If anyone's content is not appropriate for YouTube, it likely won't be appropriate for Floatplane. Floatplane may be better towards creators is certain respects, but that doesn't mean their standards for content is lower.

Due to the hate towards Razer on the forum, I thought that I'd pipe in and say that I'm currently using and loving my Razor Ornate Keyboard. A few months ago I retired my Razer Naga MMO mouse, but not after over 3 years of great use. Using a Corsair M65 Pro right now and I do miss the feel of the old mouse.

Basically it's initializes and test the hardware (CPU, RAM, GPU, I/O devices, etc.) before it proceeds to the OS. Back then the BIOS will also handle access to this hardware for the OS. Nowadays access to hardware is done directly by the OS.

All you really need to know is that it's where the system does a self check upon power on, and is where you can change system settings like CPU overclocking, memory XMP profiles, and sometimes fan profiles.

Call your ISP and ask to swap out your modem. It’s possible your modem was somewhat bricked when you had a power surge.

I’d also suggest asking them to do a line test to see if they can reach your modem.

    Ram, ram ram ram!
Ram is going to be critical to any video editing build. It's a shame that component is so inflated right now. 16GB is going to be a absolute minimum for editing.

Good news is that if the issue is the cards, GTX 1060 cards come with a 3 year warranty. With that out of the way, let's see if we can see if it's a software issue. First we want to completely get rid of any traces of Nvidia Drivers from your PC. To do this, don't uninstall it through the typical way you might normally do with other software. Instead use the Display Driver Uninstaller from Guru3d (http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html). Then after a restart install the latest Nvidia drivers. If you're still experiencing the issues, the next thing you might want to do a fresh install of Windows. If it's still not working, ask a friend if you could put your 1060 card in their PC to see if the performance still sucks. If it does, you've got a lemon.

Liquid_Z reacted to AskTJ in Windows not showing cpu overclock?
The BIOS doesn't change the clock speed. It stays like that.

To see your overclock in use, open Task Manager and under performance, look for CPU Usage.

The clock speed should show up there, but only of the temps are low enough for the overclock and the system is actually under load.

We've generally avoided them for the reasons outlined in this thread.

We have no plans to do sponsor spots or any coverage of "cheap key" sites at this time.

The Windows installs we do on our test benches have no key entered. It's an option when you install the software. You're allowed to use it for 30 days iirc according to the license, but we usually stretch that out a bit out of convenience. These are not production machines and Microsoft clearly understands you can't buy a new Windows license every time you swap a card on a test bench.

Liquid_Z got a reaction from Edwardk326 in Should tech influencers be sponsored by and support grey market sites?
Recently Science Studio has posted a video where in it he recommends to the general public to purchase Windows 10 keys from this "reputable" (his words) grey market website. This is a sponsored post where he does reveal early on that he is being paid by that company to produce this video.

Grey market keys historically can come from (but not restricted to) legitimate purchases made with stolen credit cards, fraudulently obtained education keys at a discount then violating the TOS when sold for resale, or volume licenses that are not intended for individual resale. These license keys sold via these channels carry the potential to be blacklisted at any time. The risk varies depending on how the specific key was obtained in the first place, something you have no way to determine. This video mentions none of this. (Polygon has a great a article this here: https://www.polygon.com/2015/2/9/8006693/the-truth-behind-those-mysteriously-cheap-gray-market-game-codes)

As a result, I wouldn't say that Science Studio has acted in a wholly ethical manner. There's no doubt that people will save $ on purchasing a grey market key (as comments in the video show), but should people In his position (or greater even) be recommending this dubious solution? A solution that ultimately rip off companies and game developers. Should tech influencers not hold themselves to a higher standard? Am I the only one that thinks that way?

Liquid_Z got a reaction from LIQUIDFOX00200 in Best Game Engine?? (Cryengine 5 Vs Unreal Engine)
What kind of game are you developing? If your doing mobile games, Unity is great for that. Hearthstone and Super Mario Run where games developed using that engine. If you're going to gritty realism, games like Escape from Tarkov are being developed using Unity as well.

