#1) Welcome to the LTT forums.

#2) You don't need that much wattage. There is literally no point or benefit. The system you listed won't pull more than about 500w max (and that's being a bit generous), even with overclocking and all the other components you mentioned. 650w is what I would recommend. I would go with either the Seasonic Prime Ultra 650 or  BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 11 650w.

I feel like something like a Noctua NHD15 with it's fans removed would probably do you better. Or look at  say Paul Hardware's video on passively cooling a Ryzen 7, or google passive cpu coolers there's some out there... I remember seeing something like a Thermalright Macho Zero a while back?

well i got a bunch of them.
one pi zero controls the adressable leds strip around my desk
another zero functions as security camera at my front door
another zero controls my window blinds or whatever they are called with some steppers
one pi 3b+ sits behind my bathroom mirror and runs the smart mirror
and another b+ is under development right now to at some point give me android auto in my car
also i might get the pi 4 for its easier dual screen support and do dual transparent sidepanel displays at some point. maybe once they are out on the used market cause im not paying 55 bucks for a pi
oh yeah and i have another pi zero lying around with no specific use yet but im sure ill find something maybe a weather station or some lighting control for the balcony

Well, there are people who simply don't want to use NVIDIA products. Period. In that case, things are not so black and white anymore. I generally don't care, although I'm really sick and tired of shit NVIDIA control panel. Especially because I play older games a lot where enabling FSAA and AF means I spend quite some time in control panel. And it's driving me insane almost. Also NVIDIA's arrogance and smugness. It's why people generally like underdogs. They are not pretentious smug pricks. And NVIDIA is exactly that and has been for a while now.

All the important information everyone needs to know or has asked about Zen 2. More detailed information to come at later more specialized industry events.

Confirmation of 4 core CCXs per chiplet.

Ryzen and EPYC use different I/O dies, my speculation here is expect TR to use TSMC 14nm.

Edit: Correction to above, Ryzen 12nm GloFo I/O die and EPYC 2 14nm GloFo I/O die.

The second chiplet is only added when the extra cores are required, there is no balancing or spreading of cores across dies for core counts below that of a single chiplet. Active cores will likely be even across dies.

All roads lead to Rome the I/O die. Adjacent chiplets are not linked.

I'm kind surprised for such low wattage since my last cpu was amd phenom ii x4 965 which burned 2x 550 psu(without oc) and with 630w managed to be ok, and now i took intel and current build is 10x times more powerful and uses almost same psu wattage as my old one.

In the end why don't you go and buy the athlon 200GE which costs 50 bucks? It's a heck of a value for the price.

    Yes it is.
And do you know what protection is switching the PSU off??
And what is SCP? How was it implemented? What Protection does latch?
    THAT is what I meant...
No, it depends on the Wattage.

On a 500W you can probably omit it.
On a 1500W you must not.

Multi Rail = Breakers in your Box.
You usually don't need them either. You have them so that the cables in the wall don't catch fire.
And in some weird systems (*caugh* UK *caugh*) you have 32A lines/Breakers and need another one in the component.
    What is less dangerous?
    50A OCP or 150A OCP?
Especially when a shitty connection is enough to prevent "SCP" Detection...

As someone with some kind of electronics background that's pretty obvious to me. But also high current with low Voltage are even more dangerous than the same current with higher voltages because the Resistance of the Cable overall is far more with 12V than in 230VAC as we are talking about some milliohm that are needed for a short to be detected...

I find it amusing that we are getting to a point where people are starting to debate the virtues of improvements so small that you need measurement software/test gear to see it.    The difference between a 400W system and a 500W system only becomes big enough if you calculate the savings over a year,  the extra 5-10% you get in raw processing power is only measurable between benchmarks.

Some times I feel like just saying buy the second best CPU turn the damn FPS counter off and enjoy the game with some extra cash in your pocket.

But that's exactly how it's going to go: you either tolerate (you need not like it) the price you pay for the computing performance provided and make your purchase, or you hold onto your money. No amount of sugar and fluff will change the base nature of the transaction.

Don't replace your 2070. The only upgrade for GPU that would make sense is a 2080ti, which...doesn't make sense because it costs an arm and a leg. Just keep your 2070, save some money and just get a cpu and motherboard.

Or do you mean that you are planning on buying the 2070? If you haven't actually bought it yet (Hard to tell what you meant) then go for the new Navi if it's a good price. Otherwise, vega 56 or rtx 2060 are good options. Don't buy the 2070 if you haven't got one yet. It's a horrible value card, especially at 530 euros.

If you do stuff other than gaming then maybe the 12 core would make sense. If not, then go for the 3700x and a good x570 motherboard. Thankfully you won't see any bad x570 boards because they've gone overkill on even the lesser boards from what we've seen.

You don't need to run it at 5GHz if 4.6GHz gives same results thanks to IPC increase. It seems AthlonXP history is repeating where clock isn't everything. Intel was boosting clocks to 3.2GHz back in the day and AthlonXP processors had only 2333MHz (Athlon XP 3200+, Barton core) clock and could easily rival 3200MHz Pentium 4's. Yet people were again only looking at the clock. AMD made the + scale to somewhat counter that. And I can tell you it wasn't a lie. I had the AXP 2400+ that put 2400MHz Pentiums to shame. At only 2000MHz! And with overclocking I got it up to 3200+ performance.

So, if Ryzen 9 3900X 4.6GHz delivers same performance as Intel's CPU at 5GHz, then this is exactly that. 4.6GHz to 5GHz is around 8% clock difference (I doubt it's also 8% performance increase). AMD is claiming up to 15% IPC boost over Zen+. And knowing Zen+ (Ryzen 7 2700X) was already on par with Intel in IPC department, AMD actually being faster than Intel at lower clock isn't that suprising because that's what IPC is. More work done at same or lower clock. Or in worst case scenario, is at least the same.

I too was hoping for 5GHz Ryzens, but seeing how they make up the clock difference with IPC, it's looking really interesting.
