Edit:

    Something like this:

    https://www.servershop24.de/en/server/hp/dl-series/hp-proliant-dl380e-gen8-server-2x-xeon-e5-2450l-8-core-1-8-ghz-16-gb-ddr3-ram-2x-1000-gb-sas-7-2k/a-117801/

Just upgrade to 32GB or 48GB of RAM and you're set.

if you are to set many VMs (as in more than 1) on one physical machine then you will need a multicore CPU definatelly, a ton of RAM and lots of disk space.
Since getting hardware (enterprise grade) can be quite expensive, I'd recommend to build your own server with high quality parts. If you can get your hands on a Xeon CPU and ECC ram even better. It will give you more reliability.
Also keep in mind that if you setup VMs with Linux as the guest OS, I highly recommend to set it up with console only and manage it with webmin and console, as GUI tends to be a resource hogger.
That way, you'll be able to save money instead of go and buy a new server, OR, you can check up on the net for refurbished previous generation servers. For the things you have to do, you don't need a State of the art machine.
Most of them are expandable regarding memory, NICs and hard drives.

BLVCKRIPPER reacted to GamerMaker in CPU Upgrade no next Intel Coffee Lake
I wouldn't you would have to dump your motherboard ram and cpu because DDR4 CPUS need fancy RAM and that board doesn't currently support DDR4. Also your sound card has been known to act up when used on certain newer lga-1151 boards.

is there a reason of upgrading?
id suggest only upgrading if your cpu is like semi-dead, and not performing well, etc..
if it's not serving your needs than yeah.. upgrade...
but if it's just enough for your daily uses of it, then just dont bother upgrading, as u wont really benefit from it..
and you could use the extra money for more games or idk..

BLVCKRIPPER reacted to Brooksie359 in CPU Upgrade no next Intel Coffee Lake
If the performance is still there I don't see a reason to upgrade. You have an i7 with a very good overclock so I would just stick with what you have unless you really need the extra performance. I mean in a lot of cases you will gpu limited anyways so unless you are going for 1080p super high frame rate you likely won't see much of a difference. If you need 6 cores for some reason then I could see a good reason to upgrade.

I've now owned the Strix OC for 2 days and am happy with it. My choice was narrowed down to that and the EVGA FTW, but a video by Gamers Nexus gave the nod to the Strix for cooling so I went with that.

I have owned Zotac cards in the past, not high end ones, and my reason for doing so was mainly price. Something I don't feel like doing on the high end...
