  1. Sounds like a cheap Chinese or factory reject battery. See if you can exchange it. If not try to find a first party battery either through MSI or used in better shape.
  2. Let's ignore the fact that both of those models have issues. 4gb of ram is not enough for even the most basic users. The 1060 is going to throttle in those chassis. Going with a 1050(ti) in a better cooled chassis will likely outperform that throttled 1060 in any task that lasts over 30 seconds.
  3. Nitro 5 the cooling issues are blown out of proportion on this model. So long as you have the i5 1050(ti) it can handle it. The real issues for me after a year of use were: Plastic construction Keyboard feel (still one of the best you are going to find in this budget) Screen-this is due to the plastic construction, but the screen contacts a row of keys when closed. A taller rubber spacer would have done wonders here.
  4. This is literally asking for trouble. Are there any stores local to you? Quality control on consumer laptops is horrible right now. It's not so much an issue of if, but when you have an issue you have nothing to fall back on. You might check that whatever brand you buy from has a first party warranty center in your country as well. Without one a warranty is pretty meaningless.
  5. Most likely the liquid metal migrated or the GPU overheated and died. Onboard sensor readings are not to be trusted 100 percent especially in laptops. If you applied liquid metal I wouldn't expect the warranty to go in your favor.
  6. Why not just be careful about the information you make available? Consider anything on social media public.
  7. If it were me I would keep your existing system. Throw a 1060 or rx580 in there and ride it out for 2-3 more years.
  8. Your best bet is to put a new battery in the l430 and use it. If you sell those you are more likely to get 20-50 each assuming they work and are in good shape. Nothing new in the 200-300 dollar range is even usable. Used you can pick a different thinkpad model.
  9. Two years is a very long time in the life of a modern laptop. You may look into the Lenovo flex series as well. They are pretty much a plastic yoga. If you are considering the three Lenovo models I would highly reccomend typing on them in person as all three models use the same compact keyboard legend. Personally, while the keyboard felt nice the weird layout was a dealbreaker for school. Personally I would ditch the touchscreen as well in favor of higher specs. It seems to be a polarizing feature, but I only used it for a couple days and then found it easier and faster to type and use a mouse. Again try this out for yourself to see what you think. Personally I found it to be a gimmick.
  10. Normally I would say depends on the model. While I do believe that model is super important, 4gb of ram is just not usable in windows 10. You really need a bare minimum of 8gb to do even the most basic tasks.
  11. So I heartily disagree. Laptops have never been cheaper and more available. Markup on laptops is surprisingly low. Desktop component prices and laptop prices have never and will never be comparable. If you want to complain about a trend in laptops look at the poor thermal performance or the decreasing build quality or the removal of user serviceable batteries.
  12. If it makes you feel any better I haven't played 4 or 5 yet.
  13. You are talking about a laptop with a mobile GPU that gets outperformed by modern Intel integrated graphics. For 250 in my area I can get a fairly recent used laptop. Look at your local markets. Shouldnt be too hard to find a gaming laptop from this generation under 100 bucks. Most of those Ebay listings wont sell. Look at recent completed listings and then half that value for local listings.
  14. Wouldn't be worth it if you have literally any other option. That is a really expensive fix for a laptop you can find used in good shape for 50-80 bucks.
  15. The gtx 295 shows up as 2 because it is 2. It has 2 GPU cores on the same board. As for value. It's worth about what he paid for it. 50-100 bucks. He could probably sell the GPU to a collector separate, but then the PC would be pretty much worthless.
  16. Honestly nothing new under 300 is going to be usable with windows 10. Look at used. Older thinkpads hold up remarkably well.
  17. He's asking for online stores that sell laptops in your area so that he can see what is available. If you weren't being sarcastic about the dust storms what you want doesnt really exist.
  18. 50-100 bucks if it works. I have a flex 5 with very similar specs. It is not fast enough for even the most basic word processing in windows 10 unless you drop an 8gb stick of ram in it. Even then it is barely usable.
  19. The only thing that really has that kind of durability is a Panasonic toughbook or the getac rugged laptops, but they aren't light and aren't cheap and you aren't really going to game on either.
  20. From someone who has had 2 nitro 5s the i5 1050-1050ti models have pretty good thermals. The factory Acer paste is definitely not the limiting factor in any case.
  21. If they are both nitro 5 I would get the 1050ti. It is incredibly easy to add a 2.5" drive if your sub model comes with the caddy and cable installed. Adding an ssd to the hdd model is much harder.
  22. It's fine, but I really wouldn't be looking at consumer laptops for a business that is going to depend on the laptops reliability. I would be looking at a business class laptop. A good warranty that has same or next day replacement is more important to ensure you dont end up losing money when something happens.
