  1. I am making a 2nd rig and I decided on the 5700G. The 5600X is faster at gaming but this is mostly at 1080P. If you do more multicore work or in my case just want to have a CPU with onboard graphics for troubleshooting or holding out for a dedicated GPU, than the 5700G makes sense.
  2. I have a LG C1 48" for my monitor and a Sony A80J 65" for our living room. The difference in price between a 65" C1 and A80J was like $500, with the LG being cheaper but my wife is a Sony fangirl for some off reason. With this being said the Sony IMO has better color accuracy, slightly brighter, I love the Google OS, less glossy screen, and I prefer the Sony remote. The LG is simply more feature rich with more HDMI 2.1 ports, FreeSync/G-SYNC support so it makes a better monitor plus it's cheaper. Both are outstanding and but that's not too much of surprise since they both use the same LG panel. If you plan to use this for gaming, as a monitor, or plan to fill it up with more than two HDMI 2.1 devices than I would go LG. If this is just a "TV" than the $100 difference is minimal and I would suggest the Sony
  3. Just huge demand plus COVID. I will say your not missing much since the XBOX One X has zero exclusives at the moment and it's main selling point is game pass, so basically playing older XBOX games. PS5 has maybe 3-4 true exclusives and I do think the Dual Sense controller is game changing but only one game takes full advantage of it (Astros Playroom). Point being even if you had to wait another 6 months or until we get into Q4, I don't think your missing much of anything In order to get my PS5 had to buy a RTX 3070 from Newegg and swapped in locally with a guy from reddit for his PS5 Disc plus cash. Only reason I got the PS5 is because I am mining full time with my other two rigs until BTC totally crashes or when it gets hot out and I need use AC
  4. You can't run nice hash and play games at the same time since it's utilizing your GPU to mine. However if you only mine with your GPU and want to browse the web at the same time you can do that. On the other hand if you do mine with your CPU most tasks will become pretty jittery
  5. Very, true unless it's EVGA and even then the transferable warranty is not valid in every country I'd be skeptical about even buying a new (resold) GPU since a lot of card manufactures only will warranty the card through the original purchaser
  6. anecdotally I have already seen Microcenters get in a lot of Ryzen 5000 chips and I am constantly seeing them on NewEgg Shuffle and people are slightly softening on scalped prices for these chips. 5905X were commonly being resold for $1200 but now I see them going for $900-$1000 Now the RTX 3080 is a whole other beast. Yes you have stock shortages due to high demand and tariffs but you also have mining going on. People thought it was crazy when RTX 3080 were being sold for $1200 at launch but with what's going on that might be too low since they are now going for as high as $1500. I don't think RTX 3080 ever hit shelves for the foreseeable future due to mining.
  7. I mean the RTX 3090 is a master card with more memory. If you truly can afford* a RTX 3090 get the 3090, however the ability to actually buy one is slim and are we talking about a $1500 RTX 3090 or a $2000+? Might seem odd but even if it is a $2000 RTX 3090 I would say go for it with the idea that you will mine with it on the side to make back some of the money. A month of part time mining can easily net you $300-$400 after power The only reason to wait IMO is if you want to see if this RTX 3080 Ti ever comes to fruition and what price it comes at but as you might guessed that card if and when released will also have terrible availability
  8. I mean your question assumes that the RTX 3080 Ti actually gets launched and doesn't get cancelled and two that you have the equal opportunity (or any) to get either card. With that being said if for some reason stock normalizes and MSRP becomes relevant again than it will depend 100% on what the RTX 3080 Ti retails for. I would think it would have to be no more than $1100 in order to properly compete with the RX 6900 XT while not eating into the RXT 3090. I agree with other people that the difference in performance between the two cards in gaming will be so marginal, like the difference between the RX 6900 XT vs RTX 3090, but if the RTX 3090 actually gets Titan drivers that's a whole new ballgame especially with the 24GB of memory.
  9. It depends what resolution and games you play. A RTX 3070 is basically a newer version of the RTX 2080 Ti performance wise so with that being said 1080P and most 1440P will be fine for the RTX 3070. Now if you want to play certain new AAA games like CP 2077, WD Legion, AC Valhalla at 1440P-4K than yes a RXT 3080 or even RXT 3090 starts to become the bare min.