But let's say you are gung ho about switching from Unity to Cry Engine or Unreal Engine. Well the biggest thing you need to know is that this will likely mean learning C++. Which isn't as accessible as C#. That said, I would like to point out two things. First, Unreal's Visual Scripting engine may help you out to compensate for that. This will help you develop games faster as you're learning the language. Secondly, Cry Engine can support C#, but not all plugins may support it. C++ will ultimately give you the most control over your game vs using C#. You should definitely take that into consideration before making a full switch.

But let's get back to Unity being used to develop great looking games. The upcoming game Book of the Dead, showcasing the great graphic capabilities of the Unity engine:
Here's a recent sizzle reel showing mainly PC/Console games made with unity:

And here's another one to showcase mainly mobile games:
Ultimately Unity can certainly be a great tool to create video games. If you're having trouble getting games to look super good, ask yourself, why is that? And do these other engines offer something that will help me make these game look better? Switching game engines might not be the answer you think you're looking for. ;-)

Here are my concerns with their website:
Content such as their entire About Us page has been plagiarized.
(see: https://herokingsltd.nethouse.me & https://www.amazon.com/sp?seller=A20GO3CSQDOKI7) They don't have mention at all of any kind of refund or DOA policies. They're brand new website that has been literally started in the last few months with established track record or proof that they are a legal registered business. No social media following and proof of actual customers getting product. For these reasons I would avoid using their website to place any orders. Just not worth the risk.

I have a 1 and a half year old and I've got some helpful tips for you.
Have as many of your cables on top of your desk as you possibly can. If you need to have a cable dangling or connect to a wall, use something like a floor mat (I'm using a cheap one from IKEA) and simply place it in between your desk and wall. The curvy nature is help keep child hands from pulling on anything.  And that's about it!

The GPU itself is fine for what the intended use for the card is. PC Mag says this about the card:
    Full review here: https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2385799,00.asp

One thing that might need to be clarified is whether the GPU you have was recently purchased new, or is used and with 8 years of use. There's a chance that perhaps you might need to get another one in the coming years. There's no firm number on how long a GPU can last. Some forum users here say to expect up to the warranty length of the card. Other say 5 years, some say 10 and a few say 15 years. There's really no way to know when that card will kick the bucket. Best you can do is cross your fingers.

    Hope that kind of helps!

The GTX 780 up to the original Titan can hold up at 1080p60, but probably not at Ultra settings.

OP: Hunt the used market extensively, you might be able to find a 780 or 780Ti
EDIT: A used GTX 970 should go for roughly your budget in an ideal market, looking for those wouldn't be a bad option either.

What's the board model? It's been a while since I've messed with anything by Supermicro, but I've seen nonstop beeps associated with a memory error, a VGA error (on a CPU/board with no integrated graphics) and a more general "your motherboard is dead" error.

Haha no problem, generally the number that fluctuates (since you mentioned hovers "around") is the wattage load the UPS is powering at that time.
Mine generally sits anywhere from like 180-360 depending on what I'm doing

For OP: if you do get a UPS, generally youll have battery powered outlets, and normal surge protected outlets. Typically you want your PC and 1 primary monitor (don't waste battery power on extra screens in the instance of a power outage), and if your modem/router is nearby and you do a lot of internet work, I keep those battery powered as well to give me time to save whatever I'm doing.

Things like speakers and extra peripherals are non-critical so don't waste battery juice on those.

Oh, maybe let's focus on maybe stuff to help with data retention and to prevent data lose. So if you don't have one yet, maybe an UPS battery backup, or a OWC Mercury Elite Pro drive enclosure to set up a raid or something. Especially if you're doing stuff for work/freelance/etc, I find this is a must.

Cosmic wise you could maybe spend something on something to hold your headphones, or maybe an adjustable arm for the mic?
