Try push the bearing down on the fans - case fans and all. Case fans on an nzxt case are not that good. Try using an overclocking programme to max speed the cpu fan and gpu fan and then put the gpu fan on idle (off) ... Then try flip over the power supply and make sure no cables and touching any fans etc.If that does not work. Carefully remove the grill from the power supply and with your finger give the fan a spin and see if you can see any contact with metal or cable- then try to gently sway the case from side to side and try then. Also please tell me if it starts instantly or when the computer has warmed up ( may be making this sound due to expanding of metal once pc has warmed up. Finally see if the GPU is touching anything e.g. a wireless network card. If you could please a take a couple pictures of the inside of your computer... Otherwise seek warranty advice. If I can think of more solutions I will tell you.

The fan has bearings in side of it. Like small round metal bb's. If one has a defect in the surface that creates a rough spot, it could be getting caught while the fan is being spun, which would cause the fan to potentially seize and then force its way through the friction, causing the bearing to rub and tumble and make all sorts of horrible sounds.

before you do anything the the PSU reseed your RAM and graphics card. if that doesn't help then it must be the power supply.

no OS is the best. They ass suck in there own special way. You must decide which one sucks less for your use. Figure out what you will be doing most on your PC and then pick which OS performs best in that act.

I'd go for it. As long as you don't snap anything, you should be good. I'd take the chance to clean it out while you've got it open as well.

Sorry to say that you did not pick a great time to build a PC in that price bracket. The GPU market has been completely messed up for high end graphics cards because of the cripto currency mining craze. that being said, you should be able to find good deals on other components. I would recommend going with a ryzen 7 1700 based system and buying a used GPU sourced from your local craigslist or ebay. You would want to look for a 980 or 980ti most likely. good luck.

Vargi reacted to TRINHbot1101001 in Worth fixing this laptop?
If everything else in the laptop is working fine, fixing it yourself isn't a bad idea, and it shouldn't be too hard. I found the replacement heatsink and fan for your laptop's model on eBay for under $30, apparently the fan and heatsink are one piece. But you can try contacting Lenovo to see about replacement parts, although I'm not sure of their policies.
