MrBrownSound's Achievements

  1. MrBrownSound https://www.vessel.com/videos/LCoY5zfFf Of course this video, although it raises more questions than it answered for me. Looks like I'll have to wait until the new office is setup and we are able to see the units in use, to have a more detailed view of how this is going to pan out. https://www.vessel.com/videos/JYZEYDYx0 because this style of free form video, riffing it, was great.
  2. Linus, while you're at it, download istat menu from http://bjango.com/ so you can see how hot the gpu/cpu get while in use. It allows you manually change their speeds, and what not. Also seriously, is there no way short of altering the mobo, to get this to be the external display to an existing PC? I think that's the question a lot of us want to know. Also while your at it, see how you like it ssh'ing from the default terminal to other linux or mac machines, I think it's pretty handy. I take notes through terminal in class to maximize battery life. Not that you can't do that from windows console. Let us know what you think about the pretty neat screen spaces usability, and different gestures on the mac, using that touch mouse thing. Also let us know about what you think about the interface and general usability from a pc master race sorta perspective, not as a regular user. But, I don't know, maybe see how somebody like your wife thinks about it.
  3. Most laptops throttle the cpu when off charge, be it a design choice to save battery, or because the cpu simply is getting too hot. This is really common in "gaming" and other laptops. You are using the laptop when on charge right? On a lot of gaming laptops with default energy saving settings, if even, you can be getting 60fps in a game, but when you take the power plug off, it will throttle the system, and you'll see 20 fps for example. I'm not sure if in all cases simply editing the windows energy saving settings will fix this issue.
  4. I don't know. I think desktop monitors are making the case for windows to fix the scaling issues eventually. In the meanwhile, for such a small laptop screen, a really good ips 60hertz 1080p screen, would have been suitable, even kill the 6GB's of VRAM. Maybe would have freed some money to fix the off feeling keyboard, add a du-dad to make a more rigid hinge (really it was shaking like crazy while you were typing on it,) and frost the blatantly fingerprint magnet trackpad. When you see laptops like this thermal throttle, like crazy when off charge, it makes you wonder, why they wouldn't just do what they had to do to make a good experience, and do what they know they can do well (1080p gaming) instead of topple all these things that were just sort of unnecessary in this thermally limiting form factor.
  5. How relevant is this really, now? I just hope they don't use what will be lack luster PC sales to conclude that, "ah, well see our game doesn't do that well on PC, just look at how many torrents there are. Next time let's not even try." The lack luster PC sales that will inevitably happen, will be caused by Rockstars inability to deliver a product to a huge demographic of their supporters. Now that their cash flow is slowing on consoles, they probably have a smaller team working on the port to PC, because free money thats why.
  6. You seem to like the story element of games. Recently one the most amazing games I've played that incorporates this, wasn't PC exclusive or anything like that. It was "Child Of Light." Bought the game, for gods sakes, I downloaded Uplay because of it. Then bought the soundtrack album. It really is a beautiful game, with masterful storytelling, that just leaves you really impressed, and awed at times. Let me say right now, the turn based fighting I don't really like, so basically I cheated. I just one shotted every enemy to get on with the story. Its a short game, and requires a particular taste in (artsy) art design. You also must like instrumental, and soundtrack type music, to enjoy this game. It helps if you like Japanese culture and know how some of their video games dialogue systems work, because characters aren't voiced, except cutscenes. The dialogue in the game is said in a pretty fun poem like way. I'm reading this review, and I'm saying ok, I sound like a douche. Just dim the lights, and give it a try. I felt more connected to random ass characters than I did characters I had with me for 10's of hours in something like Fallout NV. On a side note, its fairy tale esque feeling, and amazing story telling, pushes themes about having the strength to face your fears, betrayal, and loss. So it was great having my little sister play it.
  7. Lol, yeah I understand now. Guess the better priced, for the masses IPS 4k displays are maybe a few months to a year out, at least. I guess I will stick to advising my uncle to look at either the 1600p, that weird LG panel, or wait for more budget 4k IPS screens later this year, or Q1 next year. Thanks for all the input, it really helped.
  8. wow yea, this seems to look like a Gen 2.0 version of the cheap 4k screens for the masses that we are seeing around now. Less compromises with a slightly higher 1000 dollar price tag. I don't know when this will come out, but it's the kind of thing that makes me want to wait before buying.
