  1. Does anyone know what happened or how to fix this? I tried on different storage drive (my ssd, etc) and it worked fine, but suddenly stopped working in this specific HDD for some reason. I do already have it Run as Administrator, so not sure what happened.
  2. First time I'm using it, so I have no idea where to look for what. I already have my Ext. HDD formatted as NTFS, so can't really reformat and put files back in (no space on mac) The macbook is using macOS Sierra v10.12.6 , not sure about model and year of production.
  3. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Coding/programming/workstation Parts: Mobo - Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3 CPU - Ryzen 7 3700X + stock fan GPU - RX 580 8GB RAM/memory - (2x16GB) G.Skill Flare X DDR4-3200MHz 32GB F4-3200C16D-32GFX Gray Storage - Toshiba 1TB HDD, Kingston A2000 M.2 NvME 500GB SSD PSU - Cooler Master 80+ Gold MWE 650w Full Modular Just looking for suggestions, they're quite old so I'm not sure how much I can get out of this. My apologies if this isn't allowed or is in the wrong forum.
  4. Warranty long gone, was only a year. Different cable yep (adapter = cable) - was even different Ampere (same voltage). Repair huh.. Well, I'll consider it I guess.
  5. Even though it was still flickering with no input? I can still give it a try, but yeah just wondering. I don't have iGPU btw, Ryzen w/o iGPU. GPU is RX 580.
  6. Ah dang, alright. Too bad, wasn't too keen on getting used to mac as I won't have that much time on it.
  7. I'm more used to windows, so I was considering installing Windows on a Macbook I got (its for travel). Its Macbook Air (mid 2012) with 4GB RAM and 240GB SSD
  8. This has been happening for a long time, and I replaced the adapter to a higher Ampere (but same voltage), hoping that was the problem. I don't think its GPU since when I unplug it from my PC, it still flickers (no video of it). Is this likely just hardware failure? If I recall correctly, it's about 3-4 years since I bought it. Video below (careful - it flashes) Monitor is LG22MK600 flicker.mp4
  9. Note: I don't have the BSOD dump (I can't find it, theres no /Minidump folder nor memory.dmp file) The BSOD lasts for less than a second and restarts right away (after the windows loading screen). It's on windows 7. What I've tried: -Swapping HDD (I had 2 for said laptop, both wouldn't let me in) -Erasing the gold parts with rubber and reseating RAM I asked a repair shop and they mentioned about formatting... the Windows (which I doubt it is that, since 2 HDDs didn't work). Is there anything I can try to possibly fix this on my own? I can try formatting but rather not do that (as the 2 HDD were separated as work and private HDD). The laptop model is: Acer Aspire E1-471
  10. You can say I'm paranoid. Probably a bit too much. This is because I want to bring my PC's data over.
  11. It's gonna be for big files (archived). Expecting 100+ GB of files. Thanks for the help!
  12. I admit having files "from the seas" and passwords saved locally that I plan to bring into Australia, but not sure if there's a good way to go around it. Any suggestions or advice is fine, albeit download is on my lowest priority (since uploading and redownloading will take a really long time, as I heard Australia internet is quite slow / bad + my net is slow on upload, too).
  13. Aren't allowed to go thru the airport security. Well yes, I do save them in plaintext - if it works, it works. I just can't get myself to memorize every single password I use. Password saver won't be useful if I can't even open the most outside layer anyway (e.g. email)
  14. Making as if my archives / split files are corrupt so they aren't accessible is the goal, because I heard encrypted files aren't allowed. I save my passwords on local file and planning to go to Australia, which I heard the airport security have permission to go through the passenger's storage device(s). I plan to bring my files in the form of SSD/Hard drive (which will be from my PC I'm leaving in my country).
  15. I just tested it and it does work, albeit not all the files (like with using winrar repair archive). Unless, its a single file I assume? Was testing multiple files. Forgot to include "excluding winrar/7z/winzip" in the title, since I do know they work, just not with how I plan to split them.
  16. And another question while I'm at it: I plan to split an archive (say its 1GB of files, not a single one). If I split it into like 1000 MB + 24 MB and delete/backup the 24 MB, will the 1000 MB still be extractable/viewable without the remaining 24 MB? Thanks!
  17. My dying HDD hardlocked recently and it.. corrupted alot of things on my PC (still usable, but alot of "preferences" and "settings" were wiped from the corruption). Then I forgot I never made a backup, so that's that. Preferably not Windows' File versioning / backup as I don't see it being that reliable. (which I turned off long ago) I use Windows 10. Use case in mind: specific folders in AppData

  19. I'm not sure how to read the SMART. I bought this 2nd hand, so any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks
  20. Does "Western Digital Dashboard" (the newer one) have the tester as well? The page did say "Data Lifeguard Diagnostic" is deprecated now (though I guess 2020 isn't that old, yet).
  21. Oh, WD got a program for that? Perfect then. It just happens to be WD too. I'm really interested in this since this was what I got from his HDD sentinel (not yet bought) Though I have no idea why the total start/stop count is only 1 (despite that power on time).
  22. I regretted my purchase over from a shop in my city (got SMR and it died faster than my CMRs... Didn't know about it, seagate as usual) Would like to know if there are things I can test for stress test.
  23. https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Plus-Internal-Drive/dp/B0BDXSK2K7 It did say CMR but I can't seem to find it on WD's website.
