I'm currently running FreeNAS 11 and it works very well in my experience. I don't do anything particularly exciting with my NAS though. -

If there was actually some kind of burning in the HDD them it wouldn't be too surprising if your data was gone. But you could try data recovery services, there are some free ones. -
Apparently a PS3 will work without a Blu Ray drive, I don't currently have a console to test with but I see no reason why it wouldn't.

Yes, but Threadripper is a bit much. If you want to stay AMD then Ryzen 7 is a better choice. -
The OP didn't mention if the card was idle or under load.

60℃ is not hot, as I previously mentioned the target temperature is 80℃.

The target load temperature for the RX 480 is 80℃ and the maximum safe temperature is 90℃. Perhaps you can make the card run at 80℃ at a lower fan speed, I think Afterburner allows you to manually change fan speed.

I don't believe that pushing down the notches will damage it, unless you have a large amount of space under your motherboard (long standoffs if such a thing exists) then it should be fine.
