WoofyDaTechHound reacted to jaslion in Need help deciding Cpu generation with the current ddr4/ddr5 debate
Dont just keep your ddr4. By the time you want more performance its not gonna make sense yo swap board and ram to get a little extra performance vs just getting a new board, ram and cpu.

Currently ddr5 is in early adopter mode and I say about at where the ddr4 2666mhz range atm for speeds that arent too expensive to get. So give it a couple more years before we reach the good stuff at a good price.

Pretty much but dont buy into it just to buy into it. If the system you use is still plenty good then dont bother.

I think it's probably a bit of both, but I believe the consumers got screwed harder considering the price for a FE Ti card went from $699 to $1199 for the same ~30% increase in performance generation over generation under the guise of "ray tracing" that won't even run that well at the end of the day.

any class action from consumers on the horizon? i have an intel cpu and if it takes a 30% performance hit i request a full compensation of it and of the motherboard.

    Title.

What are some tech-related things that people say that trigger you or other tech fans?

Personally, when someone says "memory" when they mean "storage" it makes me cringe. I once even had a phone-repair shop employee tell me " the ram is what gives your phone its speed".... I felt bad and didn't wan't to tell him how wrong he is so I just pretended like I had no idea about how computers work.

EDIT: Well, this thread blew up.. Apparently i'm not the only one who gets triggered at false statements.

It'll still be socket 1151, BUT Z370 chipsets won't support it, so you'll need a "new" Z470 board.

If you jump of a bridge on a bungee cord, would you rather have a cord calibrated for your exact bodyweight, or maybe one that is some factor stronger?
That's a little difficult to judge. It looks to be the right form factor, but Dell provides very little info on this.

It probably will, but barely. I would upgrade the PSU asap, but preferably at the same time as the GPU.

WoofyDaTechHound reacted to Jonathan Lemmens in gtx 1050ti
No it's not. Those numbers are not meant to represent absolute power draw, it is a recommendation for a minimum wattage PSU you need to run the card. The designers deliberately factor in an extra margin to compensate for stuff like high temps, bad quality PSU's or dust buildup and most importantly, legal backlash. And of course the engineers then say "lets add another 10% and we'll be safe for sure". By my definition this is not inflation, but a risk analysis.

For many people who depend on their PC on a low budget, It can shake up your life pretty bad when it dies due to a crappy PSU. So I think my analogy made sense.

Here you are as said if it's exhaust it really doesn't need a filter but that being said I personally use filters on every opening in my case just to prevent dust from settling into the system when it gets turned off.

    @nicklmg
I really question the $75 cooler on a locked i5 (and a $75 PSU when there are plenty of very good and much cheaper options).....that money could have been spent so much better.

Also, B150 board? Are you asking for trouble? Sure it will probably work, but it may also need a bios update.

Every LTT build guide really just makes me sit here and scratch my head. For under $1000 I can easily get in a 7600k+Z270 board+1tb hdd. And that's using a BeQuiet cooler, case, and and PSU that LTT chose.
Or I could have done the same as the above but swapped to an R5 1400 and upgraded the 580 to a 1070, also for under $1000.