  10. lol I know the feeling. I had an extra RTX 3080 and RTX 3090, but I sold the 2nd RTX 3080 and returned my 1st RTX 3090. Also I just started mining in Feb. Now is the best time mine since in Spring Summer you have to start thinking about AC
  11. I use nice hash as a casual miner and for the 2% they take out of my two rigs it's not a big deal. Now if you had 100 GPUs and did this for a living sure you would want to maximize every single cent possible and not auto mine. For me it's not worth the hassle since again I am a casual miner and I am looking to do this just to make some cash on the side with my RTX 3080 and 3090. I spent a lot of money on them cards I might as well use them when I am not gaming... I live in NYC so power is high but even with power in the equation I project to make $600-$700 a month profit
  12. Well you might be waiting that long for any card anyways, you might as well wait and get the card you want. I will saying the rumors the RTX 3080 Ti are ramping up again so that might be a third option. I will say price at this point has become almost irrelevant since besides the FE cards they all have had price hikes or being sold above the suggest retails by authorized sellers. I know I am not one to talk since I got both my current EVGA RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 FE for MSRP, but if I were in your position I would pay the scalped or increase price and here is why. It doesn't look like stock will be remotely better by the end of Q1. There is no indication that for the US tariffs will be lifted. If you aren't against the idea of mining, doing so can heavily offset the cost of your card as long as your electricity is out of this world high and bitcoin and mining stay high.
  13. I can't comment on the RX 6900 XT but as a RTX 3090 FE owner I can vouch that if you can get one for $1500 it would be the card to get. The card's cooler is fantastic, the card itself looks like a work of art, better Ray Tracing than the RX, has DLSS, NVIDIA studio, more memory, and simply the fastest GPU out there. Now is it a great value no, but with all these price hikes going on it kind of is... I just saw Newegg directly selling a 6800 for $950 and through Newegg shuffle RX 6900 XT were going for $1400+. If you can get a pure $1000 RX 6900 XT sure the debate tightens but those cards are really rare
  14. Two high-end SFF desktops, one iPad Pro, and a Dell XPS 13 laptop
  15. RTX 2080 S since a 5700 XT was a slightly slower 2070 Super and 2080 S was only marginally better than a 2070 S but $200 more. EDIT: if you can get that proposed RTX 2080 Ti for your 5700 XT plus $60 that's a no brainer.
  16. CP 2077 is the new new Crysis. Listen there is nothing wrong with your RTX 3070, just a beast of a game. I am running a R9 5900X, 32Gb DDR4 3600 RAM, running the game off a M.2, and have a RTX 3090 FE and with the details to Ultra, Ray Tracing fully on, DLSS on I am still getting sub 90 FPS on a 1080P high refresh screen. So you not being able to hit 60 FPS logically makes sense
  17. interesting, but I get some of his logic. I get this theory with the RTX 3090 FE since it's the cheapest but also for the money one of the best coolers and IMO looks like a piece of jewelry almost. The RTX 3080 FE is a tad different for me just due to the fact that there are some other high end RTX 3080 cards like the MSI Suprim which perform and look great yet are still under $1000, which mentally is that barrier that most consumers face. On the other hand for a client that really cares about aesthetics the 12 pin adapter looks horrible.
