  3. IMO integrated raid controllers are pretty good for this kind of application. But LSI raid controllers are pretty good aswell, and they are pretty cheap on ebay.

  5. Soldering a new jack is the only option. It will not degrade sound quality. If you are unsure about your soldering skill, take your headset to an audio repair place or smth.
  6. Proper 5.1 or those premade analog things? Imo just get a receiver from ebay. Like a pioneer VSX-D510 and get some used speakers.
  7. I wouldnt bother. Its pain in the ass to resolder them, especially if you dont have experience.