  9. The thought of going TN even for him sounds dirty. My uncles a weird guy that likes to watch movies in his office on his downtimes, so I think IPS would be best, not to mention that he might go three way monitors, which may mess up the viewing angles of the TN monitors. Having a non pro art color calibrated 4k or 4k/UHD monitor that doesn't have any glaring color weirdness/lag, is what I'm looking for. He might get three of them, so getting IPS is important (viewing angles.) Because he might drop a few grand for three monitors, I don't want to give advise that would be bad. So I was thinking to recommend my 30" latest model Dell Ultrsharp, but buying 2560x1600 now, when 4k is out there, seems like a wrong move, especially because prices aren't crazy different from the 2560x1600 vs 4k cheap monitors, and because more pixels = more productivity for Excel people like my uncle. And the setup he has now is three old 24" 60Hertz Dell cheap IPS monitors. So I mean even the cheap 4k monitors that have trade offs will be a significant upgrade for him right? As it is now, I might recommend: Linus's favorite LG 34UM95 34" UltraWide Widescreen 21:9 Monitor Dell Ultrasharp 2560x1600 Unless you guys have any sure fire (non-proart) IPS 4k or 4k UHD monitor suggestions that don't have any huge glaring defects, such as insane lag, 30fps lock, or really bad color. Remember he's on 24" dell IPS cheapo screens
  10. My uncle is the owner of a real estate/building type of of business. He saw my 30" dell ultrasharp 2560x1600 monitor and decided to setup 3 monitors that size in his office. He likes the pixel density that the high resolution provides. His first response when I showed him my monitor was, show me an excel doc on that. If he likes the density of 2560x1600, he'll probably like 4k better. Which 4k monitor should I recommend to him? Or mabye you would reccomend to stay on the 2560x1600 bandwagon? If it serves his productivity he won't mind spending a lot, but let's keep it realistic, a $7000 color corrected 4k display is overkill for excel spreadsheets. I also don't want it to be noticeably horrible color production, or intense lag. My uncles a weird guy that likes to watch movies in his office on his downtimes, so I think IPS would be best, not to mention that he might go three way monitors. I'm hoping somebody has experience with 4k monitors that can guide me on which monitor to recommend. I plan on taking the link to the 4k monitor I choose along with the wide wide LG screen linus seems to love, and ask him which he would like best. I originally bought my 2560x1600 Dell Ultrasharp for $1500 after tax, and warranty, I think they are closer to $1200 each now, which I told to my uncle. He responded with an old person "How much!," like parents react when they find out tshirts are $30 bucks now. Then he responded with, "Yeah I need to get three of them."
  11. Not a solution, but can you try to reload the game after turning off your software firewall, mabye integrated into your antivirus. And make sure you have all the dependencies that the game requires like the latest graphics drivers in place, not to mention that you have the system level authority to run exe's normally. The error code itself, I am not familiar with. I can speak from experience though, that firewall issues, blocking the contact home drm, can shut down or freeze your game with an error. Sorry if this didn't help, you probably know all this already.
  12. Wow, I remember when I first started watching the blonde haired you make badly lit videos in what seemed to be a NCIX closet, it was awesome. The time you announced your marriage, the time you made the scary transition from NCIX to your cold garage, the first live show that included introducing baby#1 and doing handstands in your living room, baby #2, legit commercial videos. It's been one hell of a ride. I sort of miss the days of unboxing mobo's on a park bench like a hobo, ok never mind it's better now, but what I'm saying is the community has grown really well. Keep whipping it into shape Linus, so it keeps its form.
  13. Techquickie This video was really funny. Cats, hipsters, sandals, it had it all. It was also one of the newest LinusTechTips vids with much higher production quality, than prior commercials. 14. The red accent looks really nice. Asus did a good job leveraging specs to price on this model.
  15. This giveaway is pretty generous of LG. I have to say, the screen sounded great, but that copy paste history view looks really dam useful. Also the pinch out and in to show more multitasking windows. A lot of the features LG has gotten right, should be adopted by all their competitors. Besides that, you really can't complain about that build quality, bezels, and inclusion of sd card.
