  1. Do you use SSD Cache's with your Synology NAS? Right now, I am only planning on using HDD's but is an SSD Cache something I need? If so, How large of an SSD would I need? Do you have any exact product reccomendations?
  2. I have the ATH M50x and they are fantastic, best headphones I have used until you start looking at things that are double your budget. Also, The cable is replaceable which makes the investment much longer lasting.
  3. HI everyone, to start off this is my first time working with or thinking about building a NAS. In the next couple of days I need to put together a NAS with a strict budget cap of $2000 to be able to order before Christmas. I need all the help I can get with this whether you can just suggest parts or a build, or reviews or suggestions for a product that would complete my needs. Currently I am looking at a pre-built synology kit (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1344868-REG/synology_ds1817_8_bay_diskstation_nas.html) and 4 Seagate Ironwolf 8TB NAS hard drives (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822179003). Budget - Strict $2000 usd Usage - This will be used in a media creation business that works with Premiere Pro, After Effects, Maya, and ProTools primarily. It will be transferring and storing large data files (i.e. 4k video files). I am unsure if I should build my own or if I should purchase a system already built where you just add the drives. Known requirements - I know that I would like to have at least four 8tb drives running in RAID 5. I would also like the ability for this to be expanded in the future as well. I know that with the Synology system linked above, I can upgrade to two more 5 drive enclosures for a total of 18 drives as well as upgrade to 8gb of ram. Finally cloud access is a requirement for this NAS as it would need to be accessed anywhere to be able to be used as a replacement for google drive. This is for my company that currently has three employees. Finally, more perks of the Synology system linked above are the two 10Gb Ethernet ports that come pre-installed which eliminates the need for us to purchase a network switch which would help our budget greatly. Other Notes - I do not remember where to go for this, but as a college student I am fairly sure that I can get Windows Server for free if building my own NAS is the way to go. Thank you for all of your help! Finally, I am unsure if this post belongs in the Servers and NAS forum or the build planning forum, hopefully the admins can help with that

  5. This machine will be used for Video Editing (Premiere Pro, After Effects) and 3D rendering/modeling with Maya. I am also building this for my sister and she tends to leave her system running. Right now I am in between the Mark 1 because of the Fan headers or the X299-E because of the built in wifi and bluetooth. The Price difference between the X299-E and the Mark 1 does cover the cost of a fan controller though. I am going with that case because for the cost, it comes with three fans of decent quality, high airflow, will fit everything I need, and has two external Drive bays. I would gladly take recommendations on a case as well!
  6. I am researching right now for a system build with an I9 7900x, a GTX 1080Ti, and a Thermal Take Water 3.0 360mm AIO. It will all be in a Corsiar 450D case. I need help selecting a motherboard, I would like to go with ASUS so I can add on a thunderbolt card later on. There are currently three boards that fit within my budget, the ROG strix x299-E, the Prime X299A, or the TUF X299 Mark 1. This PC will be in very heavy use. I would also like to use all 6 fans that will be provided between the AIO and the Case. I know that none of these boards have six fan headers so any suggestions for a fan controller would help as well on a side note. If you have any other questions please ask! Any help is appreciated in selecting the motherboard!
  7. I have the Dell U2917W. It is a fantastic monitor with amazing color. I would highly suggest looking into it. I know it is slightly under the size you want at 29 inches but I would still suggest you look into it. I use it with Premiere Pro and After Effects. The occasional game that I play on it looks fantastic as well.
  8. Are there any programs I would need to be able to test my system and make sure everything is running properly? To make sure at higher loads there would hopefully not be any hiccups or issues? Standard programs for stress testing and measuring temps/speeds. Again, any and all help is appreciated. The internet is sort of varied on these things and they don't seem to have a solid consensus from what I've seen.
  9. Hi everyone! I am about to build my first PC tomorrow! I am confident I will be able to build the PC tomorrow as far as assembly goes. However, after I get it all set up, it Post's, and I install my OS, what will I need to do? Is it possible someone could give me a list, website, or video (or combination of those) that can help me with this? I know I need to set up hard drives and update and install drivers. I am not sure how to do those things. Also, outside of that I am lost. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!! For reference here is a link to all of my parts - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JptYjc Also, I am not 100% sure if this is the right part of the forum to put this in, so if it is placed wrong please move it or tell me how/to move it
  10. That would be convenient, allowing me to have a card reader as well as the disk drive
  11. For the case, it would be helpful to have a cd drive slot, which was a major factor in choosing the Thermaltake x31. Are there any cases that you could suggest with front facing 5.25in drives?
  12. Any case suggestions? This looked highly rated and within my budget. I was choosing the 1080 instead of the ti because it fit within my planned build's budget.
  13. Would you mind giving links on Newegg to the 1080Tis? I know my budget is large but it does need to include the case and everything that goes inside it.
  14. Which threadripper would you suggest? I have not seen the 1900x for sale anywhere. Also, Is there a motherboard you would suggest to go with it?
  15. Please read until end Hi everyone, this is going to be my first full build ever! If anyone was any suggestions to different parts to either make this build better or cheaper within my $2500 USD budget please let me know! Budget and Location - As stated before my budget is $2500 USD and I live in the continental US. That budget needs to cover the entire PC, a keyboard, OS (Windows 10 PRO), and all shipping costs. I already have a monitor and mouse. Also, due to business reasons, everything needs to be from Newegg. Aim - This PC will be used for video editing (Adobe CC Suite), audio production (ProTools 12), and minor 3D rendering (Rhinocerous 5). There will be almost no gaming on this PC, I might run something like Rocket League which shouldn't affect anything. Monitors - Right now I have a Dell u3415w ultra wide monitor (3440x1440). In the future I may be upgrading to having two of these monitors. Peripherals - Like I said before, I will need a keyboard and an OS. Why I am upgrading - I am upgrading because my current PC is approaching 7 years old and is just not able to keep up with my demands anymore. This needs to be a complete build because the previous PC does still run for me and it is an HP so there is very little actually upgrade-able. What parts I am looking at - Right now I am looking at an I7 7820x with 32gb of ram, 850W Power supply, a gtx 1080, a 500gb SSD and a 2TB HDD. Here is the link to the PCPartPicker List of everything that I have selected right now - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rdTdhq Questions - Will I need to purchase any extra fan cables? An internal USB hub for everything? Any more Sata Cables? Again any suggestions to help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for all the help!
