  1. May you enlighten me on this, are higher capacity solid state drives generally faster/last longer than smaller capacity ones? thank you
  2. I plan on getting a WD Green 120 GB SSD to just put Windows and a few programs (like Chrome) on. I just want to know how long an SSD will last if I only put OS and a few programs on it (I'll keep all my games on my HDD). Thanks!
  3. I just found out that the DRAM speed on the BIOS is set to 'Auto', changed it to 'DDR3-1300 MHz' and CPU Z now reports DRAM frequency to be 670.1 MHz. Thanks a lot!
  4. I checked with CPU Z and it says it is running in dual channel at 400 MHz with FSB:DRAM = 1:3(is this fine? if not, how do I change it?)
  5. I just got the RAM sticks, put the 8GB (1333 MHz) on the first channel, and the 2 4GB sticks (1600 MHz) on the second channel. Stable so far. I don't care much about RAM speeds since this is a budget build, but WILL THERE BE A POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGING ANYTHING with this config?
  6. will this configuration work at all? Mobo is an Asus P8Z77-V LX2
  7. Thank you for the replies guys! I guess I'd buy the bundle, sell the i3 as well as my AMD mobo and processor so I'll have enough to get that i5-2500k!
  8. My current budget gaming system rocks an AMD FX-4100 CPU and a GTX 750 ti. I'm planning on getting an i5-2500k in the future (trying my hands on OC'ing too). I've recently found a deal near my area for a bundled z77 Asus mobo and an intel i3-2100. My question is will the i3-2100 performance be parallel to the FX-4100 (possibly better)? I'm asking since I won't be getting the i5-2500k for a while if I purchase the z77 and i3 bundle. Thanks guys!
  9. So I've recently set-up my first build with an old FX-4100. Idle temps are around 43-47 deg. Celsius. When I run Aida64 for 10 mins, load temps go up as high as the mid 70s. AMD lists max temps for this processor on their site at 70.5. I am not overclocking the chip in any way. I am using a stock cooler. (Previously using a Deepcool gamma archer one which I replaced with the stock since the stock performs better). Is this normal and/or safe? I haven't had any shutdodwns so far despite going over the specified max temp. Should I replace the stock cooler (planning to get one of the Coolermaster Hyper variants), or should I try sticking a case exhaust fan first and see what happens. *Also, ambient temp here is around 33 deg. Celsius, possibly 36 at noon. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  10. I'd like to know what causes power supply failures (especially on generic power supplies) and under what circumstances will a burnt power supply damage other hardware? (e.g., if a psu was toasted due to overheating, will these potentially damage other hardware in my rig?)
  11. update: Got the 750 ti today. It was basically plug and play with the HP p6557c!
  12. Interesting. If it's true that the compaq dc5800 was released in 2008 and the pc 6557c was released in 2010, then I might still have some luck! By the way, what brand is your 750 ti? 'Cause I've read that some MSI ones have a switch to go from uefi to legacy BIOS support.
  13. I am buying a GTX 750 ti (Palit )for an old prebuilt desktop (HP Pavilion p6557c) which uses a Pegatron M2N86-LA motherboard. Upon doing further reading, I have read on other forums that the 750 ti can have compatibility issues with old HP OEM motherboards due to being limited only to Legacy BIOS. Since learning this, I have decided on obtaining a used Asrock N68-VS3-FX (socket AM3+) motherboard. My question is: 1. Will my GTX 750 ti work on the Asrock N68-VS3 FX? since I am not sure if it uses UEFI nor does it have a list of supported GPUs. here's a link to it's product page: http://www.asrock.com/mb/nvidia/n68-vs3 fx/ Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!
