bellabichon got a reaction from Alcarin in CPU + Motherboard Combo for 1080p 144hz
Are there any other tasks that you'll be doing, besides gaming? Also, what would your approximate budget be? I'd probably recommend a 5600X or 10600K.

What are the full specs of the laptop? That looks like a dying GPU to me, but you should try re-installing GPU drivers (and Windows).

bellabichon got a reaction from lerodemmy in Can my GPU be water cooled easily?
Yes, you would need to take apart the GPU (essentially strip it down to just the PCB, install new thermal paste on the GPU, thermal pads on VRMs and memory chips, etc). After the card has been waterblocked, you'll need a pump, reservoir, radiator, and tubing.
It can be pretty daunting, so if you're not comfortable taking apart a GPU right now, then custom watercooling might not be for you.
EDIT to answer your other question: Yes, it's definitely possible to just watercool the CPU (and maybe even add your GPU to the loop later). However, it involves many of the same things that watercooling a GPU requires, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're not comfortable.

bellabichon got a reaction from tolstoy234 in I7-10700k (non oc) thermals
That's not super unexpected on that cooler. It's a CyberPower-branded Cooler Master 120mm AIO, which is somewhat underpowered when it comes to cooling the 10700k. What's the current fan configuration in your case? If you don't want to replace the AIO, getting some more airflow going could help with temps.

bellabichon got a reaction from rigged_lol in Is there any way that a bad monitor could break a GPU?
Not unless the damage is so catastrophic that it fries a display output gpu-side. But I don't think I've ever heard of that happening.

bellabichon got a reaction from dizmo in Does anyone make a case that is just for video cards?
There's plenty of cases/frames designed for GPU mining. This one from Rosewill is a good example, but you can find more by searching 'mining rig frame' or something similar.

Well, that's a surprise. Based on my experience with the cooling in MSI's laptops, I'd expect them to expressly recommend that you don't mine on their machines.

It's almost like they want to tell you that, sorry, thermal damage from mining is not covered by your warranty, but they'd love to give you 10% off of your next MSI gaming laptop.

bellabichon reacted to Lightwreather in MSI Advertises GE76 Raider Laptop As a Mining Machine
Summary
In an official blog post MSI describes how it plans to use one of its latest gaming notebooks, the 17.3-inch GE76 Raider with Intel's Core i9-10980HK processor and Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3080 GPU inside, for mining for one month. To mine, MSI will use the NiceHash platform (see how to mine Ethereum) as well as the Excavator miner with the DaggerHashimoto algorithm.

My thoughts
Well, seems like MSi might have just pulled an nvidia (yes, that's what I'm calling it) but honestly, who in their right mind would mine on a laptop with thermal and power limitations, which cannot be undervolted (there are the noobs). But either way this is just MSi trying to take advantage of the situation, tho it could mean that the silicon shortages are getting worse, which is something I'd rather not have. Whatever it is, Linus was right when he said at the beginning of last year that we should've bought our PCs.........(unless Linus is the one behind it all. Dun! Dun! Daaaaa!!!!!!..............................
Update: MSi deleted their blog post

bellabichon got a reaction from Fasauceome in Just a question.... Raspberry Pi 4 mining
The ARM1176JZ(F)-S processor in the Rasberry Pi 4 can achieve a hash rate of 0.2 MH/s. The RTX 3080, on the other hand, achieves a hash rate of 85.79 MH/s.
In short, you'd have to buy 428 Rasberry Pi 4s to achieve the same hash rate as a single 3080.

Wow, between Stadia and this, I don't think anyone thought that cloud gaming would flop this hard (except for GeForce Now, I guess).

Larger grocery stores near me carry them in the pharmacy, but your local drug store should have some too. It was sold out for a couple months because of COVID, but it should be back in stock pretty much everywhere at this point.

bellabichon got a reaction from IkeaGnome in How bottlenecked will an RTX 3090 with i7 8700K be?
What games do you play, and at what resolution? Probably very little to no bottleneck. The 8700K is still a very solid CPU.