  18. With price hikes and scalping aside the RTX 3070 is basically a next gen RTX 2080 Ti in terms of traditional rasterization, so if you game at 1080P it crushes it, 1440P very good, and 4K 60 FPS can do in a lot of games with some compromises. In contrast the RTX 3080 does everything the RTX 3070 does but is almost 20% faster at 1440P and 25%-30% faster at 4K. Where this really makes a difference is 4K, since finally there is a card that can not only hit 60 FPS in really any game but also do 120 FPS in a lot of games. So it all depends on what resolution you plan on gaming at or what games you play. You are probably right to wait, just know this craziness could end in a month or so or could bleed into mid 2021. This is very similar to happened in 2017 where GTX 1080 Ti we going for $1200 as mining boomed and the only sensible option was getting lucky with a restock. And man did it suck, since that mining boom and lack of stock lasted a while
  19. MSRP ha With the AIB raising prices on cards I am not sure how long NVIDIA can go selling their RTX 3080 at $700 or their RTX 3090 at $1500. Plus NVIDIA had planned on cancelling FE models but people complain on social media made them rethink this, point being NVIDIA for better or worse has never liked selling their own cards since they compete against AIB models and their site was never properly setup as a ecommerce site, thus that is why they shifted all FE sales to Best Buy in the US. It wouldn't surprise me if they stopped selling FE cards all together I am guessing you are looking at a FE not only because they are great cards but because they are the cheapest ones out there, but the likelihood of getting a RTX 3080 FE is low. What that means, you are going to have to pony up more money for an AIB model. Signup for EVGA notifications, every Tuesday keep refreshing on Best Buy's website, look to hardwareswap or Facebook marketplace for scalpers. Heck if you have the money or credit line I would consider picking up a RTX 3090 and then trading it with someone for a RTX 3080 plus the price difference.
  20. So a RTX 3060 Ti is like a better RTX 2080 S or near RTX 3070, or RXT 2080 Ti, thus this can drive 2560x1440 or 3440x1440. Now there will be some games like CP 2077 or AC VH that really tax that card but those games also tax a RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 as well. Personally I keep my monitors longer than I do my GPUs since I upgrade my GPU every refresh cycle but I upgrade my monitors either when they break or every 5+ years or when a next gen card can run a next gen monitor to the point where it's "worth" upgrading. The RTX 3080 is a prime example of this since in "most" games at 4K it can do 120+ FPS, so buying a fancy 4K high refresh rate monitor or OLED 4K 120Hz TV starts to make sense. So IMO I would buy the 1440P monitor since your current card can currently run it well and future GPUs should only make the experience even better. The one thing you didn't address is the size of the monitor since I wouldn't recommend a 1080P screen for anything larger than 25" since at 27" things get too grainy for me and also if any of these monitors are G-SYNC capable or have a G-SYNC module. Point being, if one monitor had G-SYNC and the other one didn't, that probably would be the deciding factor for me
  21. if you truly have $800 to freely spend I would throw in a couple hundred extra and buy a scalped one locally or off hardwareswap IMO. I personally expected this GPU shortage/crisis to continue throughout out 2021, so that's why I jumped all over buying any RTX 3000 series card I could get my hands on
  22. There are only two cards that are semi worth it for ray tracing and that is the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 and even then those cards take massive performance hits with ray tracing like in a game like CP 2077. IMO we still aren't there yet where ray tracing matters for the majority of games. DLSS has come to fruition and IMO 100% makes the RTX lineup worth it, but don't buy a RTX card for ray tracing, we are probably still two generations of cards away
  23. How much money do you have or how much are you willing to wait? I can't recommend buying any RTX 2000 series cards unless you get a used one with a transferable warranty for super cheap (unlikely). If I bought a RTX 2070 S for $800 I would instantly regret it. I would either just wait it out (could be a while), hope for catching one on restock, or ponying up and throwing in a few extra dollars to buy a scalped RTX 3000 card. I bought an EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra scalped for $1200 at launch and some people gave me a ton of flack for it but that card is still nearly impossible to find and now EVGA have raised the price from $770 to $840. Even if you had instant regret for buying a scalped card you could easily resell it making back your money or actual turn a profit. I managed to sell my EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 for the $1200 I bought it for since I managed to score a RTX 3090 FE for MSRP. Point being this is 2017 all over again where high demand plus mining sky rocketed the 2nd hand. I started with a GTX 1070 in 2017 and managed to upgrade to a GTX 1080 and then GTX 1080 Ti via just flipping cards in a matter of months while not spending anything
  24. Some of the sizes of these enclosures are as big if not bigger than some SFF systems. It will cost more unless you constantly want to swap parts in and out but I would suggest just building a SFF travel system system you will then get the full power of any card you have
